UKRAINE UNITED DEFEAT BRANTFORD GALAXY 3-0 SATURDAY

 

 

FC Ukraine United defeated Brantford Galaxy 3-0 to draw level on points with top-of-the-table Vorkuta in the only CSL First Division match played Saturday.

It was a well-played encounter in the first half when Ukraine United took a 2-0 lead at Centennial Stadium, followed by a more physical second half and a late third goal which put the game out of reach for the Galaxy.

It was a foul in the box that caused referee Afsar Khan to point to the penalty spot in the first half and Ukraine United midfielder Ihor Malysh scored his sixth of the season, driving the ball out of reach of Brantford goalkeeper Georgi Jovicic for the 1-0 lead.

A breakaway put Ukraine forward Nazar Milishchuk in the clear to make it 2-0, his seventh  goal of the season,  and a low drive from 16 yards by substitute Pavlo Lukianets at 76 minutes made it 3-0, the score at the final whistle. It was Lukianets’ eighth goal to lead Ukraine United in the scoring.

FC Ukraine United improve to a 9-2-2 WLT record for 29 points, while Brantford Galaxy are at 1-7-2 for five points in eighth position in the table.

Ukraine United and FC Vorkuta are tied with 29 points, seven points clear of third team Scarborough with 22.

Ukraine United has three games remaining in the 16-game regular season schedule, while FC Vorkuta has four games to complete its regular season. These two teams meet at Esther Shiner Stadium on September 1. Scarborough SC also has three regular season games remaining.

The CSL First Division resumes with three games over the Labour Day holiday weekend.

Serbian White Eagles defeated Real Mississauga 1-0 and SC Waterloo held on to a 4-3 score to beat CSC Mississauga, two games in the CSL First Division Friday night.

Midfielder Milan Kusic struck the first half goal giving Serbian White Eagles a narrow home victory at Centennial Stadium in Toronto’s west-end.

The win improved Serbian Eagles’ season record to 5-3-3WLT for 18 points and a move up to 4 position in the standings, while Real Mississauga now have a 2-7-2 record for 8 points in 7 position.

Defender Vladimir  Zelenbaba opened the scoring for visiting SC Waterloo, finding the net past CSC Mississauga goalkeeper Faris Efendic at 33 minutes in the match at Iceland Field in Mississauga. It was Zelenbaba’s fifth goal of the season for a 1-0 score at the break.

Midfielder Toni Trograncic equalized for Mississauga, a 1-1 score at 48 minutes.

Waterloo went ahead 2-1 at 54 minutes, a goal by Mohammad Ali Heydarpour, and 3 minutes later forward Adis Hasecic scored his third goal of the season to increase the lead to 3-1.

CSC Mississauga’s Carlos Hoffmann beat Waterloo goalkeeper Marko Jelic to cut the Waterloo lead to 3-2 at 75 minutes, midfielder Stevan Vasic put Waterloo in front by a 4-2 score at 70 minutes and Hoffman scored his second goal for CSC Mississauga to reduce the lead a second time, a 4-3 score in favour of Waterloo at 75 minutes. The 4-3  score held until the final whistle.

Waterloo now has a 4-4-2 record in the standings for 14 points in 6 position, while CSC Mississauga has a 0-10-2 record at the foot of the standings.

There is one game in the CSL First Division Saturday with FC Ukraine United at home to Brantford Galaxy at Centennial Stadium, a 9 pm kickoff, while earlier in the day in the CSL Second Division FC Vorkuta B will host Milton B, a 2 pm kickoff at the St. Roberts ground.

MEMORIES OF SANTOS AND PELE FLOOD BACK WITH VISIT OF BRAZILIAN VETERANS TEAM

 

 

For many from southern Ontario,1971 was the year Toronto Croatia won the Canadian championship, the year comedian Jerry Lewis came to the CNE, and the year Santos of Brazil, with Pele, brought the magic of Brazilian soccer to Toronto.

Memories of that Brazilian visit are still vivid. It was a Wednesday night, June 23, the night many Canadians – including Canada’s Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau –  became fans for life. With all seats taken one hour before kickoff, the match was played before an overflow crowd, including gate-crashers who scaled the walls and were given a legs-up by Toronto police. It is estimated that of the 26,000 in attendance, 4,000 were unpaid and were escorted to sit on the ground perimeter tarmac to watch a game no one wanted to miss.

Italy’s Bologna was the opposition and Santos won 2-1.

