DRAGOI HAT-TRICK GIVES WINDSOR STARS VICTORY … lifts border side into fourth place

A natural hat-trick by Windsor Stars forward Cristian Dragoi gave his side a 3-1 victory over Niagara United at Windsor Stadium, the only game played in the Canadian Soccer League Saturday night.


 


Dragoi opened the scoring just three minutes into the game, a drive from 12 yards that beat Niagara goalkeeper John DeLuca, but Niagara’s Mohammed Mohammed equalized from close range for a 1-1 score at the 37th minute mark.


 


Dragoi scored his second goal at 45 minutes to give the home side a 2-1 lead at the interval and completed his hat-trick at 69 minutes to give Windsor a 3-1 lead, a score that held to the final whistle.


 


Windsor Stars leaped into fourth position in the standing as a result of the victory, they now have a 3-2-1 WLT record for 10 points, while Niagara United are in 13th position with a 2-2-0 record and six points.

SERBIAN EAGLES REMAIN UNBEATEN, Mississauga Eagles win 3-0 and it’s a 2-2 tie at Cove Road

Serbian White Eagles remain unbeaten with a 2-0 defeat of SC Toronto, Mississauga Eagles FC scored a 3-0 home victory over Kingston FC and York Region Shooters scored a goal in added time to salvage a 2-2 tie with London City, three games in the CSL Friday night.

 

Serbian White Eagles and SC Toronto went into Friday night’s game at Centennial Stadium both unbeaten, so the victory for Serbian Eagles was an important one in a tough contest that saw the home side’s Viktor Anastasov open the scoring at 25 minutes with a low shot from 14 yards. It was 1-0 at the break.

 

Serbian White Eagles scored a second goal at 64 minutes with good play by Zoran Rajovic who fed a pass to forward Richard West to find the net from 5 yards.

 

Serbian White Eagles lost La Dweyne Anderson at 90 minutes when cautioned a second time in the game to be shown a red card by referee Richard Oliviera.

 

It was close in the early stages at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga until Mississauga Eagles FC centre back Thomas McLean headed in off a corner kick 32 minutes to put the home side in the lead and just six minutes later midfielder Matthew Macri made it 2-0, the score at half-time.

 

Jose Melo increased the lead to 3-0 at the 77th minute mark when he beat Kingston FC goalkeeper Keyan Cassis and while the visitors pressed to reduce the lead Mississauga Eagles FC were much in control for a 3-0 score at the final whistle.

 

London City took an early 1-0 lead at 11 minutes in their game with York Region Shooters at Cove Road, a goal from the penalty spot by defender Rade Novkovic who put the ball in the net off a rebound following a save by York Region goalkeeper Emanuelle Ameltonis.

 

Chris Thomas equalized for the Shooters at the 42nd minute mark and it was 1-1 at the break.

 

London City forward Boban Stojanovic put his side in a 2-1 lead at 60 minutes and just when it appeared London were heading for the win, Ryan Dummett struck for York Region at 91 minutes to level the score 2-2

UNBEATEN TEAMS CLASH….intense action in CSL games this weekend

Three of the four unbeaten teams coming together further intensifies the action in this weekend’s CSL First Division schedule which includes Serbian White Eagles at home at Centennial Stadium to SC Toronto on Friday and Serbian Eagles back in action at the same ground against old rivals Toronto Croatia on Sunday night.

SC WATERLOO RETURN TO WINNING FORM WITH 4-0 VICTORY WEDNESDAY

SC Waterloo returned to winning form with a 4-0 victory over the struggling St. Catharines Wolves at Club Roma, the only game played in the Canadian Soccer League Wednesday night.


 


The visitors went into Wednesday’s game following three defeats and without defender Zoran Kukic serving the first of a two-game suspension after being sent off in Montreal last Saturday, but midfielder Drazen Vukovic put the visitors ahead when he scored the first of two goals at 19 minutes – he drove the ball from 35 yards past St. Catharines goalkeeper Claudio Perri.


 


Waterloo’s Shawn Brown made it 2-0 for the visitors when he caught the ball from the right wing to find the net at the 34th minute mark and it was 2-0 score at the break.


 


St. Catharines found themselves down to 10 men at 55 minutes when James Bond was shown the red card by referee Scott Decker for a foul ruled the be serious foul play.


 


Vukovic struck his second and the third goal for Waterloo at 65 minutes and that was followed by a goal scored by Adis Hasecic who made it 4-0 at 84 minutes. Hasecic took advantage of the St. Catharines defence failing to clear their lines and the 4-0 score remained to the final whistle.


