WINDSOR STARS, SERBIAN WHITE EAGLES SCORE SUNDAY WINS, SHOOTERS HELD TO A TIE BY WATERLOO….Richard West’s second hat-trick

Windsor Stars continued their good form with a 4-1 defeat of St. Catharines Wolves at Windsor Stadium, one of three games in the Canadian Soccer League Sunday. Serbian White Eagles defeated Brantford Galaxy by the same 4-1 score and York Region Shooters were held to a 1-1 tie by SC Waterloo.

 

Forward Michael Lapera opened the scoring with a goal for the border team at 30 minutes and Lepera scored a second to make it 2-0 seven minutes later, the score at half-time.

 

St. Catharines reduced the lead to 2-1 at the 55th minute mark with a goal by forward Carlo Arghittu who came on for the second half as a substitute, but Windsor extended their lead to 3-1, a goal by Keith Lough at the 60th minute mark. Arghittu missed a penalty for the visitors just two minutes earlier to scoring his goal, a save by Windsor ‘keeper Anthony Santilli.

 

Midfielder David Kadoic completed the scoring when he beat St. Catharines goalkeeper Claudio Perri at 81 minutes, a 4-1 final score.

 

Windsor are undefeated in seven straight games and have moved into a tie for fourth position in the standings with a 10-5-4 WLT record for 34 points, while St. Catharines Wolves have a 1-14-5 record for 8 points.

 

Richard West was again the centre of attention with a hat-trick that led Serbian White Eagles to their 4-1 victory over the Galaxy at Lions Park in Brantford, but it was Kirie Dimitrov who opened the scoring for Serbian White Eagles at just six minutes into the game when he drove a spectacular shot from 40 yards to put the ball just under the crossbar.

 

West made it 2-0 three minutes later when he headed in a cross from Zoran Rajovic, and Rojovic was instrumental in the third goal, also scored by West at the 20th minute mark, a 3-0 lead for Serbian Eagles at half-time.

 

Richard West again took a cross from Rajovic to find the net at the 53rd minute, a 4-0 lead in favour of the visitors, but the Galaxy scored a consolation goal at 67 minutes from a penalty awarded by referee Matt Arduni. Brantford’s Marco Machado was brought down in the box, the penalty by Sasa Jelovic was saved by Serbian Eagles goalkeeper Milos Durkovic, but Jelovic scored from the rebound, a 4-1 final score.

 

It’s a second hat-trick for Richard West after scoring three goals in the Serbian White Eagles 6-1 defeat of Niagara United on August 3, the Serbian Eagles forward now has 13 on the season.

 

Serbian White Eagles improve to 8-7-4 for 28 points in the standings, while Brantford Galaxy are still in a slump with a 8-10-1 record for 25 points.

 

Waterloo forward Zoran Kukic opened the scoring against York Region Shooters at the St. Joan of Arc ground in Maple, he found the net at the 11th minute mark.

 

Waterloo’s Shawn Brown was ejected at the 83rd minute after receiving a second caution and York Region’s Carlos Rivas Jr headed in the equalizer at 92 minutes for the 1-1 final score.

 

York Region Shooters are third in the standings following the tie, they now have a 9-1-10 record for 37 points, while SC Waterloo are at 8-9-1 for 25 points.

MONTREAL ACADEMY IN CONTENTION WITH 3-0 VICTORY…Kingston defeat Astros 2-1

Montreal Impact Academy scored their ninth victory of the season, a 3-0 defeat of Niagara United, while Kingston FC scored a narrow 2-1 victory over North York Astros, two games in the Canadian Soccer League Saturday night.

 

Jeremy Gagnon-Lapare opened the scoring for Montreal Academy at the 13th minute at the Kalar Park in Niagara Falls, he collected a cross to beat Niagara goalkeeper John De Luca from close in.

 

Mircea Ilcu increased the lead to 2-0 at 35 minutes and Zakaris Messoudi completed the scoring, a 3-0 final

 

Niagara’s Tony Marmigas was shown the red card by referee Hassane Rifai at the 80th minute after receiving a second caution.

