North York Astros extended their unbeaten streak to seven games with a resounding 4-0 victory over Burlington SC, Toronto Croatia defeated Niagara United 3-1 and Serbian White Eagles came from a 1-0 deficit to score an equalizer in the second half for a 1-1 tie with Brampton City Utd, three games in the CSL Saturday night.

The in-form Astros continued to impress with two quick goals shortly following kickoff at Downsview Park in North York, a relocation from their home ground Esther Shiner which is under repair following recent water damage to the playing surface.

Midfielder Jose Melo struck at the 8 minute mark, heading in from a right wing cross and this was followed by a second goal for the home side just two minutes later, scored by Igor Pisanjuk. It was 2-0 at half time.

North York defender Antoine Paul increased the lead to 3-0 at 49 minutes, taking the ball up the left side to beat Burlington goalkeeper Vladimir Vujasinovic and Melo scored a second goal at 79 minutes for a 4-0 score at the final whistle.

The goals were Melo’s 7^th and 8^th of the season and the Astros’ win completed a double for the Toronto team following a 3-0 victory over Burlington at Nelson Stadium on Tuesday.

The Astros take over third place in the First Division standings with a 5-3-3WLT record for 18 points behind York Region Shooters and Toronto Croatia,  while Burlington slip to fourth with a 5-6-1 record for 16 points.

Toronto Croatia are also gaining strength following their shaky start to the season and it was Pero Menalo who opened the scoring against Niagara United at the 8 minute in the game played at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga. This was followed by a goal from defender Josip Keran who scored from the penalty spot at 23 minutes, 2-0 at the break.

Menalo scored a second goal, beating Niagara goalkeeper Matthew Greco at 57 minutes for a 3-0 lead in favour of the home side, but Niagara struck back with a goal by Sandro Rajkovic for a 3-1 final score.

Toronto Croatia improve to 6-3-2 for 20 points, six points behind the league leaders York Region Shooters.

Midfielder Jhon Fatoki put Brampton City Utd into the lead with an opening goal at 36 minutes against Serbian White Eagles at Lamport Stadium in Toronto’s west-end for a 1-0 score at half-time.

It was a close encounter into the second half, but Serbian Eagles tied the game five minutes after the interval on a goal by midfielder Timotej Zakrajsek who collected a cross from the left to drive the ball into the net from 16 yards for a 1-1 tie. There was no further scoring to the final whistle.

Brampton played the last 25 minutes short handed after midfielder Francisco Javier Juarez was ejected after receiving a second yellow card.

Brampton City Utd  have a 4-5-3 record for 15 points in sixth position in the standings, while Serbian White Eagles have a 4-4-2 record for 14 points in seventh position.

There were two games in the CSL Second Division Saturday, SC Waterloo B and York Region Shooters B played to a 1-1 draw, while Toronto Croatia B defeated Niagara United B, 4-3.

Kingston FC scored late to salvage a 2-2 tie with London City in the only game played in the Canadian Soccer League Friday night.

Kingston striker Guillaume Surot opened the scoring with a goal at 32 minutes, finding the net past London goalkeeper Vladimir Markotic,.

London tied the game just six minutes later when Marin Vucemilovic Grgic struck at the 39 minute mark and Grgic scored a second from the penalty spot following a foul in the box against London midfielder Nenad Begovic. It was 2-1 at half-time.

The goals were the 13 and 14 goal of the season for Grgic who leads the First division scoring.

It was a fought hard second half and several attempts to come back on even terms eventually paid off for the visitors when Surot scored his second of the game for Kingston at the 85 minute mark.

The 2-2 tie held to the final whistle and the goals were numbers 10 and 11 for Surot who is currently second in the goal scoring table behind Grgic.

The tie improves Kingston to a 4-4-3WLT record for 15 points, tied for fourth position with North York Astros, while London City are at 3-7-2 for 11 points in ninth position in the standings.

