SC TORONTO WIDEN THE MARGIN WHILE SERBIAN EAGLES AND LONDON CITY ALSO WIN FRIDAY

An emphatic 5-1 victory by SC Toronto over St. Catharines Wolves keeps the Toronto side in a strong position for the First Division title, while Serbian White Eagles defeated TFC Academy 1-0 and in one other game in the CSL Friday, London City picked up their second win of the season, a 2-0 result over North York Astros.


 


Forward Alon Badat put SC Toronto into the lead over St. Catharines Wolves at Lamport Stadium, a goal from close range  past St. Catharines ‘keeper Claudio Perri and five minutes later Carlos Nogueira made it 2-0 for the home side.


 


At 31 minutes forward Massimo Mirabelli increased the lead to 3-0, but this was followed at 43 minutes by a goal from the visitors when Matthew Contino found the net past SC Toronto goalkeeper Scott Cliff and it was 3-1 at half-time.


 


Forward Alexandros Halis struck twice for SC Toronto with goals at 90 minutes and 95 minutes, last goal with a rebound from Perri to push into the net.


 


The win increases SC Toronto’s lead in the First Division to seven points over Toronto Croatia and the league leaders have a game in hand.


 


Serbian White Eagles earned an important three points with their 1-0 victory over TFC Academy to stay on the fringes of a playoff position in eighth place.


 


It was a well-played scoreless first half, then midfielder Darryl Gomez found the net early in the second half to give the home side the win at Centennial Stadium.


 


London City were full marks for their 2-0 defeat of still winless North York Astros in the game at the Cove in London, with Rogers Television reporting 13 scoring opportunities for the City in the first half.


 


Forward Younan Samra hit the post in another attempt for London at 53 minutes, but three minutes later the home side found the net when midfielder Ermal Murataj scored from a goalmouth scramble.


 


Goalkeeper Enea Perego looked sound in the North York goal, but he was beaten a second time when Younan Samra’s persistence paid off with a goal at 63 minutes and the  2-0 score remained until the final whistle.


 


The Astros were playing with10 men for the last 12 minutes following the ejection of  defender Maxim Dorneval who was shown a red card by referee Yusri Rudolf for serious foul play.

SC TORONTO SEEK LEAGUE TITLE HONOURS WITH 3-0 WIN – Mississauga Eagles FC defeat London City 1-0

SC Toronto took a big step toward league title honours with a 3-0 victory over lowly North York Astros Sunday afternoon and in a later game Mississauga Eagles FC squeaked past London City by a 1-0 score. The third game in the CSL First Division, Brampton City Utd vs. York Region Shooters, was postponed due to ground conditions following heavy rains. 


 


SC Toronto forward Jarek Whiteman struck twice in his side’s defeat of the Astros, he opened the scoring by taking a rebound from three yards to put the ball in the net past Astros’ keeper Enea Perego and following a 1-0 score at the interval, increased the lead to 2-0 at 61 minutes with a drive from 18 yards.


 


Midfielder Dane Roberts made it 3-0 for SC Toronto at 87 minutes when he broke through to drive the ball inside the left post.


 


Mississauga Eagles FC had more of the play than the 1-0 result suggests when they improved their mid table position with a victory over London City at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga.


 


Forward Dave Simpson of the Eagles got the winner  when he found the left corner of the net from 6 yards at 63 minutes following a scoreless first half, a half during which the Mississauga team played with 10 men following the early ejection of  midfielder Ivan Juric for Serious Foul Play.


 


A third game scheduled for Sunday afternoon, Brampton City Utd vs York Region Shooters at Victoria Park in Brampton, was postponed at the ground following heavy early morning rains in the Toronto area.


 


 

CAPITAL CITY FC ON UNBEATEN STREAK WHILE MONTREAL ACADEMY DOWN YORK REGION SHOOTERS 3-1 SATURDAY.. Windsor battle London City to scoreless tie

Capital City FC are on a 4-game unbeaten streak with the  4-1 defeat of TFC Academy at the Terry Fox Facility in Ottawa Saturday and in two other games Montreal Impact Academy, playing with 10 men most of the second half scored a 3-1 victory over York Region Shooters. In a southwestern Ontario clash,  London City visited Windsor to hold the Stars to a scoreless tie before a good crowd at Windsor Stadium.

 

 Capital City FC forward Sullivan Silva opened the scoring for the home side when he found the net past TFC goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo at the 18th minute mark.

 

TFC striker Stefan Vukovic tied the game 1-1, scoring from the penalty spot after he was brought down in the box at 24 minutes, but Akil DeFreitas of Capital City put his side up 2-1 just four minutes later.

 

The Ottawa side’s William Beauge made it 3-1 just before the interval and there was one goal in the second half when Casey Condray headed home after the ball came off the crossbar – it all came from a corner kick at 58 minutes – the final score 4-1.

 

The eastern Ontario team now has a 5-1-1 WLT record for 16 points and will be bidding for the top position when they meet  York Region Shooters in Ottawa Sunday.

 

Forward Victor Ndiaye opened the scoring at the 17th minute mark for Montreal Impact Academy in the game with York Region Shooters at the Marie Victorin Stadium in Montreal and Des Humphrey equalized for the visitors at 42 minutes, a 1-1 tie at the interval.

 

Academy defender Kai Morton was ejected from the game on receiving a second caution at 58 minutes, but the 10-men home side continued to press, resulting in a goal at 69 minutes by midfielder Alessandro Riggi, a 2-1 lead for Montreal.

 

York Region Shooters lost midfielder Nicolas Martinez when he was shown a red card at 90 minutes and Riggi struck his second goal to make it 3-1 for Montreal Impact Academy in the closing minutes, the final score in favour of the Quebec side.

 

Windsor Stars and London City played to a scoreless, but well-played and well attended encounter at Windsor Stadium in the late game Saturday.

 

It was an even contest throughout with both teams missing chances to take the lead – Windsor forward Robbie Malbasic headed just wide in the first half and midfielder Christian Mayorga also came close. Thomas Beattie had a near miss which almost put London ahead mid-way through the second half, but his snap drive on the turn in the box was saved by Windsor ‘keeper Anthony Santilli.
