DIMITROV GOAL GIVES SCARBOROUGH SUNDAY VICTORY
Scarborough SC defeated CSC Mississauga by a 1-0 score at Birchmount Stadium in the only game played in the CSL First Division Sunday.
The game was a well played encounter, largely in the midfield with few scoring opportunities throughout.
Forward Kiril Dimitrov struck the winner for the home side, breaking through to face CSC Mississauga goalkeeper Faris Efendic in a one on one before slotting the ball into the net from 12 yards. The goal came at 60 minutes and was enough to give the east Toronto team the three points.
Mississauga had difficulty penetrating the Scarborough defence with John Trye in the Scarborough goal able to handle the few scoring opportunities that came his way.
Midfielder Odain Simpson was prominent for the home side.
The win gives Scarborough a 3-2-1WLT record for 10 points for a tie with second place FC Ukraine United in the standings, trailing league leaders FC Vorkuta by six points and one point ahead of now fourth place Serbian White Eagles.
CSC Mississauga, adjusting to their inaugural season in professional soccer, has a 0-3-2 record for two points in eighth position in the table.
The two teams meet again for their next game when CSC Mississauga hosts Scarborough next Friday, June 29, at the Iceland Field in Mississauga a 9 pm kickoff.
There was one game in the CSL Second Division Sunday when FC Vorkuta B defeated Halton United B, 3-1.
