STRIZOVIC HITS FOUR IN SERBIAN EAGLES VICTORY

Serbian White Eagles midfielder Vladimir Strizovic led his team with four goals in a 6-3 victory over Brantford Galaxy and in one other match played in the Canadian Soccer League Friday night, Scarborough SC defeated CSC Mississauga 4-0.

Strizovic opened the scoring for Serbian White Eagles at Centennial Stadium in Toronto’s west-end, a tap in from close in at the 10 minute mark and Marko Stajic made it 2-0 for the home side six minutes later, a curving drive from the 18 yard line that entered the far post.

Strizovic scored his second to increase the lead to 3-0 at 25 minutes, scoring off a rebound from Galaxy goalkeeper Georgi Jovicic.  Brantford Galaxy cut the lead with two goals before the interval, a goal by Zoran Cyijetic at 30 minutes and a second when Alex Bercik beat Serbian White Eagles goalkeeper Nikola Postic at 44 minutes for a 3-2 score at the break.

Strizovic  completed his hat-trick at the 53rd minute mark for a 4-2 Serbian White Eagles lead and the former Serbia Second Division player beat Jovicic to score his fourth goal at 59 minutes for a 5-2 lead. Strizovic now has 7 goals on the season.

Bozidar Tadic struck for Serbian White Eagles at 69 minutes, a 6-2 lead and Bercik found the net for the visitors at the 74th minute mark, a 6-3 result at the final whistle.

Serbian White Eagles are in third position in the standings with a 6-1-1 WLT record for 19 points following the win, while Brantford Galaxy have a 0-8-1 record for one point at the foot of the table.

In the late game at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Scarborough defeated CSC Mississauga 4-0, goals by Kevin Bryan  at 25 minutes for a 1-0 lead at the interval, with Alexander Stojiljkovic at 66 minutes and Zoran Rajovic with two late goals, 87 and 90 minutes.

Scarborough continues to occupy the runner-up position in the standings as a result of the victory, the east Toronto team now has a 7-2-1 record for 22 points, three points behind league-leading FC Vorkuta, while CSC Mississauga are in eighth position in the table with a 2-7-1 record for 7 points.

Expansion team Kingsman A is climbing steadily up the table following three consecutive victories against some tough opposition and doing it with an impressive goal performance by finding the net eight times while conceding just two.

It’s not unusual for teams in their inaugural year to surprise, but two of the teams on the losing end, FC Ukraine United and Waterloo are considered to be in contention for league and championship honours this year and as the schedule moves in to the second half of the season, teams closing in at the top are fighting for every point they can get.

Kingsman face a big test on Saturday while at home to league-leading unbeaten FC Vorkuta in what should be an interesting match against a Vorkuta aiming to clinch the First Division early before defending its CSL Championship triumph of 2018.

Waterloo is sitting in mid table having disappointed since winning both opening games 4-0 with the addition of some new talent from Europe and the club now realizes any opportunity for regular season league honours requires solid wins soon to move forward as a serious contender. The team from Southwestern Ontario, which won a memorable championship and league winning double in 2013, hosts Hamilton City at RIM Park on Saturday.

Scarborough and Serbian White Eagles, in second and third in the standings respectively, are well positioned to challenge runaway Vorkuta. Serbian Eagles, with just one defeat at this mid-point juncture of the regular season, are at home Friday night against lowly Brantford Galaxy, while Scarborough visit the Hershey Centre Friday for an encounter with an improving CSC Mississauga.

Ukraine United have experienced a struggling first half of the season with four defeats in seven matches to date, compared to the team’s two defeats during the entire 16-game regular season 2018 league-winning campaign. Ukraine United visit Huron Park for a clash with Real Mississauga Saturday.

SCARBOROUGH KEEPS PACE WITH 5-0 VICTORY SUNDAY

Scarborough SC handed Real Mississauga a 5-0 defeat, while Hamilton City gave last year’s First Division title holder Ukraine United its third loss of the season by a 2-1 score, Kingsman A also delivered a 2-1 result over visiting SC Waterloo and CSC Mississauga gained a 4-0 away victory over Brantford Galaxy, four games in the CSL First Division Sunday.