York Region Shooters return to First Division action with a game at Warrior Field in Waterloo where the Southwestern Ontario side are struggling to hit the kind of good form shown in the second half of the 2013 season when they went on to become CSL champions. It’s not an easy game for the Shooters and is a game where the outcome is hard to predict. Kickoff is 7 pm.

North York Astros are attracting a lot of attention while on a six-game undefeated streak since the loss to York Region Shooters on June 15. The Astros have shot up the table and a victory over Burlington SC Saturday would lift the Toronto team even higher than the present fourth position, to at least a third place in the standings.

The Astros have been dislocated from their Esther Shiner Stadium home ground due to recent flooding which has damaged the surface and the game with Burlington, previously scheduled for Sunday, will now be played at Downsview Park Saturday.

Brampton City Utd picked up their fourth victory of the season,  a 2-0 away win over Niagara United to jump into fifth position in the standings, the only First Division game played in the CSL Saturday night.

Jean Tshimpaka opened the scoring for the visitors at the 36 minute mark following a breakaway which ended with the Brampton forward finding the net past Niagara goalkeeper Matthew Greco, and it was 1-0 at the break.

Brampton increased the lead to 2-0 at 80 minutes when Leaford Allen scored his seventh of the season, heading into the net a cross from the left wing.

The win improved Brampton’s record to 4-5-2 WLT for 14 points and an improved position from seventh in the standings  to fourth. Niagara now has a 2-6-2 record for eight points in ninth position.

In the CSL Second Division, , SC Waterloo B defeated Toronto Croatia B, 6-2 and Brampton City Utd B won their reserve game 3-1 over Niagara United B.

With York Region Shooters idle this weekend, there is an opportunity for Burlington and Toronto Croatia to cut the 10-point margin held by the league-leaders at the top of the First Division. The second and third teams are playing the one game in hand, both having played nine games, one game less than 10 completed by York Region.

The Shooters have an impressive defensive record, having conceded just eight goals in the 10 played, matched only by Serbian White Eagles, they have conceded eight goals from nine games played.

One game in the Second Division, Winstars Shooters vs Burlington SC B scheduled for Sunday, has been cancelled.

North York Astros gained a 2-1 away win at Kingston, SC Waterloo defeated Niagara United 2-0 and Brampton City Utd upset Burlington  SC 3-1, three games in the CSL Sunday.

The Astros were off to a quick start at the Queen’s West Field at Kingston, scoring almost immediately following the kickoff  when midfielder Jose Goncalves De Sousa intercepted a pass by Kingston defender Ryan McCurdy to drive the ball into the net past Kingston goalkeeper Jaroslev Tesar. The score is recorded as one minute and it was 1-0 at the break.

Kingston tied the game 1-1 at 69 minutes when striker Guillaume Surot beat North York goalkeeper Kevin Lumbsden Pinto for his tenth goal  of the season, but the winner came from the visitors at 82 minutes, a picture goal from Goncalves De Sousa who struck a cross from the left wing into the far side of the net and the goal held up for a 2-1 final score in favour of the Astros.  It was the midfielder’s sixth goal of the season.

The victory marked the first game on the bench since 2011 for Astros’ head coach Jorge Collazo, a position held in the interim by player-coach Igor Pisajunk, and the away win lifted the Toronto area team (3-3-3WLT- 12 points) into a tie with SC Waterloo for sixth position in the standings, while Kingston FC now have a 4-5-2 record for 14 points in fourth position.

Waterloo’s Drazen Vukovic opened the scoring at the third minute mark at the Warrior Field in Waterloo against the visiting Niagara United, taking a cross from Kiril Dimitrov on the chest to volley into the bottom right corner of the net.

It was 1-0 at half-time and scoreless into the second half until the 90 minute when Aleksander Stojiljkovic and Adis Haecic combined to set-up Ramon Bailey who made it 2-0 for the home side, the final score.

Waterloo have moved up quickly to now have a 3-5-3WLT record for a tie for sixth place.

