Toronto Atomic FC jumped to the top of the CSL First Division with a 2-0 defeat of Scarborough SC, while Hamilton City scored a 3-2 home victory over Brantford Galaxy, two games in the CSL Saturday night.
Toronto Atomic took the lead against Scarborough at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke when forward Dario Brezak drove the ball from 10 yards over the right shoulder of Scarborough goalkeeper Imad Hakura at the 40 minute mark. It was 1-0 at the interval.
Atomic increased the lead to 2-0 at 64 minutes when forward Ali Shamsali scored from the penalty spot after referee Zoltan Jakab pointed to the spot following an infringement in the box.
The goal was followed by another penalty when Scarborough midfielder Alon Badat was tripped inside the 18 yard line, but Scarborough’s Aleksander Stojiljkovic drove the ball over the bar.
Toronto Atomic moved to the top of the First Division standings as a result of the win which improved the team’s record to 3-1-2 WLT for 11 points, while Scarborough are in fifth position with a 2-2-0 record for six points.
Forward Zdenko Jurcevic opened the scoring for Hamilton at the Cardinal Newman ground, the goal coming at the 13 minute mark, and Galaxy’s Bojan Stepanovic found the net past Hamilton goalkeeper Adrian Becic 10 minutes later to tie the game 1-1. It was 1-1 at the break.
Igor Kmar put Hamilton into the lead at 48 minutes when the ball deflected off a Brantford defender for a 2-1 score for the home side, and forward Haris Redzepi struck for Brantford at 66 minutes to tie the game 2-2.
Kmar scored the winner for Hamilton, finding the net for his second goal past Galaxy goalkeeper Luka Besenic at 77 minutes, a 3-2 final score.
It was Hamilton City’s third win of the season for a 3-3-0 record for nine points, while Brantford Galaxy are at 2-3-1 for seven points.
There is a change in the kickoff for the next Hamilton City home game against York Region Shooters at the Cardinal Newman ground on Saturday July 2, now a 6 pm kickoff instead of the previously scheduled 8 pm start.