The atmosphere was electric at Varsity stadium that summer night, with keep possession football played by Santos from the Brazilian largest city of Sao Paulo and led by Pele fascinating the most ardent of soccer followers, all while supporters of the Italian side urged their players to cope with opposition moves that seemed impossible to stop. At times, it was bedlam.

With the visit to Toronto next week of Anarqui Futebol & Amigos, a Brazilian veterans team also from Sao Paulo and here to play the CSL Veteran All-Stars at the St. Joan of Arc Stadium at Maple, just north of Toronto, the memories flood back even if the geography is the only similarity between the two sides.

Anarqui Futebol & Amigos, a team of 45s plus and long past its prime, now  plays in Sao Paulo’s amateur championship and makes overseas tours to a number of countries, mostly in Europe and the African continent, a schedule they have been following for 11 years.

This year, they have decided for the first time to take on teams in North America and will be playing against a CSL Veteran All-Stars side in the Toronto area this coming Tuesday, August 28, followed by games at Montreal and Quebec City, completing the tour with a game in Orlando, Florida.

Kickoff time in the opener at the St. Joan of Arc Stadium at Maple on Tuesday is 7 pm.

FC Vorkuta and FC Ukraine United continue to lead the way with high scoring victories in the CSL First Division Saturday. Vorkuta defeated CSC Mississauga 6-2, while FC Ukraine United dominated Real Mississauga 8-1. In other games, Hamilton City and Scarborough SC played to a 4-4 draw and Brantford Galaxy struck a last minute equalizer to tie SC Waterloo 1-1.

FC Vorkuta opened the scoring just two minutes into the game with CSC Mississauga at Esther Shiner Stadium when defender Olexander Tarasenko headed just inside the far post. Vorkuta’s Serhii Ursulenko scored into an empty net to make it 2-0 at 17 minutes, his 8th of the season and the goal came following a slip-up in the Mississauga defense.

Sergii Ivliev struck a spectacular goal from 40 yards four minutes later when the Mississauga goalkeeper was caught too far off his line, 3-0 for the home side.

CSC Mississauga cut the lead to 3-1 at 31 minutes, but midfielder Bohdan Riabets made the score 4-1 for Vorkuta with a powerful header from a corner kick by Iaroslav Solonynko. It was 4-1 at the break.

Vorkuta forward Sergii Ivliev scored his second of the game and 8th of the season at 55 minutes following a solo run by Vadym Gostiev who drove a low pass to the near post for Sergii to tap into the near side for a 5-1 score.

CSC Mississauga scored their second of the game at 65 minutes, a 5-2 score and Vorkuta’s Kristijan Kezic opened his goal scoring account at 75 minutes to make the score 6-2 for the home side, the score at the final whistle.

Vorkuta has a 9-1-2 WLT record to lead the standings with 29 points while CRC Mississauga remain at the foot of the standings with a 0-9-2 record.

Ukraine United forward Taras Hromiak scored a first half hat-trick in his side’s 7-1 victory over Real Mississauga at Centennial Stadium in Toronto’s west-end, the goals coming at 15, 27 and 28 minutes, while Ihor Malysh at 18 minutes, Vitali Bohdanov at 51minutes, Yevhen Falkovskyi at 70 minutes, Roman Datsiuk at 70 minutes and Pavlo Lukianets at 81 minutes scored the remainder. It was 4-0 at the break. Midfielder Jpan Syla scored at 59 minutes for Real Mississauga.

Ukraine United has a 8-2-2 record for 26 points in second position in the table and Real Mississauga have a 2-6-2 record for 8 points in 7th position.

Forward Kavin Bryan scored three goals for visiting Scarborough against Hamilton City at the Heritage Field, but the home side recovered from the 3-1 half time deficit to tie the game 4-4. The hat-trick lifted Bryan’s goal tally to 8 for the season. Hammud Ali Atif struck Scarborough’s fourth goal, while Kristian Puljic and Marko Ferlez each scored twice for Hamilton City.

Scarborough remains in third position in the standings with a 6-3-4 record 22 points and Hamilton City retain fourth position with a 5-4-1 record for 16 points.

Waterloo dominated the game early and opened the scoring at 11 minutes when midfielder Jordan Aivaliotis found the net past Brandford Galaxy goalkeeper Georgis Jovicic at the Heritage Field. Waterloo led 1-0 at the interval but as the second half progressed the Galaxy pressed for an equalizer that came at the 90 minute mark, a goal by Uros Vidovic who beat Waterloo goalkeeper Marko Jelic.

