SC WATERLOO HELD TO A SCORELESS TIE BY IMPROVING ASTROS VASAS FC

Astros Vasas FC showed signs of turning their season around by holding SC Waterloo to a scoreless tie in the only game played in the CSL Friday night.
It was a well-played encounter at the Warrior Field in Waterloo with the home side on the fringes of the upper positions in the standings and Astros Vasas FS at the foot of the table with just one win in seven games played in the season so far.
Waterloo have a 3-2-2 WLT record for 11 points as a result of the tie, while Astros Vasas FC are now 1-6-1 for four points in the standings
There is one postponement in the Second Division this weekend – the SC Waterloo B vs Serbian White Eagles B game set for Saturday, has been called off due to wet ground conditions.
 
Astros Vasa FC can be seen on Rogers TV on Saturday, a tape delay of the Astros Vasas FC vs. York Region Shooters game played last Sunday, June 23. The tape delay can be seen on Saturday, June 29 at 8pm in Toronto – check your local listings in other regions of Ontario.

TORONTO CROATIA, YORK REGION SHOOTERS REGISTER OPENING WINS…..SC Waterloo and Niagara United tie 1-1

CSL champions Toronto Croatia continued their winning way with a narrow 3-2 defeat of Kingston FC, while York Region Shooters also opened their new season account with a 1-0  victory over Astros Vasas FC, and SC Waterloo played to a 1-1 tie with Niagara United, three games in the CSL First Division Sunday night. One other game scheduled, Burlington SC vs. Serbian White Eagles, was postponed due to ground conditions at Nelson Stadium in Burlington.


 


Kingston FC opened the scoring with a goal from Catalin Lichioiu at the 23rd minute mark at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke and Roberto Galle tied the score 1-1 for Toronto Croatia five minutes later.


 


Striker Tihomir Maletic put the home side in the lead at 31 minutes when he intercepted just outside the penalty box to move in and drive a low shot from 18 yards just inside the post and Maletic increased the Croatia lead to 3-1 at 41 minutes, beating Kingston goalkeeper Jaroslav Tesar from 10 yards. It was 3-1 at the break.


 


Nathan Klemencic struck for the visitors to reduce the Croatia lead to 3-2 at 59 minutes and Kingston’s Jason Massie came close to equalizing when he caught the goalpost with a last minute attempt on goal in added time with Croatia goalkeeper Anton Ilic well beaten. It was 3-2 at the final whistle.


 


It was looking like a scoreless tie at the St. Joan of Arc ground in Maple until York Region Shooters scored the only goal of the game at 91 minutes by Dino Gardener from a pass by Richard West. Gardiner hit the ball into the roof of the net, beating Astros Vasas goalkeeper Antal-Andras Toth with the hard drive from just outside the box.


 


Following a scoreless first half, midfielder Adis Hasecic  playing on the left wing for SC Waterloo, struck the opening goal from 20 yards, a drive that entered the net off the crossbar to put the home side one-up against Niagara United at Warrior Field in Waterloo.


 


Niagara struck back with a goal at 80 minutes from midfielder Jordi Amores who collected the rebound from a free kick to find the net and tie the game 1-1, a score that held until the final whistle.


 

MONTREAL ACADEMY, MISSISSAUGA EAGLES, SC WATERLOO ALL REGISTER LATE SEASON VICTORIES…..Shooters hold Toronto Croatia to scoreless tie

With only one position of the top four in the CSL standings decided – that of Toronto Croatia – the schedule for the quarterfinals rests on the outcome of the upcoming midweek clash between the academy teams of TFC and the Impact from Montreal.

 

That conclusion follows Sunday’s results that saw Montreal Impact Academy defeat SC Toronto, 1-0 and York Region Shooters hold Toronto Croatia to a scoreless tie. In the two other games, Mississauga Eagles FC pulled away from Brantford Galaxy 6-3, and SC Waterloo downed St. Catharines Wolves, 4-0.