Forward Gonzalo Matias Cabrera-Celis struck twice at 25 minutes, then five minutes later –  goals 5 and 6 for the season — to put Scarborough into a 2-0 first half lead over Real Mississauga at Birchmount Stadium and Kavin Bryan volleyed from 18 yards to make it 3-0 at the 40th minute mark, the score at halftime.

Striker Aleksander Stojiljkovic increased the lead for the home side to 4-0 at 80 minutes and midfielder Naieemoliah Mobin rounded the scoring to 5-0 at 85 minutes, the score at the final whistle.

Scarborough kept pace in second position in the standings with a 5-2-1 record for 16 points as a result of the win, while Real Mississauga has a 1-4-1 record for 9 points in ninth position.

Nazar Milishchuk opened the scoring for Ukraine United at the Heritage Field, finding the net past Hamilton City goalkeeper Alexandar Nicolic at the 34th minute mark for a 1-0 score at the interval.

Haris Osmanagic struck twice in return for Hamilton City, an equalizer at 49 minutes, then a winner four minute later for a 2-1 victory for the home side. The win improved Hamilton City to a 2-3-2 record for eight points and seventh in the standings, while Ukraine United are at 4-3-0 for 12 points in sixth position.

Midfielder Dmytro Polyuhanych opened the scoring at 9 minutes for Kingsman against Waterloo at Esther Shiner Stadium and Andrii Kovalchuk made it 2-0 at 35 minutes, the score at the interval.

Both sides had opportunities to score and at the 66th minute Petar Dordevic struck for the visitors to cut the lead to 2-1 which held at the final whistle in favour of Kingsman.

Kingsman move up to fourth position in the standings with a 4-4-0 record  as a result of the victory and are tied with Waterloo, each with 12 points.

Defender Anthony Gabriel scored first for the visiting CSC Mississauga, finding the net at  11 minutes at the Heritage Field against Brantford Galaxy, and forward Pero Menalo made is 2-0 at the 33rd minute mark. Vitalli Koliesnikov made it 3-0 five minutes later, the score at the break. Defender Kresimir Kristic completed the scoring, a 4-0 victory for CSL Mississauga.

It was the Mississauga’s side’s most emphatic victory since entering the CSL in 2018 and the win improves the team to a 2-6-1 record for 7 points and eighth position in the standings, while Brantford Galaxy remain at the foot of the table with a 0-7-1 record for one point.

SERBIAN EAGLES SNAP VORKUTA WINNING STREAK

Serbian White Eagles held FC Vorkuta to a 1-1 draw to end an 8-game winning streak by the current CSL champions, the only match scheduled in the Canadian Soccer League First Division Saturday.

The match was played in heavy rain at the Ontario Soccer Centre and while the weather played a part in limiting the free-wheeling style to which Vorkuta has been accustomed while winning all eight to this mid-point of the season, Serbian White Eagles looked strong in defence and kept Vorkuta off the scoresheet for a scoreless tie at the break.

Serbian White Eagles broke through at 58 minutes when Bozidar Tadic took a cross from the right to head in past Vorkuta goalkeeper Anatolii Starushchenko and following several attempts on the Serbian Eagles’ goal the home side equalized at 74 minutes when Sergii Ivliev collected a rebound in the box to drive a powerful shot into the Serbian White Eagles net. It was Ivliev’s first goal of the season.

Vorkuta came close late including near miss by Mykola Temniuk and a drive by midfielder Iaroslav Solonynko that shook the crossbar and the 1-1 score held to the final whistle.

Vorkuta lead the First Division with a 8-0-1 WLT record for 25 points, while Serbian White Eagles are in third position with a 5-1-1 record for 16 points.

SERBIAN WHITE EAGLES TOUGH TO SCORE AGAINST

PICTURE: While Vorkuta has yet to drop a point, Serbian White Eagles are tough to score against and Saturday’s encounter may may be a challenge for the current champions.

It’s a full slate with all 10 teams in action this coming weekend, the halfway point of the season for a Canadian Soccer League First Division that continues to be led by a team that has earned its catch me if you can attitude with an 8-0-0 record while also posturing for a soon-to-be defence of the league championship.

FC Vorkuta has an 8 point margin at the top which is a formidable challenge for any opposition that still has design on winning the First Division title. Vorkuta B, the club’s reserve team, is developing a similar pattern, not yet conceding a point with its 4-0-0 record in the Second Division following a 5-2 victory over Kingsman B on July 17.

