WINDSOR STARS WIN 1-0 SQUEAKER, NIAGARA UNITED HOLD TORONTO CROATIA TO SCORELESS TIE

Windsor Stars scored their 7th victory of the season with a narrow 1-0 home win over Montreal Impact Academy at Windsor Stadium, and league-leading Toronto Croatia were held to a scoreless tie, two games in the CSL First Division Saturday.


 


Following a scoreless first half at Windsor, midfielder David Kadoic struck the game’s only goal at the 47th minute, a left foot drive from the edge of the penalty area that beat Montreal goalkeeper Jason Beaulieu.


 


Shortly afterwards, both teams had a player sent off by referee Matt McCready following an altercation which resulted in Windsor’s Stephen Ademolu and Montreal midfielder Philippe Lincourt-Joseph being shown the red card.


 


Windsor improve to 7-5-2 WLT for 23 points following the win and that’s good for a tie in sixth position in the standings, while Montreal Academy are without a win since July 1 and have a 5-2-6 record in ninth position.


 


Both defences played well at Kalar Park where the home side Niagara United in their inaugural season in the First Division held the current CSL champions and league leaders Toronto Croatia to a scoreless tie. Mohammed Mohammed was prominent for the home side despite the few opportunities to score.


 


Toronto Croatia have a 9-1-4 record for 31 points at the top of the table, while Niagara United have a 4-7-2 record for 14 points.

SC TORONTO SCORE LATE WINNER, MISSISSAUGA WINS GOAL-FEST WHILE LONDON, MONTREAL TIE 1-1

SC Toronto moved into second position in the First Division standings with a 3-2 last-minute victory over Kingston FC, Mississauga Eagles FC outlasted Serbian White Eagles to win a 6-4 goal-fest and London City came back from a 1-0 deficit to tie Montreal Impact Academy 1-1, three games in the CSL Friday.

 

Midfielder Vitaliy Sidorov opened the scoring to give Kingston FC a 7th minute 1-0 lead  at Lamport Stadium in Toronto and Jonathan Osorio tied the game for SC Toronto three minutes later It was 1-1 at half-time.

 

Forward Alex Campbell put Kingston up 2-1 at 58 minutes, but Evroy Junior Ellis tied the game 2-2 for the home side at 79 minutes.

 

In a game that could have gone either way and heading for a tie, Osorio struck the winner for SC Toronto at 91 minutes. The midfielder collected a left wing cross to beat Kingston goalkeeper Shane Lopez from close range.

 

SC Toronto move into second position in the standings with an 8-1-4 WLT record for 28 points, two points behind league-leading Toronto Croatia, while Kingston FC are at 3-12-1 for 10 points.

 

Mississauga Eagles FC opened the scoring at The Hershey Centre in Mississauga at the 17th minute when referee Abdalla Mohammed ordered a penalty for a tripping incident and Jose Melo scored from the spot.

 

Defender Antoine Paul made it 2-1 for the home side at 22 minutes, but Boris Mirlcic struck seven minutes later for Serbian White Eagles to reduce the score to 2-1.

 

Serbian Eagles’ forward Richard West levelled the score 2-2 at 31 minutes and seven minutes later Zoran Rajovic also scored for the visitors for a 3-2 lead. West scored his second of the game to move Serbian White Eagles ahead 4-2 at 41 minutes, the score at the break.

 

Antoine Paul scored his second of the game at 58 minutes, he headed home a corner kick to reduce the lead to 4-3 and Christian Kaollega tied the game 4-4 for Mississauga at 67 minutes.

 

Jose Mello scored his second goal at 83 minutes to give Mississauga Eagles a 5-4 lead and Andrew Samuels sealed the victory for the home side at 91 minutes, a 6-4 final score.

 

It was a close, well-played encounter at Cove Road in London where the first half ended scoreless. Montreal Impact Academy opened the scoring at 73 minutes when Victor Ndiaye beat London goalkeeper Vladimir Markotic following a breakaway.

 

London tied the game at 83 minutes on a goal by defender Mustafa Mohammed who struck from 25 yards to beat Montreal goalkeeper Jason Beaulieu and the game ended 1-1.

