Astros' 'keeper Arthur Zaslavski: strong game despite 2-0 loss
A goal in each half gave St. Catharines Wolves a 2-0 victory over North York Astros in the home opener at Club Roma, the only game in the Canadian Soccer League Wednesday night.Following a number of end-to-end exchanges, St. Catharines went ahead at 11 minutes from an own goal - a ball that entered the net from an Astros defender out of reach of North York goalkeeper Arthur Zaslavski.
North York pressed for an equalizer but the half ended 1-0 and it was St. Catharines who eventually scored following the interval to make it 2-0 at the 59th minute mark, a goal by midfielder Joe Delpriore.
It was the Niagara Peninsula team’s first win of the season following a scoreless tie against Portugal on May 30 and it was the first game for the Astros following a postponed opener at London on May 29.
North York will take on TFC Academy at Esther Shiner this coming Saturday, June 6 at 3 pm, while St. Catharines Wolves visit London for a game with the City at Cove Road on June 12, an 8.30 pm kickoff.
