While North York Astros extended their unbeaten run to eight games with a 1-1 tie, two games in the CSL First Division Saturday night.

Pero Menalo opened the scoring at 21 minutes for Toronto Croatia at Kalar Sports Park in Niagara Falls, Ivan Cutura made it 2-0 at 24 minutes and defender Ainsley Deer increased the lead to 3-0 at the 33rd minute mark.

Menalo scored his second goal to increase the lead to 4-0 at 39 minutes, the score at half-time.

Defender Halburto Harris scored for the visitors just after the interval at 47 minutes and Ante Zivkovic found the net past Niagara goalkeeper Matthew Greco to round the scoring to 6-0 at 80 minutes, the score at the final whistle.

Toronto Croatia improve to 7-3-2WLT for 23 points, now six points behind league-leading York Region Shooters to be second in the standings, while Niagara United are at 2-8-2 for eight points at the foot of the table.

Following a hard-played scoreless first half at Lamport Stadium in Toronto, North York Astros went ahead 1-0 at 70 minutes when Jose Melo struck from the penalty spot at the 70th minute mark, the score at the break. It was the midfielder’s ninth goal of the season.

Serbian White Eagles equalized at 90 minutes, a well-taken header by defender Braca Vukomanovic from a corner kick taken by forward Milos Scepanovic and it was 1-1 at the final whistle.

Serbian White Eagles ended the game with nine men following the ejection of forward Luka Maric at 76 minutes and defender Mirko Medic was shown the red card in added time.

The tie kept the Astros’ unbeaten streak intact and now extended to eight games with a 5-3-4 record for 19 points in third position in the standings, while Serbian Eagles are at 4-4-3 for 15 points in seventh position in the standings.

There was one game in the CSL Second Division Saturday when Niagara United B defeated Toronto Croatia B, 7-2.