 

Montreal Impact Academy are very much in contention for a playoff spot with an improved 9-3-5 WLT record for 32 points in fifth position and five games remaining in the regular campaign, while Niagara United have a 7-9-3 record for 24 points and involved in a 3-way tie for 11th position in the standings.

 

Midfielder Jordan Brooks opened the scoring for Kingston FC against North York Astros at the CaraCo Home Field at the Invista Centre in Kingston, he found the net with a low drive at the 14th minute mark and Vitaliy Sidorov made it 2-0 just before the break.

 

The Astros pressed the Kingston defence to get back into the game and eventually broke through at the 86th minute on a goal by Vasileios Liagkos who found the net past Kingston goalkeeper Shane Lopez, a 2-1 final score.

 

Kingston FC has a 3-15-1 record for 10 points, while North York Astros are at the foot of the table with a 2-17-1 record for 7 points.

SC TORONTO SECURE PLAYOFF SPOT WITH VICTORY…Two games postponed

SC Toronto secured a playoff berth with a 2-1 victory over Brampton City Utd in the Canadian Soccer League Friday night and two other games scheduled were postponed due to wet ground conditions at Cove Road in London and malfunctioning of the lights at Downsview Park in Toronto.

 

Following a scoreless first half during which SC Toronto had most the play, midfielder Dane Roberts opened the scoring for the home side at Lamport Stadium in Toronto, he intercepted a back-pass to Brampton goalkeeper Jason Lopes to find the net from close range at the 49th minute mark.

 

Jonathan Osorio increased the lead for SC Toronto when his drive from 35 yards beat the Brampton goalkeeper for a 2-0 score at the 65th minute mark.

 

Brampton cut the lead two minutes later, a goal be midfielder David Guzman for a 2-1 score and Brampton continued to press in the late stages of the game, but failed to find an equalizer and the game ended 2-1 in favour of SC Toronto.

 

SC Toronto improve to 12-2-4 WLT for 40 points for second place in the standings and are assured of a playoff spot following the win. Brampton City Utd are at 7-8-4 for 25 points and tied for a seventh place in the standings with three other clubs.

 

Two additional games in the CSL First Division were postponed Friday, the first postponement came from London where the City’s game with Mississauga Eagles FC could not be played following heavy rain in the morning. The TFC Academy vs. Montreal Impact Academy game could not be played due to a malfunction of the lights just before kickoff at Downsview Park.

 

There is one game in the CSL Second Division cancelled, the Serbian White Eagles vs Kingston FC game, due to be played at Eglinton Flats Saturday evening, is off.

CBC PROGRAM ON MATCH FIXING IN THE CSL – Statement from the Canadian Soccer League

                              CBC REPORT ON MATCH FIXING IN THE CSL


 


The Canadian Soccer League was aware of accusations that a regular season league game of September 12, 2009 between the home side Trois-Rivieres Attak and Toronto Croatia played at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec and won 4-1 by Trois-Rivieres Attak, was tampered with in favour of certain betting interests in Europe.


 


The CSL investigated the matter and was not able to reach a conclusion that the allegations were true. FIFA was also aware of the accusations and we have yet to receive any information from them on this matter..


 


The CSL will study carefully all of the information reported in the match fixing story by CBC on September 11


 


The CSL has and will continue to co-operate with the CBC on this story and if necessary, whatever law enforcement or immediate governance federations that may be involved.


 


Match fixing in soccer is prevalent in many parts of the world and is a threat to the game.


 


The Canadian Soccer League continues its pledge to take the necessary steps  to prevent any activity considered to be tampering with the outcome of any CSL matches in the future..

MOHAMMED HAT-TRICK LEADS NIAGARA TO 3-1 VICTORY

Niagara United, led by forward Mohammed Mohammed with all three goals, scored a 3-1 victory over St. Catharines Wolves at Club Roma in St. Catharines, the only game in the Canadian Soccer League Wednesday night.

 

Mohammed opened the scoring for Niagara United with a drive from just outside the box at the 6th minute mark and Scott McLennan equalized for St. Catharines Wolves at 19 minutes.

 

Mohammed made it 2-1 for Niagara at 33 minutes when he beat St. Catharines goalkeeper Claudio Perri from the penalty spot ordered by referee Richard Oliveira  following a foul by Matt Di Maria on a Niagara forward.  