Brantford Galaxy now have a 1-6-2 WLT record for 5 points and 8th position in the standings, while Waterloo have a 3-4-2 record for 11 points in 6th position.

With just four weeks to the end of the regular season, teams in the CSL First Division are either in a position to bid for the league title or at the lower level of the table playing for the points to secure a place in the playoffs. The opening post-season quarterfinal games get underway September 28.

With nine teams in the CSL’s top division, the top eight will qualify for the playoffs and an opportunity to advance to the CSL Championship Final set for October 13.

While FC Vorkuta are slight favorites to repeat the First Division title win of their debut 2017 CSL season, the margin continues to be narrow which makes it clear the team that represents the Russian community is in for a another season-end struggle with FC Ukraine United and Scarborough, while Hamilton City and Serbian White Eagles are in the wings and ready to step in should any of the top three show signs of faltering.

At the foot of the table, CSC Mississauga will be making a late season bid to pick up sufficient points to qualify, but to start a vertical climb they will have to overcome high flying Vorkuta at Esther Shiner Stadium on Saturday, one of four First Division matches being played that day. CSC Mississauga also are handicapped with having played more games than the three clubs sitting just above the bottom position. The FC Vorkuta vs CSC Mississauga clash will kickoff at 7 pm.

An earlier kickoff on Saturday has Hamilton City at home to Scarborough at the Heritage Field, a 6.30 pm start, Waterloo travels for a game with Brantford Galaxy, an 8.30 pm kickoff, and at Centennial Stadium in Toronto’s west-end FC Ukraine United are at home to Real Mississauga at 9 pm.

In the CSL Second Division, Scarborough SC B is at home to Halton United B at the OSA Soccer Centre Stadium, an 8 pm kickoff on Saturday, and on Sunday it’s Milton B vs Serbian White Eagles B, a 7.30 pm kickoff at the Milton Sports Centre.

Serbian White Eagles recovered from recent defeats to improve their league title bid with a 3-0 win over Brantford Galaxy, while Scarborough SC suffered a setback in their bid for the title with a 3-1 loss to visiting SC Waterloo, two games in the CSL First Division Sunday night.

Following a scoreless first half with few opportunities, Kiril Dimitrov opened the scoring at the 57th minute mark for Scarborough at Birchmount Stadium, a drive from 25 yards inside the right post that left Waterloo goalkeeper Marko Jelic with little chance for the save.

Waterloo drew level when midfielder Vladimir Stankovic took a cross from the right wing to find the net past Scarborough goalkeeper John Trye and seven minutes later the visitors went ahead 2-1 on a goal by Mohamed Aborig.

Waterloo scored a third at 80 minutes, a goal by Vladimir Zelenbaba and the side from southern Ontario held the 3-1 lead until the final whistle.
Waterloo improved its position to 6th in the standings with a 3-4-1 WLT record for 10 points following the win, while Scarborough remained in third position with a 7-2-3 record for 24 points.

Serbian White Eagles went ahead at the 8th minute mark in the game at the Heritage Field when Andrej Marinkovic beat Brantford Galaxy goalkeeper Georgi Jovicic for a 1-0 score at the break.

Midfielder Milan Mitrovic made it 2-0 at 39 minutes and forward Luka Bojic completed the scoring for Serbian White Eagles at the 51st minute mark, a 3-0 final score.

Serbian White Eagles improve to a 4-3-3 record for 15 points, tied for fourth position with Hamilton City in the standings, while Brantford Galaxy remain in eighth position with a 1-6-1 record.

FC Vorkuta took a clear lead at the top of the CSL First Division following a decisive 5-1 victory over Real Mississauga in a well-played, entertaining encounter Friday night.

Vorkuta jumped into a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the match at the Hershey Centre when Serhii Ursulenko took a 40 yard diagonal pass from Vadym Gostiev on the chest to drive the ball into the far corner well out of the reach of Mississauga goalkeeper Senad Poracanin.

The visitors increased the lead when Ursulenko moved the ball to Iaroslav Solonynko on the far post and the midfielder found the net for a 2-0 score at the 23 minute mark.

Forward Sergii Ivliev gave Vorkuta a 3-0 lead at 29 minutes after closing in on Poracanin to chip the ball over the Real Mississauga goalkeeper into the far corner. It was 3-0 at the interval.

