MISSISSAUGA EAGLES VICTORY IMPROVES PLAYOFF CHANCES WHILE GALAXY, ASTROS PLAY TO SCORELESS TIE

Mississauga Eagles FC improved their chances for a playoff position with an important 2-1 victory over Windsor Stars in the CSL Saturday night and in a second game, Brantford Galaxy were held to a scoreless tie by North York Astros.

Midfielder Christian Mayorga opened the scoring for Windsor at the 11th minute mark in the game at Windsor Stadium, finding the net out of the reach of Mississauga goalkeeper James Melford Jr.

Tristan Watson tied the score for Mississauga at 24 minutes and forward Jose Melo beat Windsor goalkeeper Anthony Santilli to give the visitors the lead at the 46th minute mark, a 2-1 score that held to the final whistle.

Windsor Stars were reduced to 10 men when referee Yusri Rudolf showed a red card to Emillio Georgi following a second caution at 90 minutes.

It was Mississauga Eagles’ ninth win of the season which keeps the first year team in 7th position in the standings with 28 points.

It was a close encounter throughout at Lions Park in Brantford when North York Astros were the visitors.

There were few scoring opportunities, but two Brantford Galaxy players were ejected by referee Richard Oliveira who brought out the red card first of all for Dalibor Mitrovic who was sent off after just 15 minutes for Violent Conduct and at 80 minutes defender Zvonko Bakula was ordered off for Serious Foul Play.

Brantford had two good opportunities to score, the first when Ranko Golijanin’s penalty kick was well saved by Astros’ goalkeeper Damon Naghavi at 65 minutes and a well taken free kick by Nenad Begovic struck the post at the 75th minute mark.
