MALETIC HITS LATE WINNER FOR TORONTO CROATIA….SC Toronto and TFC Academy battle to scoreless tie, both games Friday night

Prolific striker Tihomir Maletic struck a late winner to give his team a 3-2 victory over Mississauga Eagles FC at the Hershey Centre and in one other game played in the CSL Friday night, SC Toronto and TFC Academy battled to a scoreless tie at Lamport Stadium in downtown Toronto.

 

Maletic drove the ball from 20 yards to beat Mississauga goalkeeper Matthew George at the 82^nd minute mark, the goal coming following a 2-2 score in a game that could have gone either way. Each time the current CSL champions went ahead, Mississauga came back to tie the game.

 

Toronto Croatia took the lead on a goal by midfielder Andelo Srzentic at 12 minutes. Srzentic tapped in a rebound from a missed penalty kick to give the visitors the 1-0 lead, but it took just three minutes for Mississauga’s Jose De Sousa to tie the game 1-1.

 

Midfielder Hayden Fitzwilliams put Croatia in front 2-1 when he headed the ball into the net from a free kick at 17 minutes and Eagles’ defender Shaun McDonald equalized 2-2 at 26 minutes, heading in off a corner kick  past Croatia goalkeeper Panagiotis Koumoulas.

 

There was little to choose between the two teams in the scoreless tie at Lamport Stadium, with most of the game played in the midfield and few scoring opportunities in an encounter that allowed SC Toronto to maintain their unbeaten early season record.

 

TFC goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo was called upon to make saves near the half-way mark and SC Toronto ‘keeper Scott Cliff played a solid game for the home side.