CSL CAMPAIGN HEADS INTO SECOND HALF OF SEASON….The Weekend Games

With the CSL First Division campaign now past the half-way point teams are beginning to take a more serious look at their chances for regular season honours and a berth in the playoffs. The 22-game regular season will end early October and the top eight in the final standings will progress to the playoffs leading to the CSL Championship, won in 2011 by Toronto Croatia.


 


Toronto Croatia continues to be prominent at or near the top of the CSL table and this weekend they travel to Niagara United for a game at Kalar Park on Saturday evening.


 


TFC Academy, second in the standings, are without a game this weekend, while SC Toronto play twice, at home to Kingston on Friday night and away to North York Astros on Sunday. While these top teams are in contention, so are a number of others with so few points separating the top half of the league standings.


 


One game in the CSL Second Division, SC Toronto B vs. Kingston FC B scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed.

SHORT-HANDED ASTROS DEFEAT ST. CATHARINES WOLVES WEDNESDAY

A short-handed North York Astros survived a second half send-off to defeat St. Catharines Wolves by a decisive 3-0 score at Club Roma in St. Catharines, the only game played in the Canadian Soccer League Wednesday night.


 


Following an evenly played, scoreless first half, North York took the lead at the 50th minute mark when defender Lorence Notaro drove the ball from 30 yards to the left of the St. Catharines goal to hit the crossbar before entering the net off Wolves’ goalkeeper Claudio Perri.


 


Seven minutes later, Astros’ midfielder Allan Fernando Cordon was handed a second caution and red card by referee Armando Pereira following an untidy challenge, but while playing short-handed the visitors pressed and increased their lead when forward Sean Beck came off the bench to find the net from 15 yards, a 2-0 score at 83 minutes.


 


St. Catharines came close to narrowing the score, with forward Abu Kamara being the most prominent, but it was North York that found the net in the closing minutes when Beck struck his second from a breakaway to score at the 88th minute mark.


 


The Astros exchange the bottom position with St. Catharines as a result of the victory with the Garden City side now at the foot of the table with a 1-11-1 WLT record for 4 points, while North York Astros improve to 2-12-1 for 7 points and 15th in the standings.


 


Both teams are at home this coming Sunday when the Astros host SC Toronto at Esther Shiner Stadium, that’s a 5.30 pm kickoff and St. Catharines are visited by Windsor Stars at Club Roma, that’s an 8 pm start.

BRAMPTON CITY UTD CRUSH GALAXY 7-1……David Guzman hat-trick

Midfielder David Guzman showed the way with a hat-trick in Brampton City Utd’s   crushing 7-1 defeat of Brantford Galaxy at Victoria Park in Brampton, the only game in the Canadian Soccer League’s First Division Sunday.

 

Guzman got things underway with a goal just five minutes into the game when he took a pass from Milos Scepanovic who moved the ball into the middle for Guzman to drive into the net.

 

It was Scepanovic who set up the second goal for Guzman to head home at 19 minutes for a 2-0 Brampton lead and Scepanovic scored the third nine minutes later, his 12th of the season and it was 3-0 at the interval.

 

Defender Mark Jankovic scored Brampton’s fourth goal 5 minutes into the second half for a 4-0 lead and Brantford reduced the lead to 4-1 at 68 minutes when Erwin Uzunovic scored from the penalty spot following a hand ball by the home side inside the box.

 

David Guzman struck his third goal at 72 minutes for a 5-1 Brampton lead and Ardit Xhameni made it 6-1 at the 82nd minute mark.

 

Xhameni completed the scoring at 89 minutes for a 7-1 final score.

 

It was Brantford’s third defeat in succession in 7 days following a period when the Galaxy appeared as a serious contender for First Division honours and the loss to Brampton is almost a repeat of the June 10 game when Brampton travelled to Lions Park to come away with an 8-2 victory.

 

Brampton improve to 6-4-3 WLT for 21 points and sixth in the standings, while the Galaxy are at 8-6-0 for 24 points in fifth place.