 

SC Toronto travelled to Mont Royal, Quebec for their final game of the regular season, a clash with Montreal Impact Academy looking for an opportunity to take over second position in the CSL First Division standings.

 

The 1-0 defeat of SC Toronto by the Quebec side puts the Impact academy team in a position of taking the runner-up position if they can defeat TFC Academy on Wednesday, October 10.

 

Kai Morton struck the winner for Montreal Academy at the 30 minute mark in a chippy encounter that saw a player from each side ejected. Dominic Roberts of SC Toronto was the first to be shown a red card at the 70th minute mark and Wandrille Lefevre picked up two cautions to be shown a red five minutes later.

 

Montreal Impact Academy has a 13-3-5 WLT record for 44 points in third position in the standings, two points behind SC Toronto with a completed regular season record of 14-4-4 for 46 points. Both teams begin playoff competition the weekend October 12 – 14.

 

Mississauga Eagles FC outlasted the Galaxy 6-3 in the final game for both sides played at Lions Park in Brantford, with Anthony Smith scoring the opening goal for Mississauga at the 7th minute mark.

 

Nick Charles tied the game 1-1 for Brantford at 17 minutes, he put the ball past the Mississauga goalkeeper Antoine Paul from seven yards off a corner kick, but immediately after the restart Andrew Samuels regained the lead for Mississauga, taking the ball down the right side to score from 20 yards.

 

Simo Vrakela scored from 10 yards to tie the game 2-2 for the Galaxy, the goal coming at 25 minutes, before the visitors scored twice – Anthony Smith, his second at 39 minutes and midfielder Kunle Fayehun to make it 4-2 at the interval.

 

Mississauga’s Andrew Samuels increased the lead to 5-2 soon after the break, followed by a goal from Aleks Zwierzynski who drove the ball just under the crossbar for a 6-2 Mississauga lead,

 

Damion Scott scored from five yards for Brantford Galaxy at the 85th minute mark to complete the scoring, 6-3 in favour of Mississauga Eagles.

 

Mississauga Eagles FC complete their season with a 8-9-5 record for 29 points, while Brantford Galaxy finish with an 8-13-1 record for 25 points.

 

 Drazen Vukovic scored three goals in the 4-0 SC Waterloo victory over St. Catharines Wolves at Worrier Field in the University of Waterloo, to put the striker into the lead position in the CSL goalscoring title race that ends October 10.

 

Croatia-born Vukovic, who previously played for Brantford Galaxy and for several clubs in Europe including HNK Hajduk Split, scored at 9, 72 and 80 minutes for 20 goals in this season’s campaign. Mohammad-Ali Heydarpour struck the other SC Waterloo goal at 59 minutes.

 

SC Waterloo has a 10-11-1 record for 34 points and ninth place in the standings to just miss the playoffs in their inaugural CSL season, while St. Catharines Wolves completed their schedule with a 1-16-5 record for 8 points.

 

 In the late game Sunday night, Toronto Croatia were held to a scoreless tie by York Region Shooters at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke, a game that was played largely in the midfield with few opportunities for either side to find the net.

 

Toronto Croatia completed their regular season on top with a 15-1-6 record for 51 points, while York Region Shooters complete the regular season with a 9-2-11 record for 38 points and are presently in fifth position in the standings.

 

There is one game remaining in the CSL First Division – Montreal Impact Academy travel to Downsview Park on Wednesday, October 10, that’s an 8 pm kickoff.

 

The following eight teams have qualified for the First Division playoffs:

 

Toronto Croatia, SC Toronto, Montreal Impact Academy, Windsor Stars, York Region Shooters, TFC Academy, Serbian White Eagles and Niagara United.

The top four teams in the final standings will have the home advantage in the quarterfinal games yet to be announced.

