Aleksander Stojiljkovic, who scored a hat-trick for Scarborough SC in the 3-3 tie with Royal Toronto FC on August 27, and struck four goals in the 7-0 defeat of Milton SC at Birchmount Stadium on September 2, hit yet another four over the weekend when Scarborough defeated Brantford Galaxy 5-0 on Friday and went on to beat SC Waterloo by a score of 3-0 on Sunday evening.
A third game scheduled for the closing weekend of the CSL regular season, Milton SC vs. Brantford Galaxy, was postponed.
The flurry of goals in the season’s closing stages leading to the playoffs lifted Stojilijkovic’s season tally to 17 to capture the First Division leading goalscorer title. The prolific Stojilijkovic beat out Ivliev Sergii of Vorkuta FC who led the scoring during most of the second half of the campaign, ending the regular season with 12.
Stojiljkovic scored three goals (60, 71 and 78 minutes) in the second half of Friday’s game against the Galaxy after Scarborough led 1-0 at halftime on a goal at 15 minutes by Marc Jankovic, and a goal at 48 minutes by Kiril Dimitrov.
Dimitrov opened the scoring for Scarborough at 23 minutes in Sunday’s game against SC Waterloo and Stojiljkovic made it 2-0 at 35 minutes, the score at the interval. Dimitrov added second goal at 70 minutes for a 3-0 score at the final whistle.
Scarborough SC ended the season in fourth position in the standings with a 7-4-3 WLT record for 24 points while SC Waterloo completed its season in 7th position with a 1-8-5 record for eight points.
Playoff games will be played during the second half of September with a schedule to be announced midweek. The Championship Final in both divisions to be played at the end of September.
