RICHARD WEST STRIKES WINNER FOR YORK REGION SHOOTERS

A winning goal by York Region Shooters striker Richard West gave his team its second win of the new season, a 2-1 result over home side Niagara United at Kalar Park in Niagara Falls, the only game in the CSL First Division Saturday.

It was West’s third goal of the season and came at the 72nd minute with the teams tied 1-1 and the visiting York Region team playing with 10 men following the ejection of  defender Marcello Capazzolo for Violent Conduct.

York Region forward Kadian Lecky opened the scoring at the 19th minute mark when he closed in to beat Niagara goalkeeper Jonathan Bruggeling for a 1-0 score at the break and Preston Corporal leveled the score for the home side when referee Alexis Vaughan ordered a penalty at 56 minutes following a shirt pulling incident.

Corporal drove the ball past York Region Shooters ‘keeper Adrian Ibanez from the penalty spot for a 1-1 tie and West won the game for the visitors 16 minutes later.
