CAPITAL CITY FC AND SC TORONTO STROLL TO EASY HOME WINS ON CANADA DAY

Capital City FC increased their unbeaten streak to eight games following a 5-0 easy victory over winless North York Astros in Ottawa Friday and this was followed by a second game in the CSL Canada Day when SC Toronto gained a 4-1 home win over the current CSL champions, Brantford Galaxy.

 

Capital City forward Sullivan Silva struck twice for the home side at the Terry Fox Stadium in Ottawa, he beat Astros’ goalkeeper Enea Perego at 22 minutes for his first and the opening goal after taking a pass from midfielder Emir Zrnic and it was Zrnic who increased the lead to 2-0 at 43 minutes with a header.

 

North York Astros were reduced to 10 men when midfielder Francisco Mendez was shown the red card at 25 minutes of the first half and the half ended 2-0.

 

The Ottawa side increased their lead to 3-0 when Silva scored from the penalty spot at 53 minutes, Akil Defreitas tapped home the fourth goal at 66 minutes and midfielder Collin Harrison rounded out the scoring to make it 5-0 at the 87^th minute mark.

 

SC Toronto also had the edge in their game at Lamport Stadium in Toronto and it was SC Toronto forward Jarek Whiteman who opened the scoring, he found the net at 20 minutes in a game televised live on Rogers.

 

Midfielder Sasa Vidovic scored an equalizer for Brantford at the 39^th minute mark, but Brennan McNicoll struck at 45 minutes for SC Toronto for a 2-1 lead at the interval.

 

Carlos Nogueira put SC Toronto ahead 3-1 shortly after the resumption and midfielder Alex Halis, selected for Canada’s U-17 squad, made it 4-1 when he beat Galaxy substitute goalkeeper Cam McKay at the 74^th minute mark for a 4-1 final score.
