Midfielder Adam Leggett made it 2-0 just two minutes later with a hard drive from 25 yards that caught the top right corner, and nine minutes later Leggett scored a second goal with an individual effort up the right wing before hitting the top of the net for a 3-0 Galaxy lead.

Brantford midfielder Marco Machado took a pass from Dave Simpson to score the fourth goal for the home side at 83 minutes, a 4-0 result at the final whistle.

A goal at 21 minutes of the first half gave St. Catharines Wolves their first victory of the season, the goal coming from a free kick which midfielder Scott MacLennan collected to find the net and give the home side the lead.

SC Waterloo managed to pull back a 2-0 first half deficit to trail 2-1 late in the first half, then collapsed under a five goal scoring spree by Brantford Galaxy to go down 7-1 at their home ground Seagram Stadium in Waterloo.

Galaxy forward Jeremy Shepherd opened the scoring at 23 minutes, Christopher Leko made in 2-0 at 34 minutes, Waterloo midfielder Harris Fazlagic cut the lead to 2-1 at 35 minutes and Leko made it 3-1 for Brantford at 39 minutes, the score at half-time.

Ryan James opened the scoring for TFC Academy at the 15th minute mark at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York, he drove a low shot from 15 yards to beat North York Astros goalkeeper Enea Perego.  Sergo Camargo then made it 2-0 at 36 minutes.

TFC were reduced to 10 men when at 75 minutes referee Hassan Rifai showed the red card to Christopher Mennella for ‘serious foul play’ following a dangerous tackle.

The Astros pressed during the second half, but were unable to find the net and it was 2-0 when time ran out with the North York side still winless following their sixth game of the campaign.

York Region Shooters were full value for their 2-1 away victory at Windsor Stadium, they took a 2-0 lead at half-time on goals by Chris Thomas at the half-hour mark and Matthew O’Connor seven minutes later.

Referee Arthur Kobiel dismissed O’Connor and Stephen Ademolu of Windsor Stars at 45 minutes, both players shown the red card following an altercation.

Windsor reduced the lead at the 70th minute mark on a goal by Joel Kabula, but the home side failed to find the net in the late stages and the game ended 2-1 in favour of York Region.

Guzman drive was low from inside the box to beat London goalkeeper Vladimir Markotic.

The Toronto Croatia vs. Serbian White Eagles clash at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke failed to produce any goals, leaving both teams still undefeated.

There was good midfield play throughout and Antonio Ilic in goal for the current CSL champions and Serbian Eagles goalkeeper Milos Dirkovic both looked sound to preserve a scoreless tie.

MISSISSAUGA EAGLES RESERVES OUTLAST BRAMPTON FOR SECOND DIVISION TITLE

It was Second Division soccer – but a first class effort.

Two CSL reserve teams, Brampton City Utd B and Mississauga Eagles FC  B, put on a fast-paced, exciting CSL Second Division Championship match that seemed to say let’s go for it, there’s no tomorrow – this is it.

In the end, after 90 minutes plus 30 minutes of extra time and penalty kicks, Mississauga hoisted the trophy following the 1-1 tie and a 5-3 count on penalties.

Brampton ended their regular season in second place in the east and Mississauga ended second in the west. Both have similar views on what reserve team soccer in a professional league is all about. They both create an environment within their clubs that while winning is an important ingredient, it’s developing the players that really counts.

Mike DiMatteo, Brampton’s reserve team manager and one of the principal owners of the club, says his club signs players to the reserve team that show promise – they have that bit extra. “But we then move them up to the first team as quickly as possible. In fact, we have probably played more second team players in our First Division side this season than any other club in the CSL,” he said.

Erin Mills Soccer Club, with its 5,000 young players, 1,000 volunteers and 7,000 voting members has been the pride of Mississauga for some years and president Susan Rossiter believes many of her young players can be developed into very good players by following a path that takes players from the youth level to the reserve team on to the club’s professional side in the CSL First Division and in some cases, beyond.

“It’s a step by step, cradle to grave routine that creates a environment for promising players to move up within the club and our reserve team is an important level at which they can play before moving on to the First Division,” she explained.