Real Mississauga’s Desislav Desislavov reduced Vorkuta’s lead to 3-1 at 69 minutes, a powerful volley into the roof of the net which left Vorkuta goalkeeper Oleksandr Musiienko with no chance for the save.

Vorkuta defender Volodymyr Bidlovskyi struck a picture goal from a free kick just outside the box at the 80th minute, his rising curling drive went over the wall, high and inside the right post and well out of the reach of goalkeeper Poracinin, a 4-1 lead.

Vorkuta went ahead 5-1 at 87 minutes when midfielder Valerii Yarmosh playing his first game took a pass from Valerii Doroshenko, also in his opening CSL game, to find the net from 8 yards and the score held to the final whistle.

FC Vorkuta now has a 8-1-2 WLT record for 26 points, three points clear of FC Ukraine, while Real Mississauga remain in sixth position in the standings with a 2-5-2 record for 8 points following Friday’s defeat.

There are two CSL First Division matches Sunday when SC Waterloo travels to Scarborough SC for a match with the east Toronto team at Birchmount Stadium, an 8 pm kickoff and Brantford Galaxy are at home at the Heritage Field against Serbian White Eagles, an 8.30 pm kickoff.

In the CSL Second Division on Saturday, Brantford Galaxy B is at home at the Kiwanis Field to Serbian White Eagles B, that’s a 4 pm start, Halton United B is hosting FC Vorkuta B, an 8 pm kickoff at Norton Park, and on Sunday, Milton SC B is at home to Scarborough B at the Milton Sports Centre for a 7.30 pm kickoff.

THE LONGSTANDING CSL CHAMPIONSHIP SET FOR OCTOBER 13

It’s been 93 years since the first CSL championship – then called the National Soccer League (NSL) championship – was played, a game won by Ulster United in 1926.

While name changes have taken place, the Canadian Soccer League (CSL), has had a perpetual existence, a league described by Canadian soccer historian Colin Jose in his book, ON-SIDE, as a Canadian league like no other, having been born out of turmoil in the tumultuous years of the 1920s and having stood the test of time.

This year’s CSL Championship will be played at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke on Saturday, October 13 at 3 pm, the Canadian Soccer League has announced.

Details were released this week, with the top eight teams in the First Division qualifying to enter the post season playoffs. The quarterfinals will kickoff Friday, September 28 through the weekend September 29, 30.

The semifinals will take place the weekend October 5,6 and 7.

The CSL Second Division championship game will also be played at Centennial Stadium on October 13 and will kickoff at 1 pm immediately prior to the league final at 3.
The top two teams at the end of the Second Division regular season will gain a bye to the semifinals.

The Second Division quarterfinals, will be played September 28, 29, 30, and the semifinals will be played the weekend October 5,6,7.
In the Second Division Championship quarterfinals, team 3 in the final standings will play team 6 and team 4 will play team 5.

In the semifinals, the top team in the Second Division regular season will play the winner of teams 4 vs 5 and the runner-up will play the winner of teams 3 vs 6.

In both the CSL Championship and CSL Second Division Championship, the highest teams in the regular season standings will have home game advantage in all games leading up to the final.
Games tied at end of regulation time will play a 15-minutes each way extra time and if still tied, FIFA penalty kicks will be taken.

The race for the First Division title tightened even further with a 1-1 draw between FC Vorkuta and Scarborough SC Saturday night, while in one other match in the Canadian Soccer League, SC Waterloo scored late to defeat CSC Mississauga 1-0.

Scarborough struck early at Esther Shiner Stadium when Atif Hammud Ali tapped in a rebound in the second minute of the match for a 1-0 lead that held to the interval.

Vorkuta tied the game 1-1 at 67 minutes, a well-placed drive inside the far post by substitute midfielder Serhii Ursulenko who took a perfect one touch pass from Sergii Ivliev.

It was a well-played encounter in doubt until the final whistle. The result moves Vorkuta, with a 7-1-2 WLT record for 23 points into a tie for top spot with FC Ukraine United in the CSL First Division, while Scarborough are in third position in the standings with a 6-2-3 record for 21 points.

Defender Vladimir Zelenbaba struck the winner at 72 minutes for Waterloo following a close contest throughout at RIM Park. Zelenbaba’s drive from 20 yards was deflected, leaving CSC Mississauga goalkeeper Faris Efendic with little chance to make the save. It was 1-0 in favour of Waterloo at the final whistle.

Waterloo has a 4-2-1 record for 13 points in 7th position in the standings following the victory, while CSC Mississauga remains winless with a 0-8-2 record in ninth position.