 

 

MONTREAL IMPACT ACADEMY IN PLAYOFFS WITH 6-1 VICTORY…Niagara defeats SC Waterloo

Montreal Impact Academy became the sixth CSL First Division team to secure a playoff berth following their 6-1 rout of Brantford Galaxy at the Claude Robillard ground in Montreal Sunday afternoon, and in one other game in the CSL, Niagara United defeated SC Waterloo 3-2. Both of these teams remain on the fringes of a spot in the upcoming CSL Championship post regular season games.

 

It was Montreal Impact Academy’s fifth win in a row, while Brantford Galaxy have gone eight games without a win and it was a one-sided contest in Quebec with the academy side’s  Mircea Ilcu opening the scoring at 17 minutes after collecting a cross from Maxime Tissot.

 

 Wandrille Lefevre made it 2-0 for the home side at 57 minutes, Zakaria Messoudi increased the lead to 3-0 two minutes later and Ilci struck his second and Montreal’s fourth goal at the 60th minute mark. Victor Ndiaye came on as a substitute to score at 71 and 87 minutes, while Shane Trembley scored Brantford’s lone goal at the 79th minute mark, a 6-1 final score.

 

Montreal Impact Academy improve to 10-3-5 WLT for 35 points and fifth place in the standings, while Brantford Galaxy are at 8-11-1 for 25 points.

 

It was an important win for Niagara United at the St. David ground in Waterloo as both teams look for a playoff spot.

 

Waterloo took a 1-0 lead almost immediately following the kickoff on a goal by midfielder Drazen Vukovic, his 15th of the season, but the visitors took the lead on goals by Rudy Pikzinski at 19 minutes and Derek Paterson at the 30th minute mark for a 2-1 Niagara lead at the break.

 

Niagara went 3-1 ahead on a goal by Lucas Folino at 47 minutes and Vukovic scored his second at 76 minutes for his 16th of the season.  Niagara’s 3-2 lead  held up to the final whistle.

 

Niagara remain in contention for a playoff spot with a 8-9-3 record for 27 points and SC Waterloo can still squeeze into the playoffs while they go into the last two regular season games with an 8-11-1 record for 25 points.

WINDSOR STARS DEFEAT WATERLOO 3-1, TWO GAMES TIE…..Shooters, TFC and Windsor clinch playoff berths

Windsor Stars continued their relentless move up the standings with a 3-1 victory over SC Waterloo, Serbian White Eagles and TFC Academy fought to a 2-2 tie and in one other game played in the CSL Friday night, London City and Mississauga Eagles also tied 2-2.


 


Midfielder Wade Allen opened the scoring for Windsor Stars at Windsor Stadium, he found the net past Waterloo goalkeeper Imad Hakura at the 29th minute mark, but Waterloo tied 1-1 on a goal by forward Adis Hasecic six minutes later.


 


Midfielder Keith Lough put the home side ahead 2-1 at 75 minutes and Stephen Ademolu made it 3-1 for Windsor at 84 minutes, the final score.


 


Windsor Stars have secured a playoff berth as a result of Friday’s victory, which lifted the border team into a tie for third place with their improved 11-5-4 WTL record for 37 points.


 


TFC Academy opened the scoring at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke when Nikola Paunic scored at the 40th minute off a free kick taken on the edge of the box and it was 1-0 at half-time.


 


Midfielder Djordjije Strunjas equalized for Serbian White Eagles, he took a pass from Kirie Dimitrov find the net, a 1-1 score at the 49th minute mark.


 


Zoran Rajovic of Serbian White Eagles hit the post with a shot at 79 minutes, but found the net five minutes later to put the home side into a 2-1 lead.


 


TFC tied the score at 90 minutes, a goal by Mario Orestano – it was 2-2 at the final whistle.


 


TFC Academy now have a 10-4-5 record for 35 points and clinch a playoff spot, while Serbian White Eagles are at 8-7-5 for 29 points.


 


Laudelino Jose De Sousa opened the scoring for Mississauga Eagles FC in their game with London City at Cove Road in London, he struck at 14 minutes for a 1-0 lead at the break.


 


Boban Stojanovic tied the game 1-1 for London City at the 60th minute mark, but Thomas McLean made it 2-1 for the visitors five minutes later.


