MONTREAL IMPACT ACADEMY SECURE PLAYOFF SPOT WITH 2-1 VICTORY WHILE DEFENDING CHAMPIONS GALAXY GO DOWN IN WINDSOR

Current CSL champions Brantford Galaxy received a surprise set-back in their bid for a playoff berth, losing 4-1 in the hands of Windsor Stars at Windsor Stadium Saturday night, while in a game played earlier in the day, Montreal Impact Academy gained an important 2-1 win over Mississauga Eagles FC at the Saputo Stadium in Montreal.

 

Forward Aaron Byrd opened the scoring for Windsor Stars at the 13^th minute and increased the lead to 2-0 at the 35^th minute mark.

 

Midfielder Nenad Begovic reduced the lead to 2-1 with a goal for the Galaxy at the 54 minutes, but that was short-lived when one minute later at 55 minutes David Kadoic increased the home lead to 3-1, scoring on a breakaway.  Kadoic again beat Brantford goalkeeper Vladimir Markotic at 71 minutes when he found the net with a drive from 20 yards for a 4-1 score which remained to the final whistle.

 

Montreal Impact took the lead on a goal by Kevin Luarca at the 41^st minute mark, a 1-0 score in favour of the home side at the interval.

 

Mississauga forward Darragh Roe put the ball past Montreal goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau to equalize at 61 minutes and Chris-Michel Rumuri struck the winner for the Quebec side at the 63rd minute mark and the score remained to the final whistle.

 

The win clinches a playoff berth for Montreal Impact Academy, now involved in a three-way tie for fourth place in the standings. They join SC Toronto, Toronto Croatia, Capital City FC, York Region Shooters and Serbian White Eagles, with two spots still to be decided.

 

 With two games remaining in their regular season schedule (against Montreal Impact Academy and Capital City FC), Saturday’s defeat puts the defending CSL champions Brantford Galaxy in a difficult position to secure one of those two remaining berths. The remaining two positions are being pursued also by Mississauga Eagles FC, Brampton City Utd and TFC Academy.

 

Eight teams will enter into a home and away quarterfinals series, to get underway during October. There will be one game in each of the two semifinals and one game for the CSL Championship Final.
