Brampton City Utd took control early in the game with North York Astros at Victoria Park in Brampton and it was forward Alex Braletic who opened the scoring at 28 minutes and this was followed by a first of three goals by Milos Scepanovic 10 minutes later, a 2-0 Brampton lead at the interval.

Scepanovic found the net for the second time at 63 minutes for a 3-0 Brampton lead and forward Jean Tshimpaka made it 4-0 three minutes later.

Midfielder Adam Leggett made it 2-0 just two minutes later with a hard drive from 25 yards that caught the top right corner, and nine minutes later Leggett scored a second goal with an individual effort up the right wing before hitting the top of the net for a 3-0 Galaxy lead.

GALAXY EARN 2-0 VICTORY OVER ST. CATHARINES WOLVES WEDNESDAY

A goal in each half for Brantford Galaxy earned a 2-0 victory over St. Catharines Wolves at Club Roma in St. Catharines, the only game in the Canadian Soccer League Wednesday night and the first mid-week encounter since the league kicked off its regular season May 5.

MARCOS NUNES HAT-TRICK GIVES BRAMPTON VICTORY….Visitors overcome first half deficit

A second half hat-trick by Brampton City Utd striker Marcos Nunes lifted his side to a 3-1 away victory over St. Catharines Wolves at Club Roma in St. Catharines Wednesday night.

It was a second half blitz by the visitors to overcome a first half 1-0 deficit after Calvin Rosario of St. Catharines drove the ball into the net to the left of Brampton goalkeeper Camilo Benzi at the 26th minute mark, a score that held to the interval.

Brampton pressed for an equalizer early in the second half and at 52 minutes Nunes struck his first when he found the net from close range.

Nunes, 20, who plays also for Humber College and is considered one of the most promising young prospects in the region, beat St. Catharines ‘keeper Chris Kurdzeil at 84 minutes to put Brampton ahead 2-1 and he scored again five minutes later to complete the hat-trick. It was 3-1 at the final whistle in favour of the Toronto area team.

It was goals 7, 8 and 9 in the current campaign for Marcos Nunes to lift the Brampton native to second place in the CSL goalscoring race.

The win improves Brampton to a 5-1-0 WLT record for second place in the First Division standings, three points behind league leaders Kingston FC. It was the home opener for the Garden City team which now has a 1-2-0 record for three points and it was the first mid-week encounter in the 2013 season CSL schedule.

ST. CATHARINES WOLVES FULL MARKS FOR SEASON OPENER VICTORY..London City salvage late tie with Shooters

A goalmouth miscue by York Region Shooters at 93 minutes gave London City a 2-2 tie at the Hellenic Community Centre ground in London and in one other game played in the Canadian Soccer League Friday night, St. Catharines Roma Wolves handed the home side Serbian White Eagles a 3-1 defeat at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke.

It was a chippy affair in London where three players – two from the visiting Shooters and one from London City were shown the red card by referee Matt McCready for offences which included violent conduct.

Forward Aldin Kukic put London City into the lead at 37 minutes and Nicolas Martinez of York Region Shooters tied the score 1-1 at the 44th minute mark.

Richard West put the visitors in front at 83 minutes when he found the net past London goalkeeper Vladimir Markotic and York Region appeared to have the game won when in added time Shooters goalkeeper Adrian Ibanez was involved in a goalmouth collision. The mishap allowed London midfielder Gent Miftari to pick-up the loose ball and find the net from close range for a 2-2 tie.

The ejections, which left York Region Shooters with nine men, were Andre Stewart and Rickey Herron, while Marin Vucemilovic Grgic of London City was also ordered off.

St. Catharines Wolves were full marks for their first victory of the season in the Garden City’s season opener and it was Calvin Rosario of St. Catharines who opened the scoring at 42 minutes when he headed in a free kick. It was 1-0 at the break.

Antonio Stranges made it 2-0 three minutes into the second half following a breakaway and at the 70th minute a Serbian White Eagles home victory became more unlikely when Daniel Chamale was ordered off on receiving a second yellow card.

Niagara midfielder Rudy Pikzinski opened the scoring for the home side at 46 minutes following a scoreless first half. Pikzinski lifted the ball over the head of Brampton goalkeeper Euloge Awitor Kodzo and Braletic tied the game 1-1 with his first goal at the 62nd minute mark.

BRANTFORD GALAXY EDGE CLOSER TO PLAYOFF SPOT WHILE ST. CATHARINES ALSO WIN WEDNESDAY

Brantford Galaxy nudged closer to a playoff berth with a 3-2 victory over York Region Shooters, while St. Catharines Wolves with just a slim chance to make the top eight, defeated North York Astros 2-1, two games in the Canadian Soccer League Wednesday night.

The defending CSL champions struck early when forward Ranko Golijanin found the net after just two minutes at Lions Park in Brantford. The former FC Hercules of the Spanish first division striker collected a cross from Dalibor Mitrovic to make it 1-0.