 

Mohammed completed his hat-trick at 66 minutes after Perri failed to hold a shot and the Niagara forward drove the ball into the net and it was a 3-1 final score.

 

Mohammed Mohammed’s hat-trick comes following his two goals in the 4-0 Niagara United victory over London City on September 8, he now has eight goals on the season.

 

Niagara United improves to a 7-8-3 WLT record for 24 points and are part of a three-way tie for 11th position on the fringes of a playoff berth, while St. Catharines Wolves have a 1-13-5 record for 8 points.

 

 

THE CSL’s POSITION ON PLAYING GAMES THAT CLASH WITH CANADIAN NATIONAL TEAMS

The CSL cares about the Canadian national team and its progress in the World Cup. The CSL cares about Canada’s women and takes pride in their recent Olympic achievement.


 


The CSL has remained staunchly Canadian, having declined entry requests by teams from New York State and Michigan over the years.


 


The CSL and other leagues in Canada have been embroiled in controversy for many years over the question of avoiding a clash with important games involving the Canadian Men’s World Cup team, the Canadian Women’s team, the Canadian Olympic team and other attractive games such as the FIFA U-20 World Championship games of 2007.


 


 Canadian leagues, including the CSL, appear to take a first position of trying to avoid a clash if an important national team game is scheduled and their first position may favour the cancellation of all games. Then reality takes over.


 


In the CSL, Friday night is the most popular time period for some clubs and there are only so many Fridays to accommodate their home games. Other leagues have similar congested schedule considerations.


 


A number of games in the CSL and other leagues were played on September 7 when Canada defeated Panama in a World Cup qualifier.


 


The CSL considered the impact of playing their three games would be minimal and would not compromise the league’s overall support to Canada’s bid for World Cup qualifying. The three games were scheduled early in 2012,  the CSL accumulated various commitments for these games, including a televised game commitment in Toronto – for tape delay the following Sunday.


 


The CSL league office was not requested by the clubs involved or any member club to postpone a game scheduled for September 7.


 


It’s a discretionary decision balancing many considerations and the CSL will review its position of September 7 and will continue to consider carefully all upcoming important national team games with a view to providing enthusiastic support including the cancellation of games if necessary, as long as there are sufficient benefits to the Canadian national team game in doing so.


 

CROATIA, MONTREAL ACADEMY AND SC WATERLOO WIN SUNDAY….Drazen Vukovic hits hat-trick

Toronto Croatia extended their lead at the top of the First Division with a 2-0 victory over Brantford Galaxy, Montreal Impact Academy blanked Serbian White Eagles 1-0, league title contenders York Region Shooters and TFC Academy tied 1-1 and later in Sunday evening action in the CSL SC Waterloo romped 6-0 including a Drazen Vukovic hat-trick over North York Astros.

 

Following a scoreless first half during which Toronto Croatia had most of the play against Brantford Galaxy at Lions Park in Brantford, midfielder Boris Tomac came on as a substitute to open the scoring for the visitors at 69 minutes. Toronto Croatia defender Josip Bonacin headed the ball into the net from a corner past Galaxy goalkeeper Zoran Pusica at 91 minutes for a 2-0 score which remained to the final whistle.

 

Toronto Croatia increase their lead at the top of the First Division, they now have a 13-1-5 WLT record for 44 points, seven points clear of second place SC Toronto. Brantford are at 8-9-1 for the season for 25 points in 10th place.

 

Midfielder Wandrille Lefevre scored the only goal from a free kick in the 1-0 victory for Montreal Impact Academy over Serbian White Eagles at the Claude Robillard Sports Complex in Montreal, the prolific Lefevre found the net with a low drive from 20 yards past Serbian Eagles goalkeeper Milos Durkovic, the goal coming at the 55th minute mark.

 

The game was physical and chippy from time to time and Serbian White Eagles midfielder Ramon Bailey was shown the red card at 43 minutes for serious foul play.

 

Montreal are in 6th place in the standings following the win, they have a 8-3-5 record for 29 points, while Serbian White Eagles have a 7-7-4 record for 25 points.