Midfielder Adrian Tismenar scored at the 42 minute for Brampton City Utd at the Nelson Stadium in Burlington for a 1-0 score at the break and Francisco Javier Juarez made it 2-0 for the visitors at 51 minutes.

Juber Quinteros increased the the lead to 3-0 for Brampton at 65 minutes, and Burlington reduced the lead to 3-1 with a goal by Elvis Mesic at 78 minutes, it was 3-1 at the final whistle.

Burlington SC remain in second position in the standings with a 5-3-1 record for 16 points, while Brampton City Utd now have a 3-5-2 record for 11 points in eight position.

Toronto Croatia gained an important victory with a 2-1 defeat of Serbian White Eagles in the only game played in the CSL First Division Saturday night.

With both teams bidding for higher position near the top of the standings, Serbian White  Eagles took the lead at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga on a goal by Timotej Zakrajsek at the 10 minute mark.

Toronto Croatia’s Sean Brown tied the game 1-1, beating Serbian Eagles’ goalkeeper Stefan Avramovic at 26 minutes, and Ivan Cutura scored the winner at 43 minutes for a 2-1 lead by the home side at half-time and the score at the final whistle. It was Cutura’s fifth goal of the season.

Serbian White Eagles were reduced to 10 men at 76 minutes when midfielder Thomas McLean was ejected.

Toronto Croatia now have a 5-3-1 WLT record for 16 points and tied with Burlington for second position in the standings, while Serbian White Eagles are at 4-4-1 for 13 points in fifth place.

There was one game in the CSL Second Division Saturday when Toronto Croatia B defeated Serbian White Eagles B, 5-0.

York Region Shooters continued their march to the First Division title with a 4-1 defeat of London City to stretch an unbeaten streak to 10 games. It was the only game played in the CSL Friday night.

All goals came in the second half after London City held the visitors to a scoreless first half in an entertaining encounter at the Hellenic Centre in London.

York Region Shooters opened the scoring at 54 minutes, a goal by forward Ryan Dummett who brought the ball from the right wing to drive into the net from 10 yards.

Baba Fatoba increased the lead to 2-0 two minutes later and at 59 minutes Oswald Adu added a third.

London striker Marin Vucemilovic Grgic scored from the penalty spot following a foul in the box to reduce the Shooters’ lead to 3-1, the goal coming at the 74^th minute mark and it was Vucemilovic Grgic’s 10^th goal of the season to lead the CSL First Division scoring.

Adu beat London goalkeeper Vladimir Markotic at 82 minutes to make it 4-1 and the score held until the final whistle.

The Shooters now have a 8-0-2 WLT record for 26 points, eight ahead of second place Burlington, while London City are at  2-7-1 for tenth in the standings.

There was one game in the CSL Second Division Thursday night when York Region Shooters B defeated Winstars Shooters 4-0.

York Region Shooters will travel to London Friday night in an effort to keep the unbeaten streak intact, but they will be without striker Richard West who is expected to be out of the line-up for some weeks after suffering a fractured collarbone. The Shooters begin the second half of the season seven points ahead of their nearest rivals Burlington and nine and 10 points respectively ahead of Kingston and Toronto Croatia.

SC Waterloo gained a long overdue second win of the season last Sunday, a 1-0 defeat at Brampton City Utd  to lift the current CSL champions three places up the standings into seventh position, but still well short of being a contender for the First Division title. Waterloo are at home to Niagara United this weekend.

Kingston FC are over most of their early season rash of injuries and their home game against North York Astros on Sunday will see the continuation of a stronger, more determined bid for First Division honours. Toronto Croatia have also hit their stride following a slow early season start.

York Region Shooters kept up their unbeaten streak with a 1-0 victory over Serbian White Eagles, SC Waterloo defeated Brampton City Utd 1-0 and a third game to be played in the CSL Sunday, the Burlington SC vs. North York Astros was postponed due to severe lightning.

