The top three clubs continue to dominate the CSL First Division with victories over the weekend, Serbian White Eagles the most impressive with an 8-1 home win over Milton SC, York Region Shooters defeated Royal Toronto 5-0 and FC Vorkuta kept pace with a narrow 1-0 victory over Scarborough SC. Brantford Galaxy kept in touch with a 2-1 win over SC Waterloo.
Branislav Vukomanovic struck three goals for Serbian White Eagles in the 8-1 dominance of Milton in the game at Centennial Stadium Friday night to lift the 35 year old Serb defender’s season tally to six. Serbian Eagles remain unbeaten with a 8-0-4 WLT record for 28 points to lead the top division by a single point over York Region Shooters.
York Region’s win over Royal Toronto was never in doubt at the St. Joan of Arc stadium at Maple just north of Toronto on Friday night, leading 2-0 at half-time on goals by midfielder Richard Edwards at just 4 minutes into the game and Kevin Bryan at the 27th minute mark. But it was U.S.-born midfielder Evan Beutler who sealed the game with a natural hat-trick in the second half at 52, 64 and 87 minutes for a season total to date of seven.
The Shooters’ record is 8-2-3 for 27 points on the season for second place in the standings.
Denys Diachenko scored the lone goal at 65 minutes for FC Vorkuta in a tough encounter over Scarborough at Esther Shiner Stadium Saturday, a victory for the expansion team that improved its season record to 7-1-2 for 23 points and games in hand over both Serbian White Eagles and York Region.
Brantford Galaxy have a 5-6-0 record for 15 points following their 2-1 victory over SC Waterloo at Lions Park in Brantford Saturday and the Galaxy also has games in hand over Serbian Eagles and York Region Shooters.
There was one CSL Second Division game over the weekend, Royal Toronto FC B defeating Serbian White Eagles B by a 6-1 score at the the Lamoreaux Sports Complex on Saturday night.
There are two mid-week games scheduled in the CSL First Division on Wednesday, August 23 when Royal Toronto FC meet FC Vorkuta at the OSA Soccer Centre at 8.30 pm and Milton SC are at home in the Milton Community Centre to Scarborough SC, a 9 pm kickoff. A CSL Second Division game has also been scheduled for Wednesday night when SC Waterloo B hosts Ukraine United B at 8 pm at Woodside Park.