 

TFC Academy went ahead 1-0 at the 83rd minute against York Region Shooters at the St. Joan of Arc ground in Maple, a goal by midfielder Joshua Janniere and just when it appeared the visitors were heading for a narrow victory, York Region`s Andre Rollins headed the ball into the net for a 1-1 tie.

 

York Region Shooters now have a 9-1-9 record for 36 points in third position following the tie, while TFC Academy are in fourth position with a 10-4-4 record for 34 points.

A late second half hat-trick by SC Waterloo attacking midfielder Drazen Vukovic sealed the victory for the home side against North York Astros at the St. David SS ground in Waterloo, he found the net at the 84, 86 and 89 minutes for his 15th of the season.

 

It was Adis Hasecic who opened the scoring for the Waterloo Region side, he found the net a just six minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead at half-time. Mirza Colic increased the lead to 2-0 at 50 minutes and Nemanja Simeunovic made it 3-0 10 minutes later before Vukovic scored his hat-trick.

 

Eric Batchanou of North York Astros was ejected at the 62nd minute.

 

SC Waterloo improve to 7-9-0 for 21 points over the season, while the Astros are at 2-15-1 for 7 points.

SERBIAN WHITE EAGLES, NIAGARA UNITED HAVE EASY WINS SATURDAY……Two hat-tricks at Kingston

Richard West and Zoran Rajovic each scored three goals in a 7-3 Serbian White Eagles defeat of Kingston FC, while Niagara United defeated London City 4-0 in one other game played in the Canadian Soccer League Saturday night.

 

West struck the opening goal for Serbian White Eagles at the CaraCo Home Field at the Invista Centre when he found the net past Kingston goalkeeper Shane Lopez at the 4th minute mark and the Serbian Eagles forward increased the lead to 2-0 nine minutes later.

 

Rajovic made it 3-0 at 29 minutes, the score at the interval and Kingston reduced the lead to 3-1 at the 60th minute mark on a goal by midfielder Tony Asmar.

 

Rajovic then increased the lead to 4-1 at 62 minutes from a direct free kick that caught the top left corner of the net and three minutes later West completed his hat-trick for a 5-1 lead for the visitors.

 

Kingston defender Ryan McCurdy scored at 69 minutes for a 5-2 Serbian Eagles lead, and Kingston striker Mademba Ba cut the lead to 5-3 at 71 minutes before Rajovic struck his third goal and Serbian Eagles’ sixth for a 6-3 lead at73 minutes.. A Kingston defender scored an own goal at 89 minutes increasing the Serbian White Eagles lead to 7-3, the score at the final whistle.

 

Serbian White Eagles improve to 7-6-4 WLT for 25 points, while Kingston FC are at 2-15-1 for 7 points in the standings.

 

Richard West increased his goalscoring to 10 for the season as a result of the hat-trick, his second hat-trick of the season following three goals scored in a 6-1 victory over Niagara United on August 3, and Rajovic increased his goalscoring tally to 12  during the current campaign.

 

The 10 goals scored in one game during the current season equals that of the Brampton City Utd 8, Brantford Galaxy 2 result at Lions Park on June 10 and the Mississauga Eagles FC 6, Serbian White Eagles 4 game at the Hershey Centre on August 10.

 

Forward Mohammed Mohammed scored twice in Niagara United’s sixth win of the season at the Kalar Sports Centre in Niagara Falls, the Niagara forward opened the scoring at 31 minutes against London City for a 1-0 score at the break.

 

Defender Marco Stencel increased the home side`s lead to 2-0 at 67 minutes, Mohammed scored his second for a 3-0 Niagara lead at 82 minutes before Ben N`Goran completed the scoring, 4-0 at the 88th minute mark which held to the final whistle.

 

London City played with 10 men during the second half following the dismissal by referee Steve Decker of Manu Odurwa for serious foul play.

 

Niagara United are now at 6-8-3 for 21 points, London City are at 6-8-6 for 24 points in the standings.

TORONTO CROATIA, SC TORONTO AND YORK REGION REGISTER DECISIVE WINS……Croatia first to clinch playoff berth

Toronto Croatia, SC Toronto and York Region Shooters, all bidding for the CSL league title, registered decisive wins in the three games played in the Canadian Soccer League  Friday night.

