Serbian White Eagles survived a squeaker to defeat Scarborough 1-0 in the last minute of the opening game of the Canadian Soccer League regular season Sunday, which was followed by Unity FC’s 6-0 defeat of expansion team Aeem Canada. Both games played at Esther Shiner Stadium, Toronto.
Midfielder Marko Krasic struck the winner at 89 minutes in defense of the CSL league title win of 2024, which followed the league title win of 2022 and a runner-up finish in 2023. The west Toronto team hit quick success this new season by capturing the CSL Royal Cup on June 15.
Erick Hernandez led Unity FC to the 6-0 victory with the first hat-trick of the 2025 season. He scored the opening goal of the match at the 23rd minute, his second at 78 minutes and he beat Aeem goalkeeper Fabian Mccalla a third time to complete the hat-trick at the 90th minute mark. Robina Lukas at 58 minutes, Joao Pedro Costa at 60 minutes and Alan Aluarenga at 82 minutes completed the scoring.
CSL league games return to Esther Shiner Stadium on Sunday, June 29, with Unity FC at home to Scarborough at 2 pm and Aeem Canada will host Serbian White Eagles at 4 pm