 


Zvonko Bakula tied the game for London City at 89 minutes, a volley that left Mississauga goalkeeper Varun Singh with no chance and the game ended 2-2.


 


London City improve to 6-8-7 with 25 points, while Mississauga are at 7-7-5 for 26 points.


 


York Region Shooters – idle tonight – together with TFC Academy and Windsor Stars have all secured playoff spots as a result of Friday’s results. They join Toronto Croatia and SC Toronto, leaving three more teams to make the top eight in the CSL Championship playoffs that get underway with the quarterfinals mid-October.

WINDSOR STARS, SERBIAN WHITE EAGLES SCORE SUNDAY WINS, SHOOTERS HELD TO A TIE BY WATERLOO….Richard West’s second hat-trick

Windsor Stars continued their good form with a 4-1 defeat of St. Catharines Wolves at Windsor Stadium, one of three games in the Canadian Soccer League Sunday. Serbian White Eagles defeated Brantford Galaxy by the same 4-1 score and York Region Shooters were held to a 1-1 tie by SC Waterloo.

 

Forward Michael Lapera opened the scoring with a goal for the border team at 30 minutes and Lepera scored a second to make it 2-0 seven minutes later, the score at half-time.

 

St. Catharines reduced the lead to 2-1 at the 55th minute mark with a goal by forward Carlo Arghittu who came on for the second half as a substitute, but Windsor extended their lead to 3-1, a goal by Keith Lough at the 60th minute mark. Arghittu missed a penalty for the visitors just two minutes earlier to scoring his goal, a save by Windsor ‘keeper Anthony Santilli.

 

Midfielder David Kadoic completed the scoring when he beat St. Catharines goalkeeper Claudio Perri at 81 minutes, a 4-1 final score.

 

Windsor are undefeated in seven straight games and have moved into a tie for fourth position in the standings with a 10-5-4 WLT record for 34 points, while St. Catharines Wolves have a 1-14-5 record for 8 points.

 

Richard West was again the centre of attention with a hat-trick that led Serbian White Eagles to their 4-1 victory over the Galaxy at Lions Park in Brantford, but it was Kirie Dimitrov who opened the scoring for Serbian White Eagles at just six minutes into the game when he drove a spectacular shot from 40 yards to put the ball just under the crossbar.

 

West made it 2-0 three minutes later when he headed in a cross from Zoran Rajovic, and Rojovic was instrumental in the third goal, also scored by West at the 20th minute mark, a 3-0 lead for Serbian Eagles at half-time.

 

Richard West again took a cross from Rajovic to find the net at the 53rd minute, a 4-0 lead in favour of the visitors, but the Galaxy scored a consolation goal at 67 minutes from a penalty awarded by referee Matt Arduni. Brantford’s Marco Machado was brought down in the box, the penalty by Sasa Jelovic was saved by Serbian Eagles goalkeeper Milos Durkovic, but Jelovic scored from the rebound, a 4-1 final score.

 

It’s a second hat-trick for Richard West after scoring three goals in the Serbian White Eagles 6-1 defeat of Niagara United on August 3, the Serbian Eagles forward now has 13 on the season.

 

Serbian White Eagles improve to 8-7-4 for 28 points in the standings, while Brantford Galaxy are still in a slump with a 8-10-1 record for 25 points.

 

Waterloo forward Zoran Kukic opened the scoring against York Region Shooters at the St. Joan of Arc ground in Maple, he found the net at the 11th minute mark.

 

Waterloo’s Shawn Brown was ejected at the 83rd minute after receiving a second caution and York Region’s Carlos Rivas Jr headed in the equalizer at 92 minutes for the 1-1 final score.

 

York Region Shooters are third in the standings following the tie, they now have a 9-1-10 record for 37 points, while SC Waterloo are at 8-9-1 for 25 points.