 


Games resume in the CSL First Division Friday night when Kingston FC visit the Hershey Centre in Mississauga for a clash with Mississauga Eagles FC, London City are at home at Cove Road  to York Region Shooters, both games kickoff at 8 30 pm and Serbian White Eagles host SC Toronto at Centennial Stadium in Toronto’s west end, that kicks off at 9.


 


In the CSL Second Division, Brantford Galaxy B are at home at Lions Park to Serbian White Eagles B on Thursday night, that’s an 8.30 pm start, and on Friday night TFC Academy II host Brampton City Utd B at Downsview Park, that starts at 8 pm.


 


 


 


 


 

MALETIC HITS LATE WINNER FOR TORONTO CROATIA….SC Toronto and TFC Academy battle to scoreless tie, both games Friday night

Prolific striker Tihomir Maletic struck a late winner to give his team a 3-2 victory over Mississauga Eagles FC at the Hershey Centre and in one other game played in the CSL Friday night, SC Toronto and TFC Academy battled to a scoreless tie at Lamport Stadium in downtown Toronto.

 

Maletic drove the ball from 20 yards to beat Mississauga goalkeeper Matthew George at the 82nd minute mark, the goal coming following a 2-2 score in a game that could have gone either way. Each time the current CSL champions went ahead, Mississauga came back to tie the game.

 

Toronto Croatia took the lead on a goal by midfielder Andelo Srzentic at 12 minutes. Srzentic tapped in a rebound from a missed penalty kick to give the visitors the 1-0 lead, but it took just three minutes for Mississauga’s Jose De Sousa to tie the game 1-1.

 

Midfielder Hayden Fitzwilliams put Croatia in front 2-1 when he headed the ball into the net from a free kick at 17 minutes and Eagles’ defender Shaun McDonald equalized 2-2 at 26 minutes, heading in off a corner kick  past Croatia goalkeeper Panagiotis Koumoulas.

 

There was little to choose between the two teams in the scoreless tie at Lamport Stadium, with most of the game played in the midfield and few scoring opportunities in an encounter that allowed SC Toronto to maintain their unbeaten early season record.

 

TFC goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo was called upon to make saves near the half-way mark and SC Toronto ‘keeper Scott Cliff played a solid game for the home side.

Four teams are unbeaten in the First Division of the Canadian Soccer League at the end of the first month of the regular season and three of these teams – the current CSL champions Toronto Croatia, Montreal Impact Academy and SC Toronto – will see action this coming weekend. The fourth unbeaten team, Serbian White Eagles, are idle until June 15 when they are at home to SC Toronto.


 


The weekend schedule includes a re-scheduled London City vs. Windsor Stars game from the postponement of June 1 when the ground at Cove Road in London was rendered unplayable following heavy rain – this game will be played on Saturday, June 9.  and there is a change in the original kickoff time of the North York Astros vs. Toronto Croatia clash, which will now go at 6 pm instead of the original 4.30 pm.


 


Similarly, in the Second Division there is a change in the kickoff time for the SC Toronto B vs. Serbian White Eagles B scheduled for Saturday, which is now a 6 pm start, a change from the original 4 pm kickoff.

GALAXY EARN 2-0 VICTORY OVER ST. CATHARINES WOLVES WEDNESDAY

A goal in each half for Brantford Galaxy earned a 2-0 victory over St. Catharines Wolves at Club Roma in St. Catharines, the only game in the Canadian Soccer League Wednesday night and the first mid-week encounter since the league kicked off its regular season May 5.


 


Brantford midfielder Chris Leko struck the opening goal at 26 minutes when he took a pass from Jacek (Jack) Przednowek to hit a low shot past St. Catharines goalkeeper Claudio Perri from close range, a 1-0 score at the break


 


It was Przednowek who scored the second Brantford goal after being set-up by forward Jeremy Shepherd. Przednowek found the net with a low shot from 15 yards at 63 minutes for a 2-0 score that was rarely threatened by the home side and as the game progressed to the final whistle, the outcome was never in doubt.


 


The Galaxy picked up their third win in five games to leap into the top half of the table, while St. Catharines have yet to pick-up a point with five defeats in as many games.


 


CSL games resume Friday with two games in the First Division when TFC Academy visit SC Toronto at Lamport Stadium and Mississauga Eagles FC are at home to league-leading and current CSL champions Toronto Croatia at the Hershey Centre, both games kickoff at 8 pm.


 

BRAMPTON, KINGSTON, MONTREAL ACADEMY AND LONDON SECURE SUNDAY VICTORIES

Brampton City Utd,  Montreal Impact Academy, Kingston FC and London City all registered wins in busy Canadian Soccer League action Sunday.


