Kiril Dimitrov was more than a promising player arriving from Bulgarian club PEC Belasica in 2009 to play for Serbian White Eagles in the Canadian Soccer League. Signing for six more Canadian teams in the first 10 years did not satisfy his ambitions in either. Now. and for several seasons since those early years the attacking midfielder took on a much different posture to sometimes enter the field as a player-coach, occupy the touchline as head coach and in more recent times adopt the role of general manager of Scarborough SC.
Dimitrov is a Toronto east-ender where the soccer community in Scarborough and the local Birchmount Stadium is exactly where he wants to be, forging a reputation of taking Scarborough to now be recognized as one of the top semi-professional teams in Canada. Serbian White Eagles is the only other CSL team similarly recognized following its 1975 CONCACAF Championship run in taking the team to Mexico against powerhouse CF Monterray .
Scarborough’s most recent success prior to 2026 was defending its 2025 CSL Championship victory, to then be the 2026 winner of both games of the two-games total aggregate championship, a 4-0 rout of Serbian White Eagles in the first game on August 15 at Esther Shiner Stadium and a 1-0 Scarborough victory at Centennial Stadium on October 4 for a 5-0 total goals aggregate. It’s Scarborough’s 4th CSL Championship following the earlier victories in 2019, 2021 and 2025 to reflect the successful determination by Dimitrov to raise Scarborough to be one of Canada’s top semi-pro teams.
Kiril Dimitrov determination to succeed lifts Scarborough to be one of the top semi-pro teams in Canada.
