SERBIAN WHITE EAGLES, WATERLOO SCORE SUNDAY VICTORIES…..teams in both divisions qualify for playoffs

Serbian White Eagles moved closer to the First Division title with a decisive 5-0 victory over Burlington SC and in one other game in the CSL top loop Sunday, SC Waterloo secured a playoff berth with a 3-0 win over Brantford Galaxy. First Division teams Serbian White Eagles, Toronto Croatia and Toronto Atomic FC have also clinched playoff berths, leaving four spots still to be decided.

Milos Scepanovic opened the scoring for Serbian White Eagles, heading into the net at 8 minutes for a 1-0 lead.

Djorjije Strunjas made it 2-0 at 36 minutes, the score at half-time. It was the second goal of the campaign for Strunjas.

Branislav Vukomanovic beat Burlington goalkeeper Andrew Stringer to make it 3-0 at 50 minutes, Miroslav Jovanovic increased the visitors’ lead to 4-0 at 73 minutes and Scepanovic struck his seventh goal of the season to round out the score to 5-0 for Serbian Eagles at the 87 minute mark.

Serbian White Eagles continue to lead the CSL First Division and have a 14-2-4 WLT for 46 points following Sunday’s win, leading Toronto Croatia in second spot by seven points.

Burlington have a 6-11-3 record in 11 position.

Two goals by midfielder Aleksander Stojiljkovic at 56 and 70 minutes moved SC Waterloo into a 2-0 second half lead over Brantford Galaxy at Warrior Field, Waterloo and this was followed by a goal by Adis Hasecic who found the net past Brantford Galaxy goalkeeper Luka Besenic at 74 minutes, a 3-0 score at the final whistle.

It was goal number 16 for Hasecic, just two short of the 18 goals scored by Zdenko Jurcevic the current leading scorer in the CSL First Division.

SC Waterloo are in third position in the standings with a 10-6-3 record for 33 points, while Brantford Galaxy are at 7-11-2 for 23 points and 10 in the standings.

There were three games in the CSL Second Division Sunday when York Region Shooters B defeated Toronto Croatia B, 2-0, SC Waterloo B nipped Brantford Galaxy B 1-0, and Burlington SC B edged past Serbian White Eagles B, 4-3.

SC Waterloo B, Milton SC B, Brantford Galaxy B, York Region Shooters B, Burlington SC B and Toronto Atomic B have clinched spots in the Second Division Championship playoffs. Two more teams are to be decided.
