SATURDAY VICTORIES FOR UNBEATEN VORKUTA AND HAMILTON CITY

FC Vorkuta jumped six points in the lead with a 2-0 away victory over Brantford Galaxy and Hamilton City defeated SC Waterloo 4-2, two games in the Canadian Soccer League Saturday.

Vorkuta took the lead at 25 minutes when midfielder Iaroslav Solonynko took a pass from Oleh Kerchu to side-step the oncoming Brantford defender to then smash the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

The 1-0 Vorkuta lead held for the remainder of the game until at 90 minutes midfielder Valerii Haidarzhi secured the victory with a well-taken curling shot into the far corner of the net from 19 yards, a 2-0 Vorkuta lead and score at the final whistle.

Vorkuta jump six points into the lead in the CSL First Division as a result of the victory, to remain unbeaten with a 5-0-1WLT record for 16 points, six ahead of second place FC Ukraine United.

Brantford Galaxy now has a 1-3-1 record for 4 points and fifth in the table.

Midfielder Lucas Raposo opened the scoring for Hamilton City at 4 minutes and Vladimir Stankovic found the net past Hamilton City goalkeeper Stefan Avramovic to tie the score 1-1 at the 15th minute mark, the score at the break.

Sani Dey put Hamilton in front 2-1 at 65 minutes, but the lead held for just two minutes before the visitors’ Aleksander Mitic tied the game 2-2, the goal coming at the 67 minute mark.

Hamilton City then struck twice late in the second half, a goal at 74 minutes by defender Arsen Platis and at 80 minutes when Miroslav Cabrilo beat Waterloo goalkeeper Marko Jelic to complete the scoring, 4-2 in favor of Hamilton City.

Hamilton City improves to 2-3-0 for six points in fifth position, while SC Waterloo has a 1-3-0 record for three points in 7th position in the standings.

There is one First Division match on Sunday, it’s at Birchmount Stadium where
Scarborough SC hosts expansion team CSC Mississauga, an 8 pm kickoff, and in the CSL Second Division, FC Vorkuta B is at home to Halton United B at St. Roberts HS Field, a 2 pm start.
