SCARBOROUGH 3-1 VICTORY IN SEASON OPENER

Scarborough SC defeated CSC Mississauga 3-1 at Birchmount Stadium in the only game played in the Canadian Soccer League Sunday. It was the season opener for the east Toronto team and the second game of the season for CSC Mississauga following their 4-0 loss to SC Waterloo on May 19.

Recently signed Eduardo Jesus Gonzalez opened the scoring for Scarborough at 30 minutes with a free kick from 25 yards that beat CSC Mississauga goalkeeper Artan Zatifi. It was 1-0 at the break.

Player-coach, midfielder Zoran Rajovic increased the lead for the home side, driving the ball from inside the box and finding the net past Zatifi to make it 2-0 at the 70th minute mark.

Neven Radakovic struck the third goal for Scarborough, scoring from a rebound for a 3-0 lead at 78 minutes until Mississauga’s Morgan Copeland found the net past Scarborough goalkeeper John Trye at 86 minutes, a 3-1 score at the final whistle.

“It was a very good game, closer in the first half that the score suggests. We were pleased to kickoff the season on a winning note and expect to be bidding for the championship again this season after losing on penalty kicks in last year’s final,” said midfielder Kiril Dimitrov who also plays a part in management of the club.

Scarborough will be at home to SC Waterloo at Birchmount Stadium  on Sunday, June 2, an 8 pm kickoff, while CSC Mississauga will host FC Ukraine United on Friday, May 31 at the Hershey Centre, a 9 pm start.
