CROATIA, SHOOTERS KEEP PACE AT THE TOP WHILE SERBIAN EAGLES AND BRANTFORD GALAXY ALSO WIN SUNDAY

Toronto Croatia and York Region Shooters kept up the pressure at the top of the First Division table with decisive victories, while Serbian White Eagles and Brantford Galaxy also recorded wins in the CSL Sunday to improve their mid-table positions while bidding for playoff berths.

Toronto Croatia dominated the game against Windsor Stars at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke, scoring five unanswered goals for the 5-0 win.

Hayden Fitzwilliams led the way with a goal at 24 minutes when he broke through with a low shot past Windsor goalkeeper Anthony Santilli from 12 yards and it was 1-0 at half-time.

Forward Tihomir Maletic scored right after the break and struck a second at 55 minutes to make it 3-0, his eighth and ninth goals of the season.

Toronto Croatia, is in second position in the standings, move within four points of league-leading SC Toronto, both teams having played 18 games.

Midfielder Dino Gardener opened the scoring for York Region Shooters against St. Catharines Wolves at the St. Joan of Arc ground in Maple, scoring with a drive from 16 yards at 22 minutes and Jason De Thomasis made it 2-0 at the 40th minute mark, the score at the break.

York Region Shooters are involved in a 3-way tie with Capital City FC and Montreal Impact Academy for third position in the First Division standings, all with 35 points as a result of Sunday’s win.

Serbian White Eagles visited Esther Shiner Stadium in North York for the game with the Astros and promptly took the lead after 15 minutes when midfielder Milos Scepanovic scored from the penalty spot following a tripping incident called by referee Manuel Orellano. It was 1-0 at the interval.

Astros’ forward Nordo Gooden equalized 1-1 at 50 minutes, then Serbian Eagles scored three goals, by defender Ricardo Munguia at 62 minutes, midfielder Kirie Dimitrov at 73 minutes and a second goal by Scepanovic at 81 minutes for a 4-1 final score.

Serbian White Eagles are in seventh position with 30 points following the win.

A goal at 37 minutes was enough to give Brantford Galaxy a victory and much needed three points in the game against London City at Lions Park in Brantford.

The current CSL champions are just off the pace in their attempt to secure one of eight berths for the first round of the playoffs.

The goal to give Brantford the 1-0 win was started by Nenad Begovic who intercepted a London City pass in midfield to set-up forward Mark Reilly – he found the net from five yards.