Not surprisingly, Vorkuta’s Mykola Temniuk, a Ukraine-born striker, leads the First Division goalscoring after finding the net 10 times so far in the campaign.

Vorkuta is at home Saturday at the Ontario Soccer Centre against Serbian White Eagles, a team that has won five of its six games played so far and has a reputation for being difficult to score against. Serbian Eagles has been conceding about one goal per game in recent times, which is often championship performance. The team conceded one goal per game during the regular season in 2017, 1.25 in 2018 and in the current campaign is running at 1.3 goals per game in the six matches played. The stout defence and top goalkeeping, mostly by Goran Skaric, may prove to be a challenge for Vorkuta.

Judging by the team’s performance since entering the CSL in 2016, Ukraine United are in a catch-up position having been defeated twice in the six games played so far. The Toronto-based team visits Hamilton City Sunday. CSC Mississauga, coming off a 5-2 defeat to Ukraine United, travels for a game with Brantford Galaxy Saturday, Waterloo will be at Esther Shiner Stadium on Sunday to meet Kingsman A  and Scarborough, following a tough 1-0 loss to Vorkuta on July 14, is at home to Real Mississauga, also on Sunday.

VORKUTA MARCHES ON…..Lukianets hat-trick for Ukraine Utd

FC Vorkuta scored a penalty goal 1-0 victory over Scarborough to stretch its 100 per cent record to eight games, and a hat-trick by midfielder Pavlo Lukianets led FC Ukraine United to a 5-2 defeat of CSC Mississauga, two games in the Canadian Soccer League First Division Sunday.

Vorkuta attacked the Scarborough goal early while Scarborough broke away on the counter at Birchmount Stadium, but both teams failed to score until 22 minutes when Vorkuta was awarded a penalty after Serhii Ursulenko was brought down in the box. Vorkuta captain Liubomyr Halchuk drove the ball into the net at the 22nd minute mark, it was 1-0 at the interval.

Scarborough went on the attack often in the second half and there were close calls including striking the woodwork at 76 minutes, but last season’s championship finalist failed to break through and Vorkuta held on to the 1-0 lead to the final whistle.

Vorkuta increased its winning streak to eight games for a 8-0-0 WLT record for 24 points, while Scarborough remains in second position with a 5-2-1 record for 16 points

CSC Mississauga midfielder Mykhaylo Berezovyy opened the scoring at Centennial Stadium, finding the net past Ukraine United goalkeeper Oleksandar Popravka at the 7th minute mark.

Forward Nazar Milishchuk equalized for Ukraine United at 26 minutes, his third goal of the season, and the home side scored again to take the lead five minutes later when Pavlo Lukianets struck the first of his three goals to make it 2-1.

Lukianets made it 3-1 at 39 minutes and this was followed by CSC Mississauga reducing the lead to 3-2 at 40 minutes, a goal by Pero Menalo who collected a rebound from goalkeeper Popravka off a shot by Mykhaylo Berezovyy and the score was 3-2 at the break.

Lukianets completed his hat-trick at 66 minutes for a 4-2 Ukraine United lead and forward Sviatoslav Dziadykevych completed the scoring at 92 minutes for a 5-2 result at the final whistle.

Ukraine United won its fourth game of the season, has a 4-2-0 record and is now tied in fourth position with SC Waterloo, each team with 12 points. CSC Mississauga has a 1-6-1 record for 4 points in ninth position in the table.

SECOND DIVISION UPDATE

Two goals by Ruslan Honcharuk led FC Vorkuta B to a 5-2 victory over CSC Mississauga B Sunday, giving the Vorkuta reserve team a 3-0-0 record and three points lead over Kingsman B, CSC Mississauga B and Serbian White Eagles B, each team having 6 points.

REAL MISSISSAUGA vs HAMILTON MATCH ABANDONED

A disturbance late in the first half on the field of play resulted in the abandonment of the Real Mississauga vs Hamilton City match at Huron Park in Mississauga Saturday night, the only CSL First Division game scheduled Saturday and one of three being played during the weekend.

“While we do have an early report on the game being suspended, we will not be making a decision on its disposition until the complete referee’s report is received and all circumstances are considered,” explained CSL administrator Pino Jazbec following the game.