 

SC Toronto roughed up Brantford Galaxy, 6-1 at Lamport Stadium, while Toronto Croatia maintained a four-point lead at the top of the table with a 4-1 victory over TFC Academy at Downsview Park, and York Region Shooters appeared determined to stay in contention with a well earned 4-1 away win over Mississauga Eagles FC at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga.

 

Toronto Croatia went ahead at the 24th minute on a goal by Tihomir Maletic and the prolific striker made it 2-0 at 39 minutes with a drive that struck the crossbar before entering the net. The goals were Maletic’s 12th and 13th of the season.

 

Hayden Fitzwilliams increased the Croatia lead to 3-0 at 51 minutes and at 87 minutes TFC Academy scored from the penalty spot to make it 3-1, a goal by Mario Kovacevic following an untidy challenge inside the box.

 

Marin Vucemilovic Grgic struck for Toronto Croatia two minutes later, also from the penalty spot for a 4-1 final score.

 

The win lifted Toronto Croatia’s record to 12-1-5 WLT for 41 points on the season and the current CSL champions are the first team to qualify for a playoff berth. TFC Academy are at 10-4-3 for 33 points and are in fourth position in the standings.

 

Midfielder Anthony Di Biase opened the scoring for SC Toronto in their game against Brantford Galaxy and Ranko Golijanin equalized for the visitors at the 15th minute mark.

 

Midfielder Dominic Roberts made it 2-1 for SC Toronto at 42 minutes, the score at the break.

 

Jonathan Osorio scored twice for the Toronto side in just three minutes, the first at 62 minutes and his second and SC Toronto’s fourth at 65 minutes for a 4-1 lead, and at 76 minutes Roberts beat Brantford goalkeeper Zoran Pusica for his second goal and a 5-1 SC Toronto lead. Di Biase scored his second and SC Toronto’s sixth for a 6-1 score that held to the final whistle.

 

SC Toronto are in second position in the standings with a 11-2-4 record for 37 points, while Brantford Galaxy continue their slump and now have a 8-8-1 record for 25 points.

 

York Region Shooters were also full marks for their victory over Mississauga Eagles FC and it was defender Fitzroy Christey who opened the scoring for a 1-0 Shooters lead at 3 minutes.

 

Midfielder Matthew O’Connor made it 2-0 at 10 minutes and Chris Thomas increased the lead to 3-0 at 36 minutes.

 

Mississauga Eagles were awarded a penalty following a hand ball at 38 minutes and Jose Melo found the net for a 3-1 score, but Kadian Lecky struck the fourth goal for York Region Shooters four minutes later and the game ended 4-1 in favour of the York Region.

 

The Shooters are 9-1-8 on the season for 35 points and have moved into third position in the standings, while Mississauga Eagles FC are at 7-7-4 for 25 points.

CSL CAMPAIGN CLOSING IN ON PLAYOFFS……The weekend games

by

CSL playoffs will begin in just over a month when the top eight in each of the two divisions will play their one-game quarter-finals, tentatively set for the weekend October 12 to 14, to be followed by the one-game semi-finals the weekend October 19 to 21.


 


The top four teams will have home game advantage in the quarter-finals, with a schedule of games of teams in the following positions drawn together: 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5.


 


The CSL Championship Final will be played at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke on Saturday, October 27 and there will be additional announcements during the week September 10.


 


The top teams are all in action this coming weekend, with league-leading Toronto Croatia, the CSL defending champions playing twice, a visit to Downsview Park to meet TFC Academy on Friday night and another away game, a visit to Lions Park in Brantford on Sunday.


 


Montreal Impact Academy have moved their First Division game with Serbian White Eagles on Sunday from the St Jean de Vianney ground to the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex at 1000 Émile Journault in Montreal and there is an additional game in the Second Division this weekend with Windsor Stars B playing a home game at Windsor Stadium against Brantford Galaxy B on Saturday, a game previously scheduled for August 25 but which was postponed.

TORONTO CROATIA, WINDSOR STARS WIN SUNDAY….Croatia’s Vucemilovic Grgic hits hat-trick

Toronto Croatia went four points into the lead at the top of the First Division with a 3-1 victory over Niagara United, while Windsor Stars continued their good form with a 1-0 defeat of Brampton City Utd, two games in the Canadian Soccer League Sunday.