CROATIA, MONTREAL ACADEMY AND SC WATERLOO WIN SUNDAY….Drazen Vukovic hits hat-trick

Toronto Croatia extended their lead at the top of the First Division with a 2-0 victory over Brantford Galaxy, Montreal Impact Academy blanked Serbian White Eagles 1-0, league title contenders York Region Shooters and TFC Academy tied 1-1 and later in Sunday evening action in the CSL SC Waterloo romped 6-0 including a Drazen Vukovic hat-trick over North York Astros.

 

Following a scoreless first half during which Toronto Croatia had most of the play against Brantford Galaxy at Lions Park in Brantford, midfielder Boris Tomac came on as a substitute to open the scoring for the visitors at 69 minutes. Toronto Croatia defender Josip Bonacin headed the ball into the net from a corner past Galaxy goalkeeper Zoran Pusica at 91 minutes for a 2-0 score which remained to the final whistle.

 

Toronto Croatia increase their lead at the top of the First Division, they now have a 13-1-5 WLT record for 44 points, seven points clear of second place SC Toronto. Brantford are at 8-9-1 for the season for 25 points in 10th place.

 

Midfielder Wandrille Lefevre scored the only goal from a free kick in the 1-0 victory for Montreal Impact Academy over Serbian White Eagles at the Claude Robillard Sports Complex in Montreal, the prolific Lefevre found the net with a low drive from 20 yards past Serbian Eagles goalkeeper Milos Durkovic, the goal coming at the 55th minute mark.

 

The game was physical and chippy from time to time and Serbian White Eagles midfielder Ramon Bailey was shown the red card at 43 minutes for serious foul play.

 

Montreal are in 6th place in the standings following the win, they have a 8-3-5 record for 29 points, while Serbian White Eagles have a 7-7-4 record for 25 points.

 

TFC Academy went ahead 1-0 at the 83rd minute against York Region Shooters at the St. Joan of Arc ground in Maple, a goal by midfielder Joshua Janniere and just when it appeared the visitors were heading for a narrow victory, York Region`s Andre Rollins headed the ball into the net for a 1-1 tie.

 

York Region Shooters now have a 9-1-9 record for 36 points in third position following the tie, while TFC Academy are in fourth position with a 10-4-4 record for 34 points.

A late second half hat-trick by SC Waterloo attacking midfielder Drazen Vukovic sealed the victory for the home side against North York Astros at the St. David SS ground in Waterloo, he found the net at the 84, 86 and 89 minutes for his 15th of the season.

 

It was Adis Hasecic who opened the scoring for the Waterloo Region side, he found the net a just six minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead at half-time. Mirza Colic increased the lead to 2-0 at 50 minutes and Nemanja Simeunovic made it 3-0 10 minutes later before Vukovic scored his hat-trick.

 

Eric Batchanou of North York Astros was ejected at the 62nd minute.

 

SC Waterloo improve to 7-9-0 for 21 points over the season, while the Astros are at 2-15-1 for 7 points.

Toronto Croatia are back on top of the CSL First Division following their 3-0 win over London City, Montreal Impact Academy took charge following the interval to score five second half goals for a 5-0 victory over the Astros and SC Waterloo were full marks for their 2-0 triumph over Brampton, three games in the CSL Sunday.


 


London City suffered a set-back when Zvonko Bakula was shown the red card by referee Arthur Korbiel for violent conduct at 27 minutes and the first half ended without a goal at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke.


 


Midfielder Andelo Srzentic opened the scoring for Toronto Croatia at 58 minutes and Tihomir Maletic scored his 11th goal of the season to make it 2-0 at 73 minutes. Maletic took a cross from Dino Buljan to beat London keeper Vladimir Markotic from 6 yards.


 


Croatia’s Boris Tomac scored at 83 minutes for a 3-0 score that held until the final whistle.


 


Toronto Croatia move to the top of the First Division following the win, they now have a 10-1-5 record for 35 points, one point in front of SC Toronto. London City are at 5-7-6 for 21 points.