There are two First Division matches scheduled for Sunday with FC Ukraine United at home to CSC Mississauga at Centennial Stadium, a 1 pm start, and FC Vorkuta visits Scarborough SC at Birchmount Stadium, an 8 pm kickoff. Vorkuta has yet to drop a point in the seven games played to date, while Scarborough have a 100 per cent record at home.

SCARBOROUGH HAS THE WINNING CREDENTIALS

It’s without fanfare that  FC Vorkuta is so impressive while winning every match, home and away, since its season opener on May 25. But the toughest test so far may well be the visit to Birchmount Stadium in Scarborough this weekend to meet a home side that’s sitting second in the standings with an eye-catching 100 per cent record home record while conceding just a single goal in the four home games played so far this campaign. Only five goals have been allowed in all games played by the east Toronto team, a per game average that’s the best in the league.

And Scarborough are not shy in front of goal, having found the net 20 times in the seven games played, so the balance spells a determined effort this 2019 season to clinch a league title or overall championship that’s been elusive since entering the league in 2015. It may begin on Sunday.

Vorkuta visits Scarborough Sunday evening, an 8 pm kickoff.

Ukraine United have yet to mount a serious bid, having been defeated twice in the five games played so far this season, but a more positive record is expected as the league moves into a busy mid-season period. Last year’s First division title winner is at home to CSC Mississauga at Centennial Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The weekend opens with the first of three First Division matches scheduled for Huron Park in Mississauga with Hamilton City visiting for a clash with Real Mississauga Saturday evening, a 7 pm start.

SATURDAY VICTORIES FOR VORKUTA, SERBIAN EAGLES

FC Vorkuta won an abbreviated seventh game of the season by a 3-1 score over Brantford Galaxy –  a match cut short late in the second half due to the torrential rains, Serbian White Eagles overcame a 1-0 deficit to score two late goals for a 2-1 win over SC Waterloo,  and Scarborough were held to a 1-1 draw by Hamilton City, three games in the Canadian Soccer League First Division Saturday.

Vorkuta attacked early at Heritage Field but Brantford Galaxy struck first with a half volley by Bojan Samardzija, his fifth goal of the season, that caught the corner of the net for a 1-0 lead by the home side at 17 minutes.

Vorkuta equalized at 29 minutes when a rebound from a save by Galaxy goalkeeper Georgi Jovicic from a drive by Serhii Ursulenko was picked up by Bohdan Borovskyi who promptly found the net with a powerful shot.

Liubomyr Halchuk made it 2-1 for Vorkuta from the penalty spot at 47 minutes after Ursulenko was brought down just inside the box and at 50 minutes Mykola Temniuk took a through pass from Pavlo Chornomaz to drive a low shot into the far corner, a 3-1 score in favour of Vorkuta at the final whistle in difficult conditions during a downpour late in the game. It was Temniuk’s 10th goal of the season to lead  goalscoring in the First Division.

Vorkuta have a 7-0-0 WLT record for 21 points on top of the First Division, while Brantford Galaxy are at the foot of the table with a 0-6-1 record for one point.

Waterloo opened the scoring at RIM Park with a goal at 10 minutes by midfielder Miodrag Kovacevic, his 5th of the season,  and it was an even contest to the break with the score 1-0 for the home side.

There were few opportunities until Serbian White Eagles struck with two goals in the closing stages, the first by Bozidar Tadic who found the net past Waterloo goalkeeper Dalibor Ivanovic at 82 minutes and the winning goal three minutes later by forward Milos Scepanovic, his 4th of the season. Waterloo pressed for an equalizer late but it was 2-1 for the visitors at the final whistle.

Serbian White Eagles are in third position in the standings with a 5-1-0 record for 15 points following the win, while Waterloo are in 4th position with a 4-4-0 for 12 points.

Scarborough took a first half lead on a goal by Hammud Ali Atif and Lucas Raposo equalized for Hamilton City in the 1-1 draw in the early game at Heritage Field. Scarborough now has a 5-1-1 record for 16 points in second position in the table, while Hamilton City has a 1-3-2 record for five points in seventh position.

