Brantford Galaxy jumped into third position in the CSL First Division standings with a 2-0 victory over Toronto Atomic, while York Region Shooters continued their recovery with a 2-1 win over Brampton City Utd. A third game scheduled in the CSL on Sunday, London City vs Toronto Croatia, was postponed in London due to a waterlogged pitch following a heavy thunderstorm.
York Region Shooters took an early lead against Brampton City Utd at the St. Joan of Arc ground in Maple after 7 minutes of play on a goal by defender Nicola Di Sanza.
Brampton tied the score 1-1 with a goal by Krzysztof Tierzchala at the 29 minute mark and it was 1-1 at half-time.
York Region Shooters’ defender Mehdi Baratimahyar was ejected on receiving a second yellow at 83 minutes and five minutes later York Region’s Shezan Singh scored the winner for the 2-1 final score.
York Region Shooters, the current CSL champions recover from an early season let-down to now improve to a 4-5-0 record for 12 points, while Brampton City Utd are at 3-5-2 for 11 points.
Zdenko Jurcevic scored twice for Brantford Galaxy in the 2-0 victory over Toronto Atomic to continue a scoring pace that keeps the 29 year old prolific striker on top of the CSL goalscoring with 13 goals so far in the 2015 campaign.
It was a well-played scoreless first half at Lions Park in Brantford, following which Jurcevic struck at 65 minutes, then again at 83 minutes with a header from a corner kick past Toronto Atomic goalkeeper Ihor Vitiv.
The win moved Brantford Galaxy into third position in the standings with a 6-5-0 WLT record for 18 points, while Toronto Atomic are at 5-5-2 in fourth position with 17 points.
There was one other game scheduled for Sunday’s First Division, the London City vs Toronto Croatia match set for London was postponed due to waterlogged pitch.
In the CSL Second Division, Brantford Galaxy B defeated Toronto Atomic B, 3-2.
