Top of the table, unbeaten Serbian White Eagles won their seventh game of the season with a 5-0 victory over Royal Toronto FC, while York Region Shooters moved into second position in the standings by inflicting a first defeat of the season on expansion team FC Vorkuta.
In other weekend games in the Canadian Soccer League First Division, Milton SC played twice, losing 7-1 to Royal Toronto FC on Friday night, before picking up a first victory of the current campaign, a come-from-behind 4-3 result over SC Waterloo on Sunday.
There was one other games scheduled in the CSL First Division, the Scarborough SC vs. Brantford Galaxy encounter set for Birchmount Stadium Sunday night was delayed, then postponed due to difficulties by the visiting team en route to the stadium.
Following a scoreless first half at Esther Shiner Stadium Saturday, York Region Shooters took the lead when Hassan Abdulmumini drove the ball from 10 yards inside the left post out of reach of Vorkuta goalkeeper Oleksander Musiienko. The opening goal came at the 77 minute mark and midfielder Doryan Botelho made it 2-0 at 85 minutes, a long shot from outside the box for a 2-0 result at the final whistle.
Forward Ivan Nikolic struck two goals, at 26 and 71 minutes for Serbian White Eagles in the 5-0 win over Royal Toronto at Birchmount Stadium Sunday. Djordjije Jocic (55 min.), Branislav Vukomanovic (57 min.) and Milos Ljubenovic (80 min.) also scored.
Luka Majstorovic scored a hat-trick for Royal Toronto FC to lead his side to the 7-1 trouncing of Milton SC at the Milton Community Park on Friday night, while in the second Milton game of the weekend played on Sunday, Milton’s Scott Damion Tristan also hit three goals, including the winner at 88 minutes to lift Milton from a 3-1 deficit at half time to a 4-3 victory.
There were two games in the CSL Second Division over the weekend, Ukraine United B defeating Serbian White Eagles B 6-1 at Centennial Stadium Friday night and Brantford Galaxy B winning 2-1 over SC Waterloo B at Lions Park on Saturday.
