LONDON CITY UPSET BURLINGTON 2-1, Waterloo, Toronto Croatia tie 2-2 Sunday

Toronto Croatia 2014 1SC Waterloo and Toronto Croatia fought to a 2-2 tie, while London City upset Burlington SC 2-1, two games in the CSL First Division Sunday night.

Waterloo opened the scoring at the Warrior Field in Waterloo after just five minutes when forward Drazen Vukovic took a pass from Mirza Colic to slot the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.

Toronto Croatia tied the score 1-1 at 43 minutes on a penalty kick taken by defender Josip Keran following a foul in the box by Waterloo’s Ranko Golijanin, and just before half-time Vukovic scored his second after taking a pass to the right of goal to score with a low drive into the bottom right corner. It was Waterloo 2, Toronto Croatia 1 at the break and the goals were the 8 goal and 9 goal of the season for Vukovic.

Sean Brown tied the game for Toronto Croatia at the 80 minute mark and it was 2-2 at the final whistle.

Toronto Croatia improve to a 5-3-2 WLT record for 17 points to move into second position in the standings, while Waterloo are at 3-5-4 for 13 points and seventh in the standings.

Following a scoreless first half at the Nelson Stadium in Burlington, London City took lead at 67 minutes, a goal by Marin Vucemilovic Grgic and the prolific forward scored again at 79 minutes, his 11 goal and 12 goal of the season for a 2-0 London City lead.

Nenad Nikolic reduced the lead for the home side at 88 minutes, driving the ball from just inside the box to find the net to the right and it was 2-1 for London City, a score that held to the end.

Burlington drop to third position in the standings with a 5-4-1 record for 16 points, while London City improve to 3-7-1 for 10 points in ninth position.

There was one game played in the CSL Second Division Sunday, Milton FC defeating Serbian White Eagles B, 8-0, and in upcoming games there will be a rare game in the CSL First Division Tuesday night when North York Astros travel to Burlington for a 9 pm kickoff at Nelson Stadium.