KINGSMAN UPSET UKRAINE UTD – Mississauga teams tie

Expansion team Kingsman A upset current First Division title holder Ukraine United 2-1, while in the local Mississauga encounter CSC Mississauga and Real Mississauga fought to a 1-1 draw, two games in the Canadian Soccer League First Division Friday night.

Follwing a scoreless first half, forward Ivan Kucherenko opened the scoring for visiting Ukraine United at Esther Shiner Stadium, the goal coming from a penalty at 59 minutes when Kingsman defender Oleksandar Alieksieiev brought down a Ukraine United player in the box and referee Afsar Khan has no hesitation in pointing to the spot.

Kingsman equalized on a goal by forward Viktor Raskov five minutes later. Raskov, who entered as a substitute at halftime, took a  good cross from Andrii Kovalchuk  to head into the net.

Raskov also struck the late winner for the home side, taking a long ball from Hlib Kiselov to find the net with a chip shot at the 86th minute mark.

Kingsman were reduced to 10 men at 88 minutes when Stanislav Katana was shown the red card by referee Khan following a second caution and the 2-1 score in favour of Kingsman held to the final whistle.

Real Mississauga led after six minutes at the Hershey Centre, the 1-0 score judged an own goal when a dangerous cross by forward Danilo Richards was partially blocked by CSC Mississauga midfielder Ivan Sozanski, but then entered the net past CSC goalkeeper Ivan Koko.

CSC Mississauga equalized at 14 minutes when Amador Torres was brought down in the box on a counter attack and  defender Peter Vukadin struck from the penalty spot into the bottom right corner of the net. It was 1-1 at the break.

Real Mississauga were reduced to 10 men at 67 minutes when forward Mohamed Elsabahy was given a second caution and shown the red card by referee Marco Jaramillo.

It was end to end with both sides on the attack in the second half and CSC Mississauga found the net from close range at 83 minutes but the goal was ruled offside. The 1-1 draw held to the final whistle.

THE WEEKEND GAMES: A local Mississauga clash between CSC Mississauga and Real Mississauga gets the First Division weekend games underway at the Hershey Centre and at the same 9 pm kickoff time a second game will be played Friday night with Kingsman A at home to FC Ukraine United at Esther Shiner Stadium.

Ukraine United went down 2-0 to Scarborough in just its fourth game of the new season on June 30 and Kingsman may find last year’s First Division title winner tough to handle as the Ukraine side resumes its bid for top honours.

Scarborough, which has won four games from five played and is away to Hamilton City Saturday night, is expected to continue with the form that took the Toronto east-end side to the championship final game last season, a game lost in a penalty kick shoot-out to FC Vorkuta.

Serbian White Eagles and SC Waterloo, both playing well and placed second and third in the standings respectively, come together at RIM Park, Waterloo on Saturday at 7. Both teams are capable as they look to repeat their championship honours of recent years – Serbian White Eagles in 2016 and Waterloo in 2013.

But FC Vorkuta are the early season favourites and in a top vs bottom match with Brantford Galaxy at Heritage Field on Saturday night. Vorkuta have come out on top in all six games played so far, while the Galaxy have yet to win this season following a eighth place of nine finish in 2018.

SCHEDULE CHANGE: The league office has announced a change in the First Division schedule that affects Game 52 on Saturday, August 3 between SC Waterloo and FC Vorkuta previously set for Guelph University, will now be played the following day, Sunday, August 4 at RIM Park a 7 pm kickoff.

 SECOND DIVISION UPDATE: A 7-1 victory by FC Vorkuta B Wednesday night moved the reserve team in a tie for the top position of the CSL Second Division and although Kinsman B was defeated 5-3 by Serbian White Eagles B the same night they, and CSC Mississauga B, are also tied at the top. All three sides have six points and are in front of Hamilton City B (1-1-0 WLT with 3 points), Serbian White Eagles B (1-2-0 with 3 points) and Brantford Galaxy B (0-3-0 with 0 points.).

SCARBOROUGH DEFEATS UKRAINE UNITED 2-0 SUNDAY

Scarborough SC scored twice in the first half to defeat FC Ukraine United 2-0 in a well played encounter at Birchmount Stadium Sunday night, to complete the holiday weekend schedule in the Canadian Soccer League.

