Brampton City Utd, Toronto Croatia and Mississauga Eagles FC all scored victories while Capital City FC and York Region Shooters suffered defeats Sunday, to tighten the race at the top of the CSL First Division.
Toronto Croatia continued their impressive form to be now undefeated in five games, four of which were wins, to blank London City 2-0 at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke Sunday. Brampton City Utd scored a 4-3 victory over Capital City FC at Victoria Park and Mississauga Eagles FC downed York Region Shooters, 2-0, at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga.
Toronto Croatia forward Bozenko Lesina scored both goals for his side in the 2-0 shutout of London City, the goals coming at the 36th and 49th minutes and both scored in similar fashion with shots from outside the box.
Toronto Croatia are now in fifth position in the standings as a result of the win.
Brampton City Utd led 4-1 at one stage in the game against Capital City FC before the game ended 4-3.
Brampton took the lead after 4 minutes on a goal by Kevin Omokhua who collected a free kick from outside the box to drive the ball past Capital City ‘keeper Clint Irwin.
The home side’s Andrew Da Silva made it 2-0 at 19 minutes, heading in from a corner kick, and forward Richard West made it 3-0 for Brampton at the 24th minute mark. It was West’s 13th goal of the season.
Capital City forward William Beauge cut the lead to 3-1 with a goal at 33 minutes when he collected a pass to survive a call for offside and beat Brampton goalkeeper Kodzo Awitor from 12 yards. It was 3-1 at the break.
West struck his second goal at 54 minutes to increase Brampton’s lead to 4-1 and that was his fourth of the weekend after scoring twice in a 4-1 Brampton win over TFC Academy on Friday night. West now has 14 goals for the season.
Forward Sullivan Silva scored Capital City’s second goal at 61 minutes – his seventh of the season and Junior Ellis scored for the visitors at 85 minutes for a 4-3 score which held to the final whistle.
Midfielder James Langlois opened the scoring at the 21st minute mark for Mississauga Eagles FC in their win over York Region Shooters and the game could have gone either way until Jose Melo struck at 87 minutes to assure the Erin Mills-based team the 2-0 victory.
The Mississauga Eagles’ forward took a pass from Shawn Brown before driving into the York Region net from 25 yards.
CSL First Division games resume on Wednesday when St. Catharines Wolves host Brantford Galaxy, an 8 pm kickoff at Club Roma.