There is one game in the CSL Second Division Sunday when Milton SC B travels to Lions Park for a game with Brantford Galaxy B, a 6 pm kickoff and the Canadian Soccer League First Division resumes with 4 games and the Second Division with 3 games during the weekend August 10.

A hat-trick by midfielder Sani Dey led Hamilton City to a 4-3 victory over Serbian White Eagles, and in one other game in the Canadian Soccer League Friday, FC Ukraine United struck a second half winner from the penalty spot to defeat Real Mississauga 2-1.

Serbian White Eagles went ahead 1-0 at 3 minutes, a goal by defender Radenko Kamberovic in the match at Centennial Stadium and 10 minutes later the home side went 2-up with a goal by forward Luka Bojic.

Hamilton City cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal at 24 minutes by Lucas Raposo who found the net past Serbian Eagles’ goalkeeper Goran Skaric and that was followed at 26 minutes by Dey’s first of three goals for Hamilton and it was 2-2 at the break.

Dey scored second at 75 minutes and completed his hat-trick at 89 minutes to increase his season tally to 9 goals while giving the visitors a 4-2 lead.

Serbian Eagles’ defender Branislav Vukomanovic beat Hamilton goalkeeper Stefan Avramovic at 92 minutes to cut the score to 4-3 in favour of Hamilton.
Hamilton City moves into fourth position in the standing with a 5-4-0 WLT record for 15 points, while Serbian White Eagles drop to fifth position with a 3-3-3 record for 12 points.

FC Ukraine United return to the top position in the standings with a 7-2-2 record for 23 points following the victory, while Real Mississauga have a 2-4-2 record for 8 points in sixth position.

There are two CSL First Division matches on Saturday with SC Waterloo at home to CSC Mississauga, a 6.30 pm kickoff at RIM Park and it’s FC Vorkuta vs Scarborough SC at Esther Shiner Stadium, a 7 pm kick off.

The holiday weekend schedule in both divisions

When Serbian White Eagles kickoff against Hamilton City at Centennial Stadium in Toronto’s west end Friday night the immediate vicinity, or perhaps a little beyond, will be well aware a soccer match is taking place.

That’s because the booming, familiar voice of Enio Perruzza will be heard announcing every player taking part and the important statistics and additional information the fans need to know in an event known for many decades as CSL pro soccer.

The game Friday night, August 3, 2018, is number 3,527 for Perruzza since his first time behind the microphone at an official CSL game involving Toronto Blizzard 32 years ago on August 3, 1986.

While the Canadian Soccer League has been Perruzza’s favourite league over the years, announcements and commentary have involved all levels of soccer in southern Ontario. From the academy game to top level professional soccer, from visiting teams such as Benfica from Portugal and Red Star Belgrade from Serbia, to the Italian National Military Team and the Mexican U-20 National Team – which saw many of the players move on to the World Cup – have all been announced locally by the Italian-born Perruzza.

There are dozens of important cup and championship matches, mostly in the CSL, but also 20 Ontario Cup semifinals and 18 finals.
Perruzza, 52, is back in fine voice for Friday’s match following heart by-pass surgery earlier this year. After calling a few warm-up games, the voice of CSL soccer moves into the second half of the season with the playoffs and key championship competition looming large in the coming weeks.

The Serbian White Eagles vs Hamilton City First Division game at Centennial Stadium Friday night, a 7 pm kickoff, starts the Civic Holiday weekend games and will be followed by Real Mississauga vs FC Ukraine United at the Hershey Centre, an 8.30 pm start on Friday. On Saturday it’s SC Waterloo vs CSC Mississauga, a 6.30 pm kickoff at RIM Park and FC Vorkuta vs Scarborough SC at Esther Shiner Stadium. That’s a 7 pm kickoff.

Anarqui Futebol & Amigos of Sao Paulo, Brazil’s most populous city and the world’s largest Portuguese-speaking community, plays in that city’s amateur championship and makes overseas tours to a number of countries, mostly in Europe and the African continent, a schedule they have been following for 11 years now.

This year, they have decided for the first time to take on teams in North America and will be playing against a CSL Selects side in the Toronto area this coming Tuesday, August 28.
The Brazilians will kickoff its tour with one game in Toronto, followed by games at Montreal and Quebec City, then Orlando, Florida.

The St. Joan of Arc Stadium at Maple, just north of Toronto, will stage the Toronto area match, kickoff time to be announced.

