Toronto Croatia gained an important victory with a 2-1 defeat of Serbian White Eagles in the only game played in the CSL First Division Saturday night.
With both teams bidding for higher position near the top of the standings, Serbian White Eagles took the lead at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga on a goal by Timotej Zakrajsek at the 10 minute mark.
Toronto Croatia’s Sean Brown tied the game 1-1, beating Serbian Eagles’ goalkeeper Stefan Avramovic at 26 minutes, and Ivan Cutura scored the winner at 43 minutes for a 2-1 lead by the home side at half-time and the score at the final whistle. It was Cutura’s fifth goal of the season.
Serbian White Eagles were reduced to 10 men at 76 minutes when midfielder Thomas McLean was ejected.
Toronto Croatia now have a 5-3-1 WLT record for 16 points and tied with Burlington for second position in the standings, while Serbian White Eagles are at 4-4-1 for 13 points in fifth place.
There was one game in the CSL Second Division Saturday when Toronto Croatia B defeated Serbian White Eagles B, 5-0.