TORONTO CROATIA ON TOP FOLLOWING 5-1 DEFEAT OF KINGSTON FC SATURDAY

Toronto Croatia will retain the top position in the CSL First Division standings this weekend following the side’s 5-1 defeat of Kingston SC at the CaraCo Field Invista Centre in Kingston Saturday night.

 

Despite an early 1-0 lead by the home side, the victory was rarely in doubt as the game progressed and the current CSL champions dominated the play in the final stages.

 

Kingston forward Mademba Ba opened the scoring at the 15th minute mark when he beat Croatia goalkeeper Antonio Ilic with a shot from  8 yards, but nine minutes later Croatia’s Tihomir Maletic tied the score 1-1.

 

Three minutes later Ba had an opportunity to put his side ahead from the penalty spot, but hit the post and the score remained 1-1 to the break.

 

Four minutes into the second half Toronto Croatia went ahead 2-1 on a goal by Andelo Srznetic and Srznetic scored his second and Croatia’s third for a 3-1 lead at the 55th minute mark.

 

Maletic made it 4-1 at 67 minutes, his 10th of the season and Bozenko Lesina rounded the scoring for a 5-1 lead at 89 minutes and the score remained to the final whistle.

 

Toronto Croatia now has a 9-1-3 WLT record for 30 points, four points ahead of TFC Academy in second place with 26 points.

SERBIAN EAGLES, LONDON CITY AND MISSISSAUGA EAGLES SCORE VICTORIES….Richard West hits hat-trick for Serbian Eagles

Striker Richard West led Serbian White Eagles with a first half hat-trick to a 6-1 defeat of Niagara United, London City came from behind to register three late goals for a 4-2 victory over Brantford Galaxy and Mississauga Eagles FC blanked North York Astros 2-0, three games in the CSL Friday.

 

West opened the scoring at the 9th minute mark at Centennial Stadium from a pass by Ivan Seankovic, Zoran Rajovic made it 2-0 at 14 minutes when he intercepted the ball to chip over the head of Niagara goalkeeper John De Luca and West scored his second at 21 minutes for a 3-0 lead by the home side. West took a pass from Seankovic before placing the ball in the left corner of the net.

 

Kirie Dimitrov increased the Serbian Eagles lead to 4-0 at 27 minutes, he took a pass from Veljko Lukovic and at 39 minutes West scored his hat-trick, he took a pass from Zoran Rajovic for a 5-0 lead.

 

Rajovic scored his second goal and the 6th for Serbian White Eagles at 46 minutes for a 6-0 lead at half-time and Niagara United scored a consolation goal at 67 minutes, a goal by Derek Paterson from a free kick just outside the box. It was 6-1 for Serbian White Eagles at the final whistle.

 

Niagara played the last few minutes shorthanded when Anthont Fruci was shown the red card by referee Jeff Fearnall after receiving a second caution at 86 minutes.

 

Brantford forward Jacek Przednowek opened the scoring at 8 minutes in the game against London City at the TD Waterhouse ground in London and Neven Vujinovic made it 2-0 five minutes later.

 

London cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by Younan Samra at 29 minutes and it was 2-1 at half-time.

 

The City tied the game 2-2 at 78 minutes when Nenad Nikolic cut in from the left wing to score from the top of the box and the home side went on to claim the victory with goals by Nikolic, his second at 81 minutes and Samra also scored his second two minutes later for a 4-2 final score.

 

Mississauga Eagles scored their sixth victory of the regular season at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York and it was the Mississauga team’s Bohdan Sulypka who opened the scoring at 31 minutes for a 1-0 at half-time.

 

Eagles’ Sanjar Kairosh increased the lead to 2-0 when he found the net past North York goalkeeper Enea Perego at 63 minutes and while the Astros pressed to gat back into the game it ended 2-0 in favour of the visitors.

TORONTO CROATIA FAVOURED TO HOLD TOP SPOT OVER THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND

The top of the table standings in the CSL First Division at the end of this coming weekend rests with Toronto Croatia and Brantford Galaxy. Croatia are on top with a narrow one-point margin over second place TFC Academy, while  Brantford Galaxy, moves into the holiday weekend in fifth place.


