ALL THE WEEKEND DETAILS --- Astros and Croatia record Sunday wins, Brampton's Nascimento strikes four in two games for brilliant individual effort.

2008-06-19

A well-struck goal by North York Astros' forward Go Nagaoka at the 34th minute was enough to give his team a 1-0 victory over the hapless London City at Esther Shiner Stadium on Sunday afternoon and a few hours later the visiting Toronto Croatia scored twice to overcome a 1-0 deficit to defeat St. Catharines Wolves at Club Roma in St. Catharines. The most impressive individual effort over the weekend goes to Brampton Lions’ striker Daniel Nascimento who led his team with three goals in a 7-0 emphatic win over London City at the Cove Road ground on Friday night and struck his side's equalizer in a 1-1 tie with Windsor Border Stars on Saturday. Also on Saturday, Trois-Rivieres Attak closed the gap at the top of the National League standings with a 2-0 victory over TFC Academy and in Friday's games, Serbian White Eagles took control over St. Catharines Wolves, winning 4-0 at Centennial Stadium, while at Lamport Stadium in the city’s west end, Portugal FC were held to a 1-1 tie by visiting Toronto Croatia.

Go Nagaoaka's goal, a strike just inside the penalty box, gave the Astros their third win of the season for a 3-3-1WLT record for 10 points. London remain without a point in seven games.

At Club Roma the Wolves' Fillip Hull opened the scoring at 18 minutes for the home side, but Hayden Fitzwilliams tied 1-1 for Toronto Croatia at the 33rd minute mark. Croatia defender Mario Kulis scored the winner at 80 minutes, a 2-1 final score for a 4-1-2 and 14 points in the International Division for Croatia

Border Stars' striker Aaaron Byrd opened the scoring at 23 minutes at Mic Mac Park in Windsor on Saturday, for a 1-0 lead at the interval, but Nascimento tied the game five minutes after the restart for Brampton Lions and the score held 1-1 to the final whistle. Nascimento now has nine goals in the season.

Also in Saturday's game, Nicolas Lesage opened the scoring at 35 minutes for Trois-Rivieres Attak with TFC Academy and Pierre Rudolph Mayard made it 2-0 at 82 minutes for the 2-0 final score.

Brampton's Nascimento scored the opening two goals at 8 and 18 minutes in Friday's game with London City and he scored a third for his hat-trick at the 44th minute mark.

Daniel Cameira struck Brampton’s third goal at 36 minutes, Andrew Silva hit the fourth at 41 minutes, Alex Arbello got the fifth and following Nacsimento’s third goal, Miles O’Connor finished off the scoring when he found the net five minutes after the interval, a 7-0 final score.

Serbian White Eagles gradually took control in the game against St. Catharines at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke on Friday and it all started with an opening goal at three minutes, scored by Dragan Radovic from the penalty spot. Wolves’ midfielder Arnaldo Magnotta conceded the penalty when he handled the ball going down to cut off a low pass.

Sasa Viciknez struck the second for the home side, a spectacular drive that struck underneath the cross bar before entering the net with St. Catharines goalkeeper Claudio Perri well beaten at the 14th minute mark,  Nikola Budalic scored Serbia’s third at 55 minutes and Radovic scored his second and Serbia's fourth at of the game at the 88th minute mark, a 4-0 final score.

Samuel Afriyie opened the scoring for Portugal FC at 61 minutes following a hard-fought, scoreless first half , also on Friday, at Lamport Stadium. Hugo Herrera tied the game for Toronto Croatia at 66 minutes for the 1-1 final score.