Golijanin scored his second to make it 2-0 at 28 minutes, he took a pass from Sasa Vidovic to score from 15 yards. York Region Shooters reduced the lead to 2-1 when Kadian Leckie scored from the penalty spot at the 33rd minute mark, the score at half time.

Mitrovic found the net past Shooters’ goalkeeper Camilo Benzi at 53 minutes for a 3-1 Brantford lead and Rick Titus, the York Region defender cut the lead to 3-2 at 88 minutes when he took the ball on the right of goal to beat Brantford ‘keeper Vladimir Markotic and the 3-2 score held to the final whistle.

It was an important win for the Galaxy with an improved 9-10-3 WLT record for 30 points. With four games remaining in the regular season, the champions are in ninth position in the First Division standings – the top eight earn a playoff berth.

Matthew Contino with two goals sparked St. Catharines Wolves to their home victory over still winless North York Astros at the Club Roma ground in St. Catharines, he found the net at 26 minutes following a defensive slip by the visitors and scored his second at 72 minutes when he closed in to beat Astros goalkeeper Damon Naghavi.

The two goals followed an opening goal by North York Astros, an own-goal when St. Catharines defender Geoff Attard put the ball into his own net following a goalmouth scramble from a corner kick.

St. Catharines Scott MacLennan was shown the red card by referee Steve Senderovich who judged the midfielder committed Violent Conduct in an altercation with Francisco Mendez of the Astros. The ejection occurred at the 82nd minute mark and the game ended 2-1 in favour of the home side.

St. Catharines have 19 points from 21 games played with five games remaining.

ST. CATHARINES REBOUND 5-1

St. Catharines Wolves won their first three games of the season, then went into a serious slump to play 14 games without a victory until Wednesday night when the Garden City team returned to hit a visiting London City side 5-1 at Club Roma in St. Catharines, the only game in the Canadian Soccer League.

Calvin Rosario got the home side off to a flying start with a goal in the first minute of play when he collected a rebound off team-mate Matthew Contino to put the ball past London goalkeeper Fabian Knezevic.

Contino struck the second goal at the 27 minute mark, scoring off a cross by Marc Stenel to make it 2-0 and forward Dana Heimbecker made it 3-0 for St. Catharines at 39 minutes, the score at half-time.

London bounced back with a goal at 65 minutes by Eris Tafaj for a 3-1 score, but Contino found the net again when a scored from the penalty spot at 70 minutes. The penalty was called by referee Geoff Gamble, who judged  London ‘keeper Knezevic brought down the home side’s Scott McLennan inside the box.

Knezevic was shown a red card for ‘denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity’, which brought in substitute goalkeeper Scott Chalmers for the remainder of the game.

Chalmers was beaten by a strike by midfielder Tony Mermigas at 83 minutes for a 5-1 final score.

FRIDAY VICTORIES FOR BRAMPTON, CROATIA AND SHOOTERS WHILE ST.CATHARINES TIE 1-1 WITH MONTREAL

York Region Shooters defeated London City 3-1, Toronto Croatia blanked Mississauga Eagles FC 3-0, Brampton City Utd also won decisively, a 4-1 victory over TFC Academy and in a fourth game in the CSL Friday night, Montreal Impact Academy were held to a 1-1 tie by St. Catharines Wolves.

Forward Kadian Lecky was a big reason for York Region Shooters win over London City at Cove Road in London, he struck twice — 10th and 11th of the season – starting with the opening goal at eight minutes and a second at the 28 minute mark.

The 1-0 opening score by Lecky was following by a tying goal for London City from Elvir Gigolaj at 15 minutes. It was 2-1 at half-time.

Carlo Rivas made it 3-1 at the 47th minute mark and both sides had chances to add to the score during the second half — including a disallowed goal by London’s Thomas Beattie which was called back by the linesman – but the 3-1 score in favour of York Region held until the final whistle.

Hayden Fitzwilliams led Toronto Croatia to their eighth win of the season with two goals at Centennial Stadium, he opened the scoring at the 34th minute after collecting a pass from the right wing to poke the ball just inside the post from close range and Fitzwilliams made it 2-0  with a left foot drive to beat Mississauga goalkeeper Melford James Jr at 87 minutes.

Toronto Croatia midfielder Alex Arbelo made it 3-0 for the home side at 93 minutes, a well-placed free kick from just outside the 18 yard line, the ball going in off the post.

Brampton City Utd won their eighth game of the season following a scoreless first half at Lamport Stadium in Toronto and it was the Academy team that went ahead on a penalty kick by striker Stefan Vukovic at 49 minutes, a penalty called by referee Gianni Facchini from a tripping incident just inside the box. It was Vukovic’s 13th goal of the season.

