FC Vorkuta, led by Iaroslav Solonynko with a hat-trick, dominated visiting Brantford Galaxy 6-0 at the Ontario Soccer Centre Saturday night.
Serhii Ursulenko opened the scoring for Vorkuta at the 3rd minute with a strong left foot drive off repeated rebounds following a cross by Vadym Gostiev which Brantford failed to clear.
Solonynko struck his first goal to give Vorkuta a 2-0 lead at 13 minutes, the goal coming off a low cross by Gostiev for an easy tap in at close range.
Solonynko increased the lead for Vorkuta at the 33rd minute mark, a low drive into the corner of the net for a 3-0 score at the break, and the Ukrainian-born midfielder completed his hat-trick after beating two Galaxy defenders for a 4-0 Vorkuta lead at the 53 minutes.
Vorkuta continued to press and substitute Dmytro Polyuhanych collected a pass from Serhii Ursulenko to find the net at 71 minutes for a 5-0 lead and this was followed 8 minutes later when Polyuhanych struck again after picking up the ball on the left wing to cut in for a powerful shot from 24 yards, a 6-0 score at the final whistle.
It’s the second win for the defending CSL champions Vorkuta following a 4-2 opening win over Kingsman on May 25 and it’s the second defeat for Brantford Galaxy following a 4-2 loss to Serbian White Eagles also on May 25.
