TWO GOALS BY JAVIER PEREZ LEADS CSL VETERANS TO 6-2 VICTORY
The CSL Veteran All Stars took a 3-0 lead at half-time and went on to a 6-2 victory over visiting Brazilian side Anarqui Futebol & Amigos at the St. Joan of Arc Stadium at Maple, just north of Toronto Tuesday.
It was the opener of four exhibition games being played in a North American tour by the team of veteran players from Sao Paulo, to be followed by games in Montreal and Quebec City, then Orlando, Florida.
The Anarqui Futebol & Amigos team has toured each of the last 11 years, mostly in Europe and the African continent. It’s the team’s first visit to North America.
The CSL Veteran All Stars took an early 3-minute lead on the first of two goals by Javier Perez who found the net from 6 yards past Brazilian goalkeeper Ronaldo Paiva and seven minutes later Lyubomyr Halchuck, a veteran with the FC Vorkuta side, made it 2-0.
Courtney Welsh struck for the Canadian team at 32 minutes and it was 3-0 at the break.
Perez scored his second for the CSL Veteran All Stars to increase the lead to 4-0 at 49 minutes, Leo Lopez headed in from a right wing cross to increase the lead to 5-0 and Franco LoFranco found the net at 70 minutes for a 6-0 lead.
Anarqui Futebol & Amigos cut the lead to 6-1 with a goal by Silvio Cesar who took a pass from Francisco Coelho at 72 minutes and at 77 minutes Antonio Neto beat Canadian goalkeeper Diego Quiroga for Brazilian veterans’ second goal, a 6-2 score which held to the final whistle.
