York Region Shooters increased their lead at the top of the CSL First Division with a 2-1 victory over Serbian White Eagles, Milton SC upset Scarborough 2-1 and FC Ukraine United fought to a 3-3 tie with Toronto Atomic, three games in the CSL Sunday night.
Striker Richard West scored his ninth goal of the season to give York Region Shooters a 1-0 lead after nine minutes of play in the game with Serbian White Eagles at the St. Joan of Arc ground in Maple, it was 1-0 at the halftime whistle.
An own goal by Serbian Eagles’ Miroslav Jovanovic gave the home side a 2-0 lead at 49 minutes and at the 70th minute mark recently signed Goran Svonja found the net past York Region goalkeeper Adrian Ibanez, to cut the lead to 2-1. The score remained at 2-1 to the end, giving York Region an even more commanding lead at the top of the CSL First Division.
York Region improve to a 12-2-2 record for 38 points with a lead of 14 points over second place Scarborough, while Serbian White Eagles are at 7-7-2 for 23 points, tied for third position with Toronto Atomic.
Midfielder Kostiantyn Derevlov opened the scoring for FC Ukraine United for a 1-0 lead at 26 minutes at the St. Joan of Arc ground and it was 1-0 at the break.
Toronto Atomic tied the game 1-1 with a goal by Johnson Luyiga who beat Ukraine United goalkeeper Nazar Lytvyn at the 49th minute mark.
Sergii Lvliev put Ukraine United into a 2-1 lead at 61 minutes and one minute later Luyiga struck his second goal for Atomic to tie the game 2-2.
Toronto Atomic took a 3-2 lead at 85 minutes, a goal by Roman Sakhno and at 88 minutes Ukraine United midfielder Vitaliy Dnistryan found the top corner of the net with a drive from 7 yards past Atomic goalkeeper Ihor Vitiv to salvage a tie for the home side and it was 3-3 at the final whistle.
Ukraine United now have a 5-5-4 WLT record for 19 points in 6th position in the standings, while Toronto Atomic have an improved 6-6-5 record for 23 points in fourth position.
Milton SC were up 2-0 in the first 15 minutes of play in the game with Scarborough SC at Birchmount Stadium, the opening goal by midfielder Adnan Smajic and Harris Fazlagic scored the second 11 minutes later. It was 2-0 at the interval.
Scarborough midfielder Tihomir Kosturkov reduced the lead to 2-1, the score at the final whistle.
Scarborough remain in second spot in the standings with a 7-6-3 record for 24 points, while Milton improve to 4-9-2 for 14 points in 7th position in the table.
There was one game in the CSL Second Division Sunday night when Serbian White Eagles B defeated York Region Shooters B 1-0, and one other game scheduled, SC Waterloo vs Toronto Atomic B clash was postponed and will be rescheduled.