The Shooters have reached the half-way mark in their 2014 regular season campaign with seven wins and two ties and now sit on top of the standings with 23 points,  seven points in front of Burlington in the runner-up position.

The Shooters needed some help from the rule book to secure the three points n their 1-0 victory at the St. Joan of Arc ground at Maple after the game was abandoned at 55 minutes due to severe lightning.  Referee Davor Krasic suspended the game early in the second half and waited 30 minutes before deciding on the abandonment due to the persistent threat of lightning. League rules award a game abandoned under these circumstances to a team leading if the first half is completed.

York Region midfielder Gerard Ladiyou struck the only goal after he collected a rebound from a save by Serbian Eagles’ goalkeeper Stefan Avramovic to drive the ball into the net from close in. The goal was scored at the 15 minute mark. The home side had other chances to score, including a penalty kick by Hector Mackie which was saved by Avramovic.

It was also a low scoring affair at the Victoria Park ground in Brampton where Waterloo striker Drazen Vukovic  scored the only goal at the 10 minute mark. Vukovic collected the ball close the half-way line to move just inside the penalty box in a solo effort, then hit a low drive out of reach of Brampton goalkeeper Cristian Montreo Velez.

The win lifted Waterloo off the bottom tenth position, moving up to tie with North York Astros for sixth spot, both teams with nine points.

A third game, Burlington SC vs the Astros scheduled for Nelson Park in Burlington, was postponed at game time due to the severe weather conditions including lightning.

Kingston FC defeated Niagara United 4-0 and Toronto Croatia also scored an away victory, a  4-2  result at London City, two games in the Canadian Soccer League Saturday night.

Akil Defreitas opened the scoring at the Kalar Sports Park in Niagara Falls, the Kingston midfielder took a pass from Edgar Soglo and found the net past Niagara goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo at the 13 minute mark.

Striker Guillaume Surot struck the first of two goals to increase the Kingston lead  at 34 minutes, and with the the score 2-0 at the break Surot again found the net in the second half to make it 3-0 at 75 minutes.

Mademba Ba rounded the scoring to 4-0 at 87 minutes, the score at the final whistle.

Toronto Croatia opened the scoring at the Hellenic centre in London, midfielder Hayden Fitzwillams finding the net past London goalkeeper Vladimir Markotic at the 37 minute, but London tied the score 1-1 just two minutes later on a goal by Marin Vucemilovic Grgic.

Ivan Cutura put the visitors ahead 2-1 at the 42 minute mark, the score at half-time.

Fitzwilliams scored a second goal at 62 minutes for a 3-1 Toronto Croatia lead and Cutura struck his second goal of the game for a 4-1 lead at 78 minutes, the second time the Toronto Croatia midfielder has found the net twice, scoring two goals in the 3-1 defeat of Brampton City Utd on July 19.

Grgic scored a second goal for London City at 79 minutes for his ninth goal of the season and the game ended 4-2 in favour of Toronto Croatia.

There was one game in the CSL Second Division Saturday, Kingston FC B defeated Niagara United B 3-2 and the win keeps Kingston on top of the standings.

  There are several teams in the CSL First Division – SC Waterloo, Kingston FC and Toronto Croatia to name just three –  that have been under performing and have some catching up to do if they are to be contenders for the First Division title as the league nears the half-way stage of the regular season.

CSL champions SC Waterloo, with just six points and sitting in the cellar position, appear to be hopelessly behind, while Kingston FC – last season’s First Division winner – and Toronto Croatia, are showing signs of putting in a strong second half and can still be considered to win the top division if they can start closing the gap soon.

It’s not going to be easy if Shooters (20 points at the top) keep up their impressive  unbeaten run, a ‘catch me if you can’ attitude over eight games that’s going to be hard to beat.

Burlington SC (16 points in second position and at home to the Astros) and .Serbian White Eagles (13 points in third position and away to the Shooters) are also in a position to make a successful bid for the top and it’s going to be interesting to see if they can keep up their recent good form and represent a serious challenge along with Kingston and Toronto Croatia.