Brampton scored four goals in succession and it all started when defender Nathan Kelsey of TFC Academy was shown the red card at 75 minutes by referee Facchini for denying an opponent an obvious goalscoring opportunity. Brampton forward Richard West scored from the spot to tie the score 1-1 and it was West’s 11th goal of the season.

Forward Jeremy Shepherd put Brampton in front 2-1 at 87 minutes, two minutes later West scored his second goal and his 12th of the season to make it 3-1 and David Velastegui made it 4-1 for Brampton at 93 minutes, a 4-1 final score.

Montreal Impact Academy midfielder Kevin Luarca-Echeverria scored the opening goal for a 1-0 lead over St. Catharines Wolves at Club Roma in St. Catharines, he drove it past St. Catharines ‘keeper Claudio Perri at the 14th minute mark.

Matthew Contino tied the score 1-1 from the penalty spot just three minutes later for St. Catharines, a penalty called by referee Richard Oliveira when defender Matthew Waddington was brought down inside the box.

VUKOVIC LIFTS TFC ACADEMY TO 5-1 VICTORY AT ST. CATHARINES

Two goals by the CSL First Division leading scorer Stefan Vukovic played an important part in lifting TFC Academy to a 5-1 victory over St. Catharines Wolves in the only game played in the Canadian Soccer League Wednesday night.

Following a well-played scoreless first half, Vukovic opened the scoring at the 49th minute mark and TFC midfielder Sergio Camargo made in 2-0 seven minutes later

Vukovic increased the lead to 3-0 at 61 minutes and Dimitri Omphroy scored a TFC Academy goal at the 69th minute mark, deflecting a free kick past St. Catharines goalkeeper James Draper for a 4-0 lead.

The goals for Vukovic were his 11th and 12th of the season.

Academy defender Joshua Gross scored a fifth goal for the visitors at 85 minutes, a 5-0 score and Gross put the ball past his own goalkeeper, Angelo Cavelluzzo, to score an OG for St. Catharines and it was 5-1 at the final whistle.

SCORELESS TIE GIVES CAPITAL CITY 11 UNDEFEATED WHILE GALAXY SCORE FIVE IN 30 MINUTES TO DEFEAT ST. CATHARINES WOLVES

Capital City FC  stretched their unbeaten string to 11 games with a scoreless tie against York Region Shooters, while in one other game played in the CSL Sunday, seven goals were scored in the second half when Brantford Galaxy defeated St. Catharines Wolves, 5-3. A third game, Toronto Croatia vs. TFC Academy was postponed at the ground.

It was an even, well-played contest between two teams bidding for the top position in the standings, but a temperature of 36 degrees at ground level may have played a part in a limp performance by both sides in front of goal at the St. Joan of Arc ground in Maple.

The scoreless tie between York Region Shooters and Capital City means the Shooters trail league-leading Montreal Impact Academy by one point and the Ottawa team is one point behind York Region. Capital City FC, with 12 games played, have two games in hand over the top two.

It was a contrast at Lions Park in Brantford where the Galaxy scored five goals in the last 30 minutes of play to defeat St. Catharines.

St. Catharines forward Aaron Vanvelzen opened the scoring with a goal at 29 minutes, he found the net past Galaxy goalkeeper Vladimir Markotic from 15 yards for a 1-0 score at half-time.

The Garden City side went ahead 2-0 at 50 minutes on a goal by Matthew Cain, but Brantford reduced the lead at the 63rd minute mark when Dalibor Mitrovic collected a clearance from his goalkeeper Markotic to score from 25 yards.

Brantford forward Ranko Golijanin evened the score at 2-2 just three minutes later and at 73 minutes referee Sylviu Petrescu pointed to the penalty spot when Golijanin was tripped in the box and Rade Novkovic found the net past Wolves’ goalkeeper Claudio Perri, a 3-2 Brantford lead.

Brantford’s Mitrovic scored his second goal when he picked up a rebound from an attempt by Nenad Begovic for a 4-2 score at 75 minutes.

Mississauga Eagles FC midfielder Ivan Juric led his side with two second half goals to a 4-0 victory over St. Catharines Wolves at Club Roma, the only game in the Canadian Soccer League Wednesday.

The Mississauga team, from the Erin Mills Soccer Club in that community, looked in command early with a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the game when midfielder Jose Melo beat St. Catharines goalkeeper Claudio Perri with a free kick from 19 yards.

Tristan Scott increased the lead to 2-0 at 14 minutes, a drive that appeared to take a deflection on its way past Perri into the net, a 2-0 score at half-time.

Juric struck his first goal at 62 minutes, a shot that entered the lower right corner of the net and the midfielder scored his second just three minutes later for a 4-0 score that held to the final whistle.

Mississauga Eagles improve to a 6-6-1 WLT record for 19 pts, still in fifth position but closer to being in contention for a top of the table opportunity over the next few games.