 

Toronto Croatia’s Marin Vucemilovic Grgic came up with all three goals in the game at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke. He struck at the five-minute mark with a header from five yards, scored again at 24 minutes and the 25 year-old midfielder completed his hat-trick when he beat Niagara goalkeeper John De Luca with a drive from 18 yards at the 79th minute mark, That was his 12th goal of the season.

 

Niagara midfielder Rudy Pikzinski scored his side’s lone goal at the 12 minute mark and the visitors were reduced to 10 men when referee Marie Soleul-Beaudvin showed the red card to Jason Devonish for Serious Foul Play.

 

Toronto Croatia now lead the First Division by four points following the 3-1 win, they have a 11-1-5 WLT record, with SC Toronto in second place. Niagara United have a 5-8-3 record for 18 points.

 

It took just one goal by midfielder Wade Allen at 56 minutes to give Windsor Stars three important points and their sixth straight game without a loss, a 1-0 result at Victoria Park in Brampton.

 

Allen drove the ball from 20 yards to beat Brampton goalkeeper Jason Lopes and while the visitors are enjoying good form, such is not the case with Brampton City Utd which has now gone five games without a win and have slipped to 10th position in the standings. Brampton have a 6-8-4 record for 22 points, while Windsor improve to 9-5-4 for 31 points and are 5th in the First Division table.

LONDON CITY SURVIVE LATE BRAMPTON RALLY TO WIN 3-2, It’s 1-1 Serbian Eagles and Mississauga

A late second half rally by Brampton City Utd failed to overcome a 3-0 deficit leaving London City with a 3-2 victory, and in one other game in the CSL Friday night, Serbian White Eagles battled to a 1-1 tie with Mississauga Eagles FC.

 

London forward Younan Samra opened the scoring at the 11th minute at Cove Road in London and Nenad Begovic made it 2-0 at 31 minutes with a drive from 16 yards, the score at the break.

 

Forward Dalibor Mitrovic increased the lead to 3-0 for the home side at 56 minutes, but this was followed by a late rally from Brampton which resulted in a  goal  by midfielder David Guzman, he found the net past London City goalkeeper Vladimir Markotic at the 70th minute, Guzman’s 12th goal of the season.

 

Brampton continued to press and David Velastagui scored at 86 minutes, a shot from an acute angle on left wing which found the net behind Markotic, but the visitors failed to find an equalizer and the game ended with a 3-2 London win.

 

London City now have a 6-7-6 WLT record for 24 points to recover from their early season set-backs and are in 9th position in the standings.

 

Brampton are at 6-7-4 for 22 points.

 

It was a close encounter at Centennial Stadium between Serbian White Eagles and nearby Mississauga Eagles FC with the visitors scoring at just three minutes when midfielder Jose Melo found the net from a free kick, it was Melo’s 10th goal of the season.

 

Serbian Eagles’ Zoran Rajovic struck from 14 yards for the equalizer, his 9th of the season, and the close game failed to produce a winning goal and the game ended a 1-1 tie.

 

Serbian White Eagles are now at 6-6-4 for 22 points, while Mississauga Eagles FC improve to 7-6-4 for 25 points.

TORONTO CROATIA WITH JUST ONE LOSS CONTINUE TO IMPRESS…the weekend games

Toronto Croatia are unbeaten in their last seven games and have suffered just one loss all season, at SC Waterloo by a 1-0 score on July 8 to keep up the impressive performance of 2011 (18-3-5) when they finished runners-up in the standings (SC Toronto finished on top) and went on to capture the CSL title.


 


The champions are on a similar path with just a little more than a month to go before the regular season wraps up and the CSL moves into the playoffs.


 


Toronto Croatia are at home to Niagara United this Labour Day weekend as the only team of the top four in action, so their league-leading top position is not under threat.


 


Windsor Stars are in fifth position in the standings and will be making a strong bid against Brampton City Utd to make the most of their game at Victoria Park on Sunday, while Mississauga Eagles FC – eighth position in the table – will be hoping for three points from their home clash with close-by Serbian White Eagles.