Clayton Nogueira is head coach of the Anarqui side, which has released its roster for the North American tour: André Rocha, José Amaro, Cesar Luiz, Francisco Coelho, Mauricio Correa, Dair Ferraz, Adahir Fogaça, Carlos Jordão, Luiz Moraes, Luis Amaro, Marcos Arnaldo, Marcos Guzzo, Nestor Barbosa, Antonio Neto, Ronaldo Paiva, Silvio Cesar, Sergio Terreri, Wilson Rodrigues.

SCARBOROUGH HELD TO 1-1 DRAW SUNDAY BY VISITING REAL MISSISSAUGA

Real Mississauga held Scarborough to a 1-1 draw in the only First Division match played in the Canadian Soccer League Sunday.

The visiting Mississauga side opened the scoring at 30 minutes of the game played at Birchmount Stadium in Scarborough when Real Mississauga defender Edmond Badal drove the ball into the corner of the net with Scarborough goalkeeper John Trye well beaten. It was 1-0 at the interval.

There were close calls on the Real Mississauga goal with Scarborough’s Aleksander Stojiljkovic and Kiril Dimitrov striking the woodwork, but it was newly signed midfielder Zoran Knezevic who found the net past Real Mississauga goalkeeper Senad Poracanin, the equalizer coming at the 55th minute mark.

Scarborough continued to press in the late stages, but the score held 1-1 at the final whistle.

The result completed a two-game weekend for Real Mississauga following a 1-0 victory over Serbian White Eagles on Friday night, the Mississauga team now has a 2-3-2WLT record for 8 points in sixth position in the standings, while Scarborough has a 6-2-2 record for 20 points and tied for second position with FC Ukraine United.

Real Mississauga is at home to Ukraine United in the next games for both teams, to be played at the Hershey Centre, Mississauga, on Friday, August 3, an 8.30 pm kickoff. Scarborough’s next match is away to Vorkuta FC the following night on Saturday, August 4, a 7 pm kickoff at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York.

REAL MISSISSAUGA UPSETS SERBIAN EAGLES 1-0

Hamilton City striker Tim Zakrajsek led his team with four goals to a 9-0 drubbing of CSC Mississauga, and in one other game Friday night, an own goal by a Serbian White Eagles defender late In the game gave Real Mississauga a 1-0 victory.

In a game that ended in a downpour at Iceland Field in Mississauga, the visitors struck early when midfielder Krista Glasanovic found the net past Mississauga goalkeeper Fans Efendic almost immediately following the kickoff.
Zakrajsek made it 2-0 with his first goal at the 4th minute mark and added his second for a 3-0 Hamilton lead at 15 minutes. Zakrajsek completed his hat-trick at 33 minutes for a 4-0 score and scored his fourth goal at the 50th minute mark.

Hamilton forward Sani Dey also scored three and a second goal by Glasanovic completed the scoring for a 9-0 result at the final whistle.
The win improved Hamilton City’s record to 4-4-0 WLT for 12 points, tied for 4th position in the standings with Serbian White Eagles, while CSC Mississauga are still winless with a 0-7-2 record in 9th position.

CSC Mississauga team manager Shawn Bhikhu explained his team is not discouraged by the winless streak in its inaugural year in semi-professional soccer.

“ The CSL is a tough league, very competitive, but most of our players from the Hamilton area are stepping up, getting used to it and gaining confidence. And there is still time remaining in the season to get results,” he said near the end of the match.

A fumble in the Serbian White Eagles goalmouth at 81 minutes broke a scoreless tie with Real Mississauga at the Hershey Center. Serbian Eagles defender Branislav Vukomanovic attempted a pass back which eluded goalkeeper Nemanja Radenkovic and the ball entered the net for an own goal giving the home side Real Mississauga a 1-0 victory.

It was a close contest throughout with Real Mississauga coming close to scoring in the first half.
The win gives Real Mississauga a 2-3-1 record for 7 points and a leap to sixth position in the standings, while Serbian White Eagles have a 3-2-3 record for 12 points and remain in fourth position in the table.

Real Mississauga will be playing a second game in a two-game weekend back-to-back by visiting Birchmount Stadium on Sunday for a match with Scarborough SC. Kickoff is 8 pm.

There are two matches in the CSL Second Division over the weekend, one on Saturday at 8 pm with Halton United B at home to Milton SC B at Norton Park and on Sunday it’s Brantford Galaxy B at home in Lions Park to Scarborough SC B, that’s a 6 pm kickoff.