There were few opportunities on both sides, but Scarborough scored at 19 minutes when midfielder Naieemollah Mobin found the net with a shot from 12 yards for a 1-0 lead.

Midfielder Zoran Knezevic increased the lead to 2-0 with a drive from 10 yards at the 30th minute mark, the score at the break and at the final whistle.

The victory made amends for the east Toronto team following a loss by the same score to Ukraine United at Centennial Stadium on June 23.

Scarborough takes a second position in the First Division standings as a result of the win, an improved 5-1-0 WLT record for 15 points while conceding just 4 goals in the 6 games played.

It’s the first defeat of the season for Ukraine United, now with a 3-1-0 record for nine points in fifth position. The defeat also leaves FC Vorkuta the only CSL First Division team with a 100 per cent record at this juncture of the current season.

VORKUTA, WATERLOO SCORE WEEKEND VICTORIES

FC Vorkuta jumped into a six point lead in the First Division standings with a 4-1 victory over Hamilton City, while three goals by forward Aleksandar Bozovic led Waterloo to a 4-3 decision over Real Mississauga, two games in the Canadian Soccer League Saturday.

It was Hamilton City that took the lead after just three minutes at the Ontario Soccer Centre when Haris Osmanagic was put through with only Vorkuta goalkeeper Anatolii Staruskchenko to beat, which he did before placing the ball into the empty net. Vorkuta pressed for an early equalizer, but had few opportunities while up against a strong visitors’ defence, to allow just one near miss when Vorkuta’s prolific Mykola Temniuk connected to a cross by Vadym Gostiev to head just wide. It was 1-0 for Hamilton at the break.

Temniuk equalized for Vorkuta at 50 minutes, collecting the ball inside the box to catch the corner of the net, a 1-1 score. It was Temniuk’s ninth of the season.

Bohdan Borovskyi put Vorkuta into a 2-1 lead at 61 minutes, midfielder Serhii Ursulenko took a pass from Borovskyi to increase the lead to 3-1 at 67 minutes after entering as a substitute, and at 90 minutes Sergii Ivliev and Ihor Melnyk combined for Melnyk to find the corner of the net for a 4-1 score at the final whistle.

Vorkuta lead the First Division with a 6-0-0 WLT record for 18 points, while Hamilton City are in seventh position with a 1-3-1 record for 4 points.

Bozovic opened the scoring at eight minutes for Waterloo at Huron Park and defender Vladimir Zelenbaba made it 2-0 two minutes later.

Real Mississauga player-coach Krum Bibishkov reduced the lead to 2-1 for the visitors at 11 minutes and Real Mississauga tied the score 2-2 at the 20th minute mark, a goal by Mohamed Elsabahy.

Bozovic put Waterloo into a 3-2 lead with a goal at 36 minutes and the striker completed his hat-trick with a goal at 60 minutes, 4-2 for Waterloo.

Elsabahy reduced the score with a goal for Real Mississauga at 70 minutes, a 4-3 result in favour of Waterloo at the final whistle.

Waterloo are in a 3-way tie for second position in the table with a 4-3-0 record for 12 points, while Real Mississauga has a 1-4-0 record for three points in ninth position in the standings.

There is one game remaining in the CSL holiday weekend schedule with FC Ukraine United visiting Scarborough SC in Birchmount Stadium on Sunday, that’s an 8 pm kickoff.

 

KINGSMAN SCORE 4-0 FRIDAY VICTORY

Kingsman A struck three goals late in the game for a 4-0 final score and a second win of the season to beat Brantford Galaxy at Esther Shiner Stadium, the only match in the Canadian Soccer League Friday.

Sayid Belmokhtar opened the scoring for Kingsman at 38 minutes, finding the net past Galaxy goalkeeper Georgi Jovicic for his second goal of the season. It was 1-0 at the interval in an otherwise even  first half contest.

Midfielder Ivan Yanchev made it 2-0 for Kingsman at 78 minutes and three minutes later it was 3-0 for the home side on a goal by defender Hlib Kiselov.

Midfielder Vitaliy Kolomychenko completed the scoring at 87 minutes and it was 4-0 at the final whistle.

Kingsman move up to sixth position in the First Division standings with a 2-4-0 (WLT) record for six points, while Brantford Galaxy are winless with a 0-5-1 record at the foot of the table.
