MONTREAL IMPACT ACADEMY IN PLAYOFFS WITH 6-1 VICTORY…Niagara defeats SC Waterloo

Montreal Impact Academy became the sixth CSL First Division team to secure a playoff berth following their 6-1 rout of Brantford Galaxy at the Claude Robillard ground in Montreal Sunday afternoon, and in one other game in the CSL, Niagara United defeated SC Waterloo 3-2. Both of these teams remain on the fringes of a spot in the upcoming CSL Championship post regular season games.

 

It was Montreal Impact Academy’s fifth win in a row, while Brantford Galaxy have gone eight games without a win and it was a one-sided contest in Quebec with the academy side’s  Mircea Ilcu opening the scoring at 17 minutes after collecting a cross from Maxime Tissot.

 

 Wandrille Lefevre made it 2-0 for the home side at 57 minutes, Zakaria Messoudi increased the lead to 3-0 two minutes later and Ilci struck his second and Montreal’s fourth goal at the 60^th minute mark. Victor Ndiaye came on as a substitute to score at 71 and 87 minutes, while Shane Trembley scored Brantford’s lone goal at the 79^th minute mark, a 6-1 final score.

 

Montreal Impact Academy improve to 10-3-5 WLT for 35 points and fifth place in the standings, while Brantford Galaxy are at 8-11-1 for 25 points.

 

It was an important win for Niagara United at the St. David ground in Waterloo as both teams look for a playoff spot.

 

Waterloo took a 1-0 lead almost immediately following the kickoff on a goal by midfielder Drazen Vukovic, his 15^th of the season, but the visitors took the lead on goals by Rudy Pikzinski at 19 minutes and Derek Paterson at the 30th minute mark for a 2-1 Niagara lead at the break.

 

Niagara went 3-1 ahead on a goal by Lucas Folino at 47 minutes and Vukovic scored his second at 76 minutes for his 16th of the season.  Niagara’s 3-2 lead  held up to the final whistle.

 

Niagara remain in contention for a playoff spot with a 8-9-3 record for 27 points and SC Waterloo can still squeeze into the playoffs while they go into the last two regular season games with an 8-11-1 record for 25 points.

 

There was one game in the CSL Second Division Sunday, with St. Catharines Wolves B defeating Mississauga Eagles FC B by a 5-1 score.