 


Following a scoreless first half at the St-Jean-Vianney Sports Complex in Quebec, Montreal Impact Academy defender Karl Ouimette opened the scoring at 47 minutes when North York goalkeeper Antal Toth saved a low free kick from 22 yards only to provide a rebound for Ouemette to tap into the open net.


 


Forward Charles Joly made it 2-0 at 62 minutes and five minutes later midfielder Maxim Tissot’s drive from 16 yards found the net out of Toth’s reach for a 3-0 lead.


 


The home side went further ahead 4-0 when forward Kevin Luarca drove a loose ball partially cleared by the Astros defence into the net at 78 minutes and Mercea Ilcu, returning to the academy side following an early season injury, rounded the scoring at 81 minutes for a 5-0 final score.


 


Montreal Impact Academy improve to 7-3-5 WLT for 23 points and sixth position in the First Division, while North York Astros have a 2-15-1 record for 7 points at the foot of the standings.


 


Following a well-played opening 40 minutes at Worrier Stadium in Waterloo during which SC Waterloo goalkeeper Imad Hukara was called upon to make key saves against Brampton City Utd, it was Waterloo that took the lead on a goal by midfielder Drazen Vukovic, his 12th of the season.


 


Adis Hasecic increased the lead to 2-0 early in the second half and the game ended 2-0 in favour of SC Waterloo.


SC Waterloo improve to 7-9-0 for 21 points, while Brampton City Utd are at 6-6-4 for 22 points.

A first half strike by Tihomir Maletic gave Toronto Croatia a 1-0 victory and top

position in an ever-changing CSL standings, while York Region Shooters cruised to an easy 6-2 win over Kingston FC and SC Waterloo slammed Brantford Galaxy 5-0, three games in the CSL First Division Sunday.

BRANTFORD, KINGSTON, WATERLOO WIN SUNDAY…Toronto Croatia held to 1-1 tie

TFC Academy and SC Toronto share the top position in the CSL following a 1-1 tie between Toronto Croatia and SC Toronto and in three other games played in the CSL First Division Sunday, SC Waterloo scored an emphatic 4-0 victory over Serbian White Eagles, Kingston FC overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat North York Astros 2-1 and Brantford Galaxy nipped Windsor Stars, 1-0.


 


The Toronto Croatia 1-1 tie with SC Toronto lived up to its billing in a hard, well-played encounter at Centennial Stadium, a game that was scoreless until Marin Vucemilovic Grgic found the net at 80 minutes. He took a pass from forward Tihomir Maletic while closing in and it turned out to be a tap in for the go-ahead goal.


 


SC Toronto were reduced to 10 men at a crucial time of 87 minutes when Garard Ladiyou was cautioned for a second time to be shown the red card and sent off.


 


Despite the disadvantage, the visitors fought back and were rewarded with a tying goal by forward Alon Badat who scored at 93 minutes after receiving a cross from the left wing.


 


SC Toronto improve to a 7-1-4 WLT record for 25 points and are tied for the top position with TFC Academy in the CSL First Division standings, while Toronto Croatia drop to third position with a 7-1-3 record for 24 points.


 


SC Waterloo had a field day in defeating Serbian White Eagles at the Seagram Stadium in Waterloo and it was Adis Hasecic who opened the scoring for the home side at 19 minutes and that was followed nine minutes later when Drazen Vukovic made it 2-0 and Slavisa Ubiparipovic increased the score to 3-0 at 39 minutes –  the score at the interval.


 


Vukovic added a second goal at 52 minutes for a 4-0 score, which held to the final whistle.


 


Midfielder Carlos Amorim opened the scoring for North York Astros at 37 minutes against Kingston FC at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York, the score at half-time.


 


Kingston forward Alex Campbell tied the game 1-1 at 52 minutes and Mademba Ba struck the winner from the penalty spot at 69 minutes following a pushing incident on Kingston’s Edgar Soglo inside the 18 yard line.