 


 Only these two teams of the top five will see action – Toronto Croatia visits Kingston FC on Saturday, while the Galaxy have two games, a trip to London with a game against the City at the TD Waterhouse Stadium on Friday night and a visit to Victoria Park for a clash with Brampton City Utd on Sunday afternoon.


 


TFC Academy, SC Toronto and York Region Shooters are off, so there is every good chance the current CSL champions Toronto Croatia will keep the top spot, although the Galaxy have an outside chance if they pick up enough points and Croatia falters.

A first half strike by Tihomir Maletic gave Toronto Croatia a 1-0 victory and top

position in an ever-changing CSL standings, while York Region Shooters cruised to an easy 6-2 win over Kingston FC and SC Waterloo slammed Brantford Galaxy 5-0, three games in the CSL First Division Sunday.

A late goal gave Mississauga Eagles FC a 2-1 victory over St. Catharines Wolves, London City nipped Niagara United 1-0 and TFC Academy also scored a late goal to salvage a 2-2 tie in their home game against Windsor Stars, three games in the CSL Friday night.

 

Jose Melo scored at the 17th minute mark to put Mississauga Eagles into the lead at Club Roma in St. Catharines, he beat the Wolves goalkeeper Nicholas Palazzi from 12 yards, but the home side drew level at 38 minutes when midfielder William Janetos took a pass from the right wing to score from 12 yards and it was 1-1 at the break.

 

Antoine Paul struck the winner for the visitors at 89 minutes, the Mississauga defender headed home off a free kick out of reach of Palazzi and the 2-1 score held to the final whistle.

 

It was a well-played scoreless first half between London City and Niagara United at the TD Waterhouse ground in London, but the second half turned into a chippy affair in the second half following a goal at 50 minutes by defender Zvonko Bakula who found the net from close in off a corner kick.

 

Following several cautions, referee Rich Oliveira brought out the red card to dismiss Rudy Pikzinski of Niagara United following his second yellow card at 84 minutes and Bakula was shown the red card at 88 minutes following an untidy challenge on an opposing player. The game ended 1-0 in favour of London City.

 

Sergio Camargo opened the scoring for TFC Academy at the 20th minute mark at Downsview Park in Toronto, his first of two goals, but Windsor’s Joel Kabula tied the game 7 minutes later when he found the net from close in.

 

Windsor Stars took the lead at 41 minutes, a goal by forward Michael Eio and it was 2-1 at the interval.

 

TFC pressed for an equalizer in the latter stages of the game and the effort was rewarded with a tying goal from the penalty spot and the second goal for Sergio Camargo. Referee Yusri Rudolf ordered the kick when a TFC forward was brought down in the box and Windsor goalkeeper Anthony Santilli had little chance on the kick.

 

TFC Academy move up to the top position in the CSL First Division standings, they now have a 8-3-2 WLT record for 26 points, while Windsor Stars improve to 6-5-2 for 20 points.

Leader in the CSL First Division standings SC Toronto are idle this coming weekend, which provides ample opportunity for several teams to move to the top spot, including TFC Academy, Toronto Croatia and Brantford Galaxy, all separated by just one point as the CSL moves into the second half of a closely contested campaign.


 


It will be Sunday evening before the top positions are established in the First Division, with Toronto Croatia visiting Victoria Park to play Brampton and the last top division game of the weekend has Brantford Galaxy at home to SC Waterloo.

BRANTFORD, KINGSTON, WATERLOO WIN SUNDAY…Toronto Croatia held to 1-1 tie

TFC Academy and SC Toronto share the top position in the CSL following a 1-1 tie between Toronto Croatia and SC Toronto and in three other games played in the CSL First Division Sunday, SC Waterloo scored an emphatic 4-0 victory over Serbian White Eagles, Kingston FC overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat North York Astros 2-1 and Brantford Galaxy nipped Windsor Stars, 1-0.


