The patented free kick for which Serbian Eagles forward Sasa Viciknez has become known – from just outside the penalty box and a little to the side – was the highlight of an entertaining tussle between the home side attempting to recover from two losses the previous weekend at Montreal and Ottawa and the Astros still bidding for their opening win of the season.
While Serbian Eagles had more opportunities to put the ball in the net, Astros played well enough for periods during which it was difficult to comprehend the North York side had failed to win in 12 attempts since starting the campaign so promisingly with an impressive 2-2 away tie in their opener on May 21.
Heading for another tie, the Astros suffered that sinking feeling yet again shortly after their defender Diego Benzi upended Viciknez just outside the box and referee Facchini gave the free kick and a yellow card to Benzi.
Viciknez, at one time a top flight player in
Serbian Eagles had a goal disallowed during the first half and late in the game Benzi received a second yellow card for using his hand on the ball while going up for a header and was dismissed.
