MONTREAL IMPACT ACADEMY AND YORK REGION SHOOTERS TAKE TOP POSITIONS FOLLOWING WINS SATURDAY. TFC ACADEMY DOWN TORONTO CROATIA

Montreal Impact Academy and York Region Shooters both scored 2-0 victories to occupy the top two positions in the First Division standings and one other game in the CSL Saturday, TFC Academy were an improved team with the return of players from international duty,  they defeated Toronto Croatia by a 2-0 score.


 


Montreal Impact Academy are on a nine-game unbeaten streak since May 13 and kept up their success with a 2-0 victory over London City at the Saputo Stadium in Montreal.


 


 Following a scoreless tie at the interval, the Quebec side went ahead on a goal by midfielder Zakaria Messoudi at 48 minutes, then took a 2-0 lead at 80 minutes when forward Victor Ndiaye beat London ‘keeper Fabian Knezevic from the penalty spot. The score carried to the final whistle.


 


York Region Shooters kept pace in the standings with their away win at Windsor and it was striker Kadian Lecky who found the net on both occasions. Lecky struck at 21 minutes when he directed a cross from the left wing into the net past Anthony Santilli in the Windsor goal for his eighth of the season.


 


Lecky scored his ninth at 41 minutes for a 2-0 score at halftime and at the final whistle. York Region Shooters lost defender Marcelo Capazolo who was shown the red card by referee Arthur Korbeil at the 89th minute mark.


 


TFC Academy looked a much improved side following a series of losses to defeat a Toronto Croatia side returning from their Croatian World Club Championship trophy win last week.


 


Striker Stefan Vukovic opened the scoring for TFC at 35 minutes, his ninth of the season and it came on a penalty kick rebound before finishing up in the net. TFC were awarded a penalty by referee Steve Senderovich when Vukovic was brought down in the box by Toronto Croatia goalkeeper Antonio Ilic. Vukovic took the kick, it was saved by Ilic, but the Academy forward placed the ball in the next from the rebound.


 


TFC midfielder Sergio Camargo increased the lead at the 63rd minute mark for a 2-0 final score.