 


The Toronto Croatia 1-1 tie with SC Toronto lived up to its billing in a hard, well-played encounter at Centennial Stadium, a game that was scoreless until Marin Vucemilovic Grgic found the net at 80 minutes. He took a pass from forward Tihomir Maletic while closing in and it turned out to be a tap in for the go-ahead goal.


 


SC Toronto were reduced to 10 men at a crucial time of 87 minutes when Garard Ladiyou was cautioned for a second time to be shown the red card and sent off.


 


Despite the disadvantage, the visitors fought back and were rewarded with a tying goal by forward Alon Badat who scored at 93 minutes after receiving a cross from the left wing.


 


SC Toronto improve to a 7-1-4 WLT record for 25 points and are tied for the top position with TFC Academy in the CSL First Division standings, while Toronto Croatia drop to third position with a 7-1-3 record for 24 points.


 


SC Waterloo had a field day in defeating Serbian White Eagles at the Seagram Stadium in Waterloo and it was Adis Hasecic who opened the scoring for the home side at 19 minutes and that was followed nine minutes later when Drazen Vukovic made it 2-0 and Slavisa Ubiparipovic increased the score to 3-0 at 39 minutes –  the score at the interval.


 


Vukovic added a second goal at 52 minutes for a 4-0 score, which held to the final whistle.


 


Midfielder Carlos Amorim opened the scoring for North York Astros at 37 minutes against Kingston FC at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York, the score at half-time.


 


Kingston forward Alex Campbell tied the game 1-1 at 52 minutes and Mademba Ba struck the winner from the penalty spot at 69 minutes following a pushing incident on Kingston’s Edgar Soglo inside the 18 yard line.


 


North York were reduced to 10 men when referee Scott Decker showed the red card to Davier Walcott at 72 minutes for serious foul play and the remainder of the game was scoreless to the final whistle, 2-1 in favour of Kingston FC.


 


A goal at 63 minutes by Brantford Galaxy midfielder Damion Scott was enough to earn his side three points in the game against Windsor Stars at Lions Park. Scott took a pass from Marco Machado to drive the ball from 20 yards into the bottom left corner past Windsor goalkeeper Anthony Santilli.


The goal broke open a game with few chances throughout, with Santilli and Galaxy’s Melford James Jr. both playing a solid game.


 


The win moved Brantford into a tie for third place in the standings, it was the Galaxy’s eighth win and they now have an 8-3-0 record for 24 points.

BRAMPTON, WINDSOR SCORE SATURDAY VICTORIES….Niagara United, York Region Shooters play to scoreless tie

Brampton City Utd handed Montreal Impact Academy just their second defeat of the season and the first at home in CSL action Saturday, while Windsor Stars edged past Serbian White Eagles 2-1 and Niagara United played to a scoreless tie to give York Region Shooters their seventh tie of the season.


 


Following a well-played, almost scoreless first half, forward Alex Braletic put Brampton City Utd in the lead at 45 minutes against Montreal Impact Academy at the St Jean De Vianney ground in Montreal. It was a picture goal, a strong drive from 22 yards to the right of goalkeeper Jason Beaulieu for a 1-0 half-time in favour of the visitors.


 


Midfielder David Guzman increased the lead to 2-0 for Brampton, he struck from 12 yards to find the net and the score held to the final whistle in favour of the Toronto area team.


 


Windsor Stars struck early with a goal by Michael Lepera after just four minutes in the game with Serbian White Eagles at Windsor Stadium and that score held in a close contest until Viktor Anastasov equalized for the Toronto team at 68 minutes.


 


It was nine minutes later that Windsor forward Christian Mayorga collected the ball on the six yard line to find the net past Serbian Eagles’ goalkeeper Nikola Marojevic and that proved to be the winner with the score 2-1 at the final whistle.


 


Niagara United played most of the second half with 10 men to battle to a scoreless tie with York Region Shooters at Kalar Park after Rudy Pikzinski was shown the red card by referee Pereira for serious foul play ten minutes into the second half.


 


It was a hard played encounter with both goalkeepers John De Luca for the home side and Emanuelle Ameltonis for York Region Shooters playing a big part in a scoreless game.