 


Montreal Impact striker Stefan Vukovic, scored for the third game in succession to give his side a 1-0 victory over TFC Academy at the St Jean de Vianney ground in Montreal. The goal was scored against his old club when at 48 minutes he found the net past TFC Academy goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo.


 


Montreal midfielder Zakaria Messoudi crossed the ball to Vukovic from the right wing and the prolific striker scored from 18 yards.


 


TFC fought back following the goal, but in the second half the Quebec side had a noticeable edge through to the final whistle.


 


Defender Zvonko Bakula put London City one-up at 32 minutes in the game against North York Astros at Esther Shiner Stadium,  a 1-0 lead at half-time and Kunle Fayehun tied the score 1-1 for the Astros two minutes into the second half.


 


London went ahead at 55 minutes on a goal by midfielder Nenad Begovic and Ranko Golijanin increased the lead for the visitors to 3-1 at 73 minutes, a strong drive from 20 yards into the roof of the net out of reach of North York goalkeeper  


Antal Toth.


 


Forward David Nagy reduced the lead for the Astros at 89 minutes, a 3-2 final score in favour of London City.


 


At Victoria Park, Brampton City Utd took control of their game with a goal at the 5th minute by David Velastagui. He collected a back header from Mark Jankovic to drive the ball into the top corner of the net well out of the reach of St. Catharines goalkeeper Claudio Perri.


 


The home side made it 2-0 at 41 minutes when Milos Scepanovic directed a pass from forward Judah Hernandez into the corner of the net – it was Scepanovic’s first goal in a Brampton uniform.


 


Brampton midfielder Andy Garcia increased the lead to 3-0 from a free kick at 51 minutes and at the 63rd minute Scepanovic scored his second and Brampton’s fourth with a curling shot into the top corner, a 4-0 final score.


 


Kingston FC nipped SC Waterloo 1-0 at the Seagram Stadium in Waterloo for their second win in a week following the 3-2 defeat of Brampton City Utd on May 27. Kingston defender Ryan McCurdy beat Waterloo goalkeeper Ryan Paumier for the goal at the 51st minute mark. He found the net after collecting a long clearance and the goal held up until the final whistle.

A number of late changes to the CSL schedule have been announced by the league office noon Sunday and in the first game played, Montreal Impact Academy forward Stefan Vukovic struck the only goal at 48 minutes to give the Quebec side a 1-0 victory over TFC Academy. 


 


There is a delay in the kickoff time of the Brampton City Utd vs. St. Catharines Wolves First Division match scheduled for Victoria Park in Brampton Sunday. The original 3 pm kickoff time has now been moved to 6 pm.


 


Additionally, the Brampton City Utd. B vs. York Region Shooters B Second Division match scheduled for Victoria Park, a 5.30 pm kickoff Sunday, has been postponed


 


 There was a switch of venue in Montreal for the clash between the two CSL academy teams. The Montreal


 


Impact Academy vs. TFC Academy game was moved to the St Jean de Vianney ground from the Claude Robillard Stadium


 


where the surface was affected by heavy rain. The home side won, 1-0.

EARLY GOAL ENOUGH TO GIVE SERBIAN WHITE EAGLES THE VICTORY….London City vs. Windsor Stars postponed

A goal in the opening minute of play was enough to earn Serbian White Eagles a 1-0 victory over York Region Shooters in the CSL Friday night, while the London City vs. Windsor Stars clash was washed out by heavy rains.


 


Serbian White Eagles’ forward Sasa Vukoje struck the lone goal shortly after the opening whistle at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke, he was on hand to pick up a save by Shooters’ goalkeeper Emanuelle Ameltonis to hit the ball against the crossbar into the net.


 


The play was started by forward Zoran Rajovic who moved the ball to the home side’s Richard West who beat two York Region defenders before shooting for Ameltonis to save. Vukoje scored from five yards and in a game raining from time to time in windy conditions neither side found the net through to the final whistle – a 1-0 win for Serbian White Eagles.


 


The rain was heavy also in southwestern Ontario, causing too much water on the playing surface at Cove Road in London and the London City vs. Windsor Stars match was called off.

The CSL First Division game London City vs. Windsor Stars scheduled for 8.30 pm Friday has been postponed due to an accumulation of water on the playing surface at Cove Road in London.


 


Steady rain has fallen in southern Ontario and southwestern Ontario overnight and the game at London was called off at 3 pm Friday afternoon.


 


There are two remaining games to be played Friday night – at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke where Serbian White Eagles are at home to York Region Shooters and at Downsview Park in North York where the TFC Academy second team is at home to SC Toronto B.  Both games are on the synthetic surface and are expected to be played.
