The Canadian Soccer League has announced the venue for the 2012 CSL Championship Final, to take the form of a double-header attraction with the big game to be preceded by the championship match for the CSL Second Division.
The twin-bill will take place at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke on Saturday, October 27, with the Second Division championship at 12.30 pm to be followed by the CSL League Championship kickoff at 3 pm.
“We have received a lot of encouraging comments about the standard of play in our Second Division and we believe the Second Division title now deserves a higher profile than in the past,” explained CSL Administrator Pino Jazbec.
The CSL Second Division consists of reserve teams from 12 clubs playing in the league’s 16-team First Division.
The top eight teams in the standings in each of these divisions enter the playoffs, to consist of the quarterfinals, the semifinals and the final game.
The quarterfinals will begin October 12, the semifinals will start on October 19 and the two final games will be played on October 27.
The top four teams in each division will have the home game advantage that follows a format of the top team at home to the 8th team, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5.
Toronto Croatia won the 2011 CSL Championship, defeating Capital City of Ottawa 1-0 in the final, while Mississauga Eagles B are the current Second Division title holders having defeated Brampton City Utd B in the 2011 Second Division Final on penalty kicks following a 1-1 tie in regular play and overtime.