The game, played at the St. Joan of Arc ground at Maple, just north of Toronto,  was mostly end-to-end soccer, playing the long ball and that brought numerous opportunities to score.

A combined effort at 33 minutes by Mississauga midfielders Jose Melo and Darragh Roe, with forward Omar Nakeeb, almost produced the desired result, but an unkind bounce went just wide at 33 minutes.

Brampton midfielder Jonathan Singh was one of several players to hit the woodwork, while Devon Boyer, Yousif Walied and Avian Singh all came close to scoring.

Both goalkeepers, Luca Leone for Brampton and Christopher Prouting for Mississauga played a big part in regular time arriving with the game scoreless and the extra 15 minutes each way brought even more of a game worth watching.

At 14 minutes of extra time, referee Benjamin Jacobs pointed to the penalty spot for a hand ball in the box by Brampton Utd and it was Mississauga’s Jose Mello who stepped up to score.

Brampton suffered another setback when David Ferreira was shown a second yellow card for dissent just before the penalty kick was taken and he was ordered off.

At 3 minutes of the second overtime period, Mississauga were judged also to have handled the ball inside the 18 yard line and Ardit Xhameni struck for Brampton to tie the score 1-1.

The 1-1 tie held until the end of extra time and a 5-3 score on penalty kicks gave Mississauga the victory and a championship trophy in its inaugural season in professional soccer.

BRAMPTON ON WINNING NOTE JUMP TO FAVOURED FOURTH POSITION IN STANDINGS

Brampton City Utd ended their regular season on a winning note with a 3-0 victory over York Region Shooters Wednesday night and in doing so moved into the fourth position in the First Division standings for a home advantage if the team advances to the semifinals in the upcoming CSL Championship playoffs.

Midfielder Andy Garcia led his team with two goals at Victoria Park in Brampton, the opener at 42 minutes when he drove the ball from outside the box  into the top left corner out of reach of York Region goalkeeper Adam Majer — a 1-0 lead at the interval — and the second at 60 minutes when he picked up from a defensive lapse to score from nine yards.

Kevin Omokhua sealed the win with a goal at 77 minutes, a goalmouth scramble which Shooters failed to clear and the Brampton forward promptly put the ball into the net.

The win elevated Brampton with a 15-8-3 record for 48 points and dropped York Region Shooters to eighth position with a 12-8-6 end-of-regular-season record for 42 points.

Brampton City Utd move into the first stage of the playoffs with the first-leg of a two- game home and away quarterfinal game against Serbian White Eagles at Centennial Park on Saturday, October 8, while York Region Shooters will be at home in their first leg, taking on SC Toronto, the First Division winners.

Hayden Fitzwilliams led Toronto Croatia to their eighth win of the season with two goals at Centennial Stadium, he opened the scoring at the 34th minute after collecting a pass from the right wing to poke the ball just inside the post from close range and Fitzwilliams made it 2-0  with a left foot drive to beat Mississauga goalkeeper Melford James Jr at 87 minutes.

Toronto Croatia midfielder Alex Arbelo made it 3-0 for the home side at 93 minutes, a well-placed free kick from just outside the 18 yard line, the ball going in off the post.

Brampton City Utd won their eighth game of the season following a scoreless first half at Lamport Stadium in Toronto and it was the Academy team that went ahead on a penalty kick by striker Stefan Vukovic at 49 minutes, a penalty called by referee Gianni Facchini from a tripping incident just inside the box. It was Vukovic’s 13th goal of the season.

Brampton scored four goals in succession and it all started when defender Nathan Kelsey of TFC Academy was shown the red card at 75 minutes by referee Facchini for denying an opponent an obvious goalscoring opportunity. Brampton forward Richard West scored from the spot to tie the score 1-1 and it was West’s 11th goal of the season.

Forward Jeremy Shepherd put Brampton in front 2-1 at 87 minutes, two minutes later West scored his second goal and his 12th of the season to make it 3-1 and David Velastegui made it 4-1 for Brampton at 93 minutes, a 4-1 final score.
