HAMILTON CITY DOWN TORONTO FALCONS FRIDAY

Hamilton City gained its first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Toronto Falcons in the only match played in the Canadian Soccer League Friday night, August 2. It was a well-played encounter at the Ford Centennial Stadium and the Steel City club were full marks for the win following four defeats and a tie since kickoff on June 23.

Midfielder Gregor Zugely opened the scoring for Hamilton, a left foot low drive out of reach of Falcons’ goalkeeper Volodymyr Protsenko at the 32nd minute mark. Toronto Falcons pressed for an equalizer with Ivan Varvarynets close to scoring and there were strong saves by Hamilton goalkeeper Francis Sadik. It was 1-0 at the break.

Luan Cortez made it 2-0 for Hamilton at the 80th minute, collecting a pass from the left wing to beat Protzenko with a low drive at the 80th minute mark. Forward Roman Tsytsyk scored at 86 minutes for Toronto Falcons, a 2-1 result for Hamilton City 1 at the final whistle.

Hamilton City are fifth in the standings, while Toronto Falcons are in second position, tied on points with a superior goal average over Serbian White Eagles in third. Scarborough lead the standings.

The next games in the CSL are at Esther Shiner Stadium on Saturday, August 10 with Toronto Falcons vs Spanish Future Stars at 2 pm, Serbian White Eagles vs Hamilton City at 4 pm and Unity FC vs Scarborough at 6.