 


North York were reduced to 10 men when referee Scott Decker showed the red card to Davier Walcott at 72 minutes for serious foul play and the remainder of the game was scoreless to the final whistle, 2-1 in favour of Kingston FC.


 


A goal at 63 minutes by Brantford Galaxy midfielder Damion Scott was enough to earn his side three points in the game against Windsor Stars at Lions Park. Scott took a pass from Marco Machado to drive the ball from 20 yards into the bottom left corner past Windsor goalkeeper Anthony Santilli.


The goal broke open a game with few chances throughout, with Santilli and Galaxy’s Melford James Jr. both playing a solid game.


 


The win moved Brantford into a tie for third place in the standings, it was the Galaxy’s eighth win and they now have an 8-3-0 record for 24 points.

SC WATERLOO ENDS UNBEATEN RUN OF CURRENT CSL CHAMPS TORONTO CROATIA

A goal at 20 minutes of the first half by expansion club SC Waterloo put to an end the season-long unbeaten run of the current CSL champions Toronto Croatia, while two other games in the CSL Sunday ended in ties, a 4-4 score between York Region Shooters and Brampton City Utd and a 2-2 tie in the game between Montreal Impact Academy and Mississauga Eagles FC.

 

It was a left foot drive by Waterloo midfielder Drazen Vukovic that ended the Toronto Croatia streak at the Seagram Stadium in Waterloo and it ended the record of the last CSL First Division team to hold the distinction of being unbeaten during the current campaign. For the Waterloo Region side, the victory helped to make amends for the 6-1 loss in the hands of Toronto Croatia on May 27.

 

Toronto Croatia still hold to top position in the standings despite Sunday’s defeat, they have a 6-1-2 WLT  record for 20 points, while SC Waterloo improve to a 4-6-0, good for 12 points

 

Forward Alexander King put Montreal Impact Academy in front 1-0 at 39 minutes against Mississauga Eagles at the St Jean De Vianney ground in Montreal after taking a cross from Wandrille Lefevre. The home side went ahead 2-0 when Impact first team defender Calum Mallace playing his first game for the academy side, headed in out of reach of Mississauga goalkeeper Kofi Oppong. It was 2-0 at half-time.

 

A win for the academy team looked secure until Jose Melo headed in for Mississauga Eagles at the 87th minute mark and Thomas McLean scored the equalizer at 91 minutes for the 2-2 final score.

 

It was a ding-dong struggle between York Region Shooters and Brampton City Utd at the Joan of Arc ground in Maple where the visitors gained then lost the lead throughout the game, beginning with a goal at 23 minutes when forward Milos Scepanovic beat York Region goalkeeper Camilo Benzi for a 1-0 score. Alex Braletic made it 2-0 for Brampton at 37 minutes, but the lead was cancelled out by goals from York Region forward Jason De Thomasis at 38 minutes, then Alex Trujillo at 44 minutes for a 2-2 tie before York Region’s Andre Rollins put the home side ahead 3-2 at the break.

 

Scepanovic scored his second goal and Brampton’s third to tie the game 3-3 at 85 minutes, then Brampton edged into the lead 4-3 on a goal by David Velastagui three minutes later.  Andre Manders of York Region levelled the scores 4-4 shortly before the final whistle.

 

York Region Shooters played the last 28 minutes short handed after referee Justin Tasev showed the red card to Andre Stewart for violent conduct.

 

It is York Region Shooters sixth draw in 10 games, they now have a 3-1-6 record for 15 points, while Brampton City Utd have a 4-2-3 record, also 15 points.

With the CSL closing in on the half-way mark in the regular season, there is a full program of games throughout the coming weekend, including league-leading Toronto Croatia determined to remain the only unbeaten team in the First Division, while second place Montreal Impact Academy are equally determined to keep pace and bid for the top spot..


 


Montreal Impact Academy are at home to Miississauga Eagles FC at the St. Jean De Vianney ground on Sunday afternoon, while Toronto Croatia visits SC Waterloo for a game at the Seagram Stadium Sunday evening..
