A well placed header by defender Zoran Pesic gave Serbian White Eagles a 2-1 home victory over SC Waterloo at Centennial Stadium in the only game played in the Canadian Soccer League Friday.
Pesic thumped the cross by Danilo Bakoc into the net past Waterloo goalkeeper Dalibor Ivanovic to break a 1-1 deadlock late in the game, giving Serbian Eagles their third win in four matches played to date.
The home side opened the scoring at 44 minutes on a penalty kick taken by Milos Scepanovic after midfielder Vladimir Strizovic was brought down in the penalty box. Referee Rami Arbaji pointed to the spot and Scepanovic drove the ball past Ivanovic for the 1-0 lead which held to the interval.
Waterloo defender Gregor Zugelj tied the game 1-1 at 64 minutes for the visitors, a free kick from 27 yards that entered the net off the crossbar, leaving Serbian White Eagles’ goalkeeper Goran Skaric little chance to make the save.
Pesic struck the winner at 85 minutes and the 2-1 Serbian Eagles’ lead held to the final whistle.
There are three remaining First Division games being played over the weekend and the CSL Second Division opens the new season with three games this coming week.
