With two of the top four teams seeing action this weekend, Kingston FC (at home to SC Waterloo) and York Region Shooters (visiting Windsor Stars), both have an opportunity if they achieve a victory on Sunday to move ahead of Toronto Croatia in the CSL First Division standings to continue a week by week ever changing race for the league title.
Toronto Croatia are without a game due to their home ground of Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke still under repair following the severe flooding of July 8 and the home game against Brampton City Utd scheduled for Sunday, has been postponed.
The ground closure has also affected the Serbian White Eagles vs Burlington SC encounter previously set for Friday night, this game has also been called off and is to be played late in the season.
For the eight teams underneath the runaway top four it may develop into a fight for one of the four remaining playoff berths from a total of eight if the present trend continues, and while some clubs are faltering at this stage of the season, Astros Vasas FC is a club on the improve. They will have an opportunity to be seen this weekend by the visiting Hungarian Secretary of State for Sport in that eastern European country, Lajos Kü , who will be present at Sunday’s game for a ceremonial kickoff.
Lajos Kü played for Videoton, Ferencvárosi TC, Club Brugge K.V. and SC Eisenstadt. He played for Brugge KV against Liverpool in the European Cup Final of 1978, but is well-known also for gaining a silver medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics and being a midfielder for Hungary in UEFA Euro 1972.
